  1. Hello, all I wanted your thoughts between these two rods. I wanted a longer rod to cushion more headshakes and fish shaking me off. I want to improve my landing ration with little paddletail swimbaits, ned rigs, dropshots and small topwaters. I have narrowed down to both of these 7'6 rods and wanted your opinions on which you think is better and why. Thank you!
  2. Hello everyone! New to the forum as a member, but been a lurker for a little while now. I am currently wanting to get some advice on what my next purchase should be. I own the Dobyn's Xtasy DRX 742SF and love it! Not one complaint about it, but I am now wanting a casting setup. I am going to be picking up another high end rod for bottom contact, and it will be paired with a Shimano Metanium DC. I am going to use it for 1/2oz to 3/4oz jigs + trailer, smaller swimbaits, T-rigs, etc. Occasionally I'll even throw the Z-Man Giant TRD with their Mag Shroomz Head that will weigh around 1oz. Jigs are definitely the main purpose, though. I am considering getting another Xtasy, the DRX 755C, or venture out and try the NRX 894C. I know the 894C is rated up to 3/4oz, but I'm discouraged to move up to the 895C, because I hear how tip heavy it is. I have also heard the 894C can handle up to 1oz lures fairly well. A Dobyn's Champion Extreme DX 744C split grip is also on the board, but I am really focusing on the Xtasy or NRX. What are the opinions out there? Has anyone tried either, or both of these specific models? If you were in my boat (pun intended), what would you do? Thanks everyone!
  3. I consistently read about the NRX 894C being tip heavy. It is also often mentioned as the gold standard for jig fishing. I have an Antares 70. Does anyone have that combo? If so, how is the balance?
  4. Would you pick one over the other? And what is the reasoning behind it? I have both of these and am not sure if I want to keep them both or get rid of one. They both are great rods, but can be used for pretty much the same applications. I love the action on the MBR since I started my high end fishing with OG Mag Bass rods, however once I moved to the NRX JWR rods I got to really to love how the road loads up. I'm just not sure I need both of these rods. Anyone in my situation? What are you using the rods for?
  5. I've been trying to avoid reviving beaten topics but I can't seem to make a decision between the 852s NRX & GLX. Granted the $80 dollar difference isn't horribly great but knowing if there's a great difference in rods is the question we all ask (Non-owners of either rod). However, just curious on your opinions (owners of the rods) is there truly that great of a difference at only an $80 jump? Lastly, I can pick up the GLX now, on sale for 250, or do I pass and get the NRX? ***Both rods are most recent versions.
  6. I just attempted to tie on my first fluro leader to braid, however when I cast or reel in, the knot is getting caught in the guides. I felt like I sinched the knot pretty good but I noticed on the NRX it has more of the smaller guides at the end of the rod. Some of the specs of the equipment I used: - Shimano Metanium MGL - G. Loomis NRX 894 - 50 lbs power pro braid - 20 lbs seagaur red label fluro the knot I used for the leader was a uni-to-uni knot thanks!
  7. Hey guys, I don’t know what it is, but I have this incessant desire to buy some high-end fishing rods. The rods I have in mind are NRX 803c JWR, NRX 854c JWR, and a GLX 843c MBR. I’m seriously on the brink of ordering all three at once. I’ve never owned a G. Loomis rod because of the high price, but always wanted one for the longest time. It’s still a high price for me today; I know it’s going to be a big hit on my wallet, but I can’t help it. Overall, I know logically that it’s a stupid decision if I bought these rods because I have more than enough gear than I need to catch bass… it’s just dumb.. but I’m sure some of you guys can empathize. I know that the new Conquest rods are out, but at $700 pop, I’d rather not, when I could get 3 high end rods that’ll cover more techniques for just a little more. The only contention I have with the NRX is.. how does hold up to the rods today? They were launched in 2010, that’s 7 years ago. I’m sure technology has improved some since that time, but I also know that graphite technology does not get as quickly outdated like reels. Technologically, for graphite to improve significantly it takes a much longer time imo than reels. So, I’m fairly confident that it will still hold it’s own today, but wanted to hear your guy’s opinion on it.
  8. With American Legacy Fishing offering 25% off G. Loomis rods the wife has given her blessing on getting one. The nicest (most expensive) rods I own are Dobyn's Champion Extreme. The extremes are really nice but from what I read they are not in the same class as the NRX. I'm looking for some advice on which rod to choose. The one that caught my eye is the NRX 895c JWR. It has a 1/4 oz - 1 oz rating so it seems like it would be the most versatile. My concern is that it's rated xtra Heavy. I'm not familiar with the G. Loomis tapers at all. The rod will primarily be used for 3/8oz jigs with trailer and light (1/4oz and under) TX rigs. Any opinions and advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
  9. Hi BR, Hope everyone is having a hell of a summer. After I Cast 2017, a big release was the Conquest rods by G loomis and Shimano. It seems they have finally woven the best of the two organizations technology and come up with CONQUEST. Any thoughts on these rods? $650 USD. WOW Tight lines -Drunkentigerrr
  10. Hello! Long time reader, first time poster. I did a search for this title and haven't exactly reached a straight answer. I want to simply know which one of these great reels is overall the better reel paired with a G. Loomis NRX 894c spooled with 20 lb. braid fishing with jigs/spinners/swimbaits/senkos/t-rigs/c-rigs/buzzbaits in the Northeast of the US. I have my bro selling me his lightly used 2011/12 Calais 201 DC for $300, and I know a new Metanium DC goes for 350-400 on the bay. So help me decide which one is the better reel out of the two. Thanks! -Will Bro
  11. Looking to upgrade a spinning rod, and I cannot decide between the GLX or NRX. I have heard that the GLX JWR were preferred by a lot of folks for spinning, and was hoping to get some feedback from you guys. I will be using it in 8-20ft of water mostly rock and some brush. 60% 1/8-1/4 shaky head, 30% light trigs, 10% mojo rigged worms. Considering 852jwr and 822syr but wide open to other suggestions. As always, any advice is greatly appreciated.
