  1. So i want to start painting custom crankbaits, not really to seriously just as a hobby/ something to do when i cant fish. I dont really know much about it, but i ordered some cheap bodys to paint. I've done a little research and most people say to use an airbrush. While i would like to do this in the future, I just cant afford it right now. I've decided to use spray paint for my base colors, but i cant seem to find on any of these post what type of paint to use to paint the details with a brush. Id also appriciate any advice anyone has for me.
  2. Does anyone on here paint lures professionally for a reasonable price? Have some lures that have caught so many fish the paint is gone and I'm wanting to get them done in a way not offered by the manufacturer.
  3. I'm converting my 14ft v-hull into a bass boat of sorts...just adding a casting deck up front and a deck lower down in the rear. I'm a fairly big guy weighing in at around 275lbs and I'm usually pretty hard on my equipment, I don't want to use wood 2x4's as support and framing for this decking. I'm planning on using aluminum square tubing, however, I need to know what the minimum size square tubing I need to use that will still support my weight. If anyone knows the answer to what size aluminum tubing would replace a 2x4 whilst matching support strength, please let me know. Also, I'm wanting to repaint the boat and make it purty...what brand of paint and primer ought I to use? Lastly, what would be the recommended as the best method for attaching the framing to the hull and the decking to the framing? Thank you for any and all the advice yall give.
  4. Is there anyone in the Memphis/Southhaven greater area that does custom lure painting?
  5. Ive recently been learning to fish jigs so I picked up an assortment of strike king football and hack attack jigs to practice and perfect the art with, but i have noticed after a week or so that a few of the jigs show heavy wear on the head, chips of paint missing and big chunks of bare lead exposed. Should this be happening? I expect some wear and tear on a lure that is dragged and hopped across the bottom, but i expected a little more than a week before major chips appeared. On one of the hack attack jigs my 3rd cast with it tied on yielded a chip. Am i being to picky or paranoid? Thanks for any help/ advice!
  6. My lower unit on my Mercury outboard has that white oxidation look going on and I want to freshen it up. I've read that you should use Mercury paint but others have used Rust Oleum, so if you have re-painted yours any advice would be appreciated. Thanks,
  7. I found a pretty neat way to get a sorta chrome look for your lures and Thought I'd share. Heres a couple I did today. If you want to try this out yourself all you need is a gum wrapper like the one in the first picture. Now for the tough part; you gotta peel the foil off of the paper, the bigger the piece you can get off the better. I usually start at the corner by scratching a bit of the foil off just so I have a place to start peeling from. Then I just start sticking it on the lure until it's fully covered. Once its completely covered, to get the chrome look, I used the handle of my exacto to rub the foil smooth and then used a microfiber rag to polish it up... And thats it! Ive already painted and clearcoated over the foil and it seems pretty solid so far, but I guess time will tell if it'll hold up to some abuse lol. Anyway, merry Christmas everyone!
  8. So i got an syphon (bottle) fed airbrush. I need to know what type of paint to get.. I want to airbrush some spinner blades and since it doesnt need sealer i guess i can just airbrush onto the blades right? Does Createx Florescent wear off easily? Or have you guys heard of Netcraft water based paint? Which one seems better or lasts longer?
  9. I have been airbrushing crankbaits for a year with a cheap air brush from Harbor Freight. I am looking into getting a more up scale one now that I am more advanced in painting. I want to keep it under $100. What brand is a good one to get?
