  1. Hey BR, Like the New look of Bass Resource is very nice and clean looking, thumbs up! Just uploaded a video of a recent trip to the lake where I fished the Ned Rig for Post Frontal Fall Bass. Hope your guys like it...let me know what you think! Thanks JN
  2. So I am looking for a spinning rod to use as a ned rig setup and I came across the Fenwick Silverhawk II Spinning Rods that are on sale but I am not sure if I want to buy it because close to 40% of the reviews are stating that it breaks easily, specifically the tip. I was wondering if anyone has or has had one and can certify the claim that they can break easily or not. Also are there any suggestions on any rods I should look at for fishing the Ned rig. I am looking for a medium light with a fast tip that is within 6'9" to 7'1" range. I am relatively new to the ned rig so let me know if I should be looking for something else in a spinning rod. https://www.cabelas.com/product/fishing/fishing-rods/spinning-rods/pc/104793480/c/104764680/sc/104836680/fenwick-silverhawk-ii-spinning-rods/2434191.uts?slotId=2 P.S. Budget is at $100
  3. have been reading articles regarding doifferent types of ned rig. Am wondering if anyone knows of a source for a mushroom style weight only (not a jig head) that preferably would have some type of bait keeper like a screw lock molded into the weight. This would alow me to use a ring on the bait and attach my drop shot hook to the ring while the weight keeps the head down allowing the weight to float semi-upright. I recently read an article in Bassmaster mag that showed a picture of the set-up.. Thanks for your response. Tired of using finishing nails!!!
  4. Does color or no color really matter on a jig head? I can easily get access to paint markers to use. And I'm aware that the paint will chip if used on jigs.
  5. So I’m up in Northeast Ohio while I’m home for spring break and I’m having trouble fishing some of the local ponds. Everything is just starting to thaw and the pond I fish is just about half thawed/half ice. I have to fish from the bank and I usually throw a red eye shad lipless crankbait as a search bait but it seems that even my search bait is inefficient. I was out for 2 hours today in the cold and windy snow and not even so much as a bite. I switched to using a ned rig thinking they might prefer a slower presentation but no luck. I also threw a green pumpkin chatter bait for a while and no luck. I was essentially casting to the ice then reeling in and letting my lure drop from the edge of the ice to the bottom where I expect them to be. Planning on going out later this week, can anyone offer any tactics or better lure suggestions so I can catch my first winter bass? If any of you are familiar, I’m fishing the Walter C. Best Wildlife Preserve. It’s got pretty clear water and the shore is shallow for about 5 feet and then has a steep drop off, deep enough that I can’t see the bottom.
  6. So last year, I had a lot of success with the Ned Rig. I exclusively used Z-Man baits and the finesse Shroomz jig head - 90% of the time the 1/15th weight. I did occasionally have some issues with bending/breaking hooks and with the keepers coming off, but overall found that my hookups and getting fish into my kayak were good. Seeing as it is stupid cold out and I don't ice fish, I was doing some research for the upcoming season and came across Berkley Half Head Jigs - which come in a variety of colors and the 1/16th have a size 1 hook. Anyone have any experience with these vs. the Z-man jig heads? One of the main reasons I am considering these are that a pack of 8 are generally a lower price than a pack of 5 of the finesse Shroomz... Obviously I'd love to buy some and take them out for a test run, but it doesn't seem like that's going to happen for 3 months or so! Last thing - I am located near Toronto, Ontario so ordering something specific online generally becomes too costly once factoring in shipping and I do not have any experience in making my own jig heads, nor am I looking to get into that at this time...
  7. Just saw that Z Man has come out with a new Shroomz jig head. Looks like it has a little beefier hook and a different type bait keeper than the original Shroomz. I've read some comments in other threads that some people don't like the bait keeper on the original. Any thoughts? Anybody tried em yet? http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Z_Man_Ned_Lockz_HD_Jig_Heads_5pk/descpage-ZNLHD.html
  8. I'm a power fisherman. I don't finesse fish...ever. It's just not fin to me. Until today... Our bass are in the first week of postspawn, and the bite was tough. Fished about an hour and only got bit three times, nothing consistent. So, I got in the new bag of goodies I picked up at the tackle store the other day, and had hid in my boat so no one would see this sissy stuff. I pulled out a little ultralight with four pound test line, I use to bream fish with a couple times a year, and tied on a little mushroom jig, and a TRD in peanut butter and jelly (AKA "Turd sandwich"). I proceeded to put about 20 fish in the boat over the next hour, before my dad, who was in the back of the boat, finally decided to give this newfangled bass catching machine a try. We fished another half hour, until we lost every mushroom jig I had in the boat, then we went home. There'sno need in fishing without a Ned rig. We totaled over forty, most between 14 and 16 inches, with the biggest being a hair under 20. Fun stuff on an ultralight. Fun enough that I'm fully converted! I just wish someone would have posted about the Nedrig sooner.....
  9. Anybody ever tried a YUM Warning Shot with a ZMAN ShroomZ jig for the Ned Rig? I have TRDs on order but will be out fishing already when they come in the mail. Figured a Warning Shot might work decent for now. Any thoughts or prior experience with this combo?
  10. This weekend I decided to fish a local NorCal pond that gets heavy pressure from the nearby neighborhoods. Landed 6 fish in roughly an hour, including a nice 3-lb'er. I've been fishing that pond my whole life and I've never gotten more than a bite or two. Incredible!
  11. Ive been getting skunked lately and I've been blaming it on this Florida heat. I've been using senkos, lipless cranks, t-rigs and topwater without so much as a tap. While the heat may have something to do with it, I've very recently discovered the ned rig. Why didn't I try this before? Got out and caught 3 keepers in about 1.5 hrs on my local lake! Works great for shallow and deep water and keeps very clean even without a weedguard. Just saying if you are using your normal techniques and lures and not catching its time to change it up. The ned rig will be in my tackle box from here on out. Thanks Ned!!
  12. Does anybody have experience using JJ's Magic on ElaZtech plastics, specifically Z Man T.R.D. and Zinkerz used for Ned Rigs? Are they compatible? Normally, I add 10-20 drops of JJ's to each bag of plastics so they can marinate, then I'll dip baits afterwards if need be. I would prefer to handle JJ's as little as possible on the boat, considering how it behaves in the heat. I've seen someone spill it on their carpet before, and it melted it into hard plastic. I've also seen what Zinkerz can do when they touch other plastics. Any experiences?
  13. So, I'll take the bait and try this pitiful looking setup. Does anyone have any tips as to how to fish it properly? I'll be honest, I've read a lot about it, but am a little skeptical. My friend and I are fishing a lake in CT that can be tough this time of year. We were wondering what you all thought about it to entice some slow biting fish. Thanks! ~Eddie
  14. I have been hearing alot about the ned rig lately...I am going to give it a try for myself...are there any tips for success in the neg rig!?
