  1. Hi I don't own a boat, so rent one every weekend. A nice 14 Jon with tolling motor for $36. Obviously there's a limit to the amount of equipment I can add to a rental (they probably wouldn't like me drilling holes ;)). I wanted a depth gauge and fish finder, then I found the Garmin throwable on Amazon. It cost me a $120 for the non GPS version, after using it once I got to say it's pretty awesome. It has a cellphone phone app and connects via Bluetooth. I used a pinch clamp and the provided lanyard it secure it to the boat. Which worked well. The a battery was down about to half after 5 hours fishing, so it should last all Day. Knowing the depth made a huge difference and set me up to catch my largest fish of the year (24" chain pickerel). The unit is supposed to be castable, I just dump it over the side. Anyway finally a sonar for non boat owners Pic are a stock photo and a screenshot of the app working on my
  2. Hey guys. I have a couple questions about the BFL. I've been fishing as a co-angler in two different circuits in American Bass Anglers tournaments for the past two years and I want to try some different waters. So I was thinking about trying the BFL as a co-angler in 2017 (potentially the Great Lakes/Wisconsin division). As far as I know, the BFL has boaters fishing against boaters and co-anglers against only other co-anglers. Is this still true? It's been incredibly difficult getting decent points in the ABA as a co-angler trying to compete against experienced boaters. I guess the question is will it be significantly different from the ABA tournaments in any way? If so, is there anything different on the co-angler side that I should be aware of? I also saw that the BFL just opened their tournament registration a few days ago. So I'm wondering if there's a need for co-anglers to register as quickly as possible, or if those slots don't fill up nearly as quickly as spots for boaters? Besides those things, I'd like to hear if anyone has any insights with the BFL that might help someone thinking about making a move to that league after the long, cold winter.
  3. I am fishing as a co-angler in tournaments coming up this season, just a local club but am pretty excited to try something Ive always wanted to do. It is my first tournament experience though… Ive read a few searched posts on coangler rods and tackle and wanted to get some thoughts on what I have in my 4 rod setup currently and what maybe I should change up or add. I am going right now with a 4 rod set-up 1 spinning rod 6’6 – with 10lb floro. For finesse, drop shot and shaky heads 1 baitcast 7:1 ,med/heavy 7’0 – 15 lb floro, has been my main go to with spinnerbaits and heavy cranks (am I too heavy on line?) 1 baitcast 6:2:1, med/heavy 6’6 – 65lb braid – was gonna use it for a bama rig, possibly heavy spinners or heavy brush jigs. I plan to start with this rig with the bama rig tied on at about 1.5-2oz. 1 baitcast med/heavy 6’6 (little more flex) – 12 lb floro I think but Im not sure what I want to put here? - this is for some cranking, suspended jerks That’s what I have right now. Am I missing anything? On the right track? Would you add a rod or change/swap a line?? This will be a tennessee river system tournament if that makes a difference! Thanks for the help and hope this helps others
