  1. I found a St Croix Mojo Bass casting rod on sale for $75 so I grabbed it. It's a 7'11" heavy powered rod with a moderate fast taper. The rod is made for flipping into heavy cover but with me living in Indiana there isn't a lot of heavy cover in the ponds and lakes that I fish. I need some suggestions on what I can use it for besides flipping.
  2. Hi Everyone, I am looking at getting my first casting set up. I currently have a spinning pflueger president 6530 on a 6'6 ugly stik elite medium (super smooth and light). I am fishing 95% of the time in my pond in my backyard which is about 30 yrds x 30 yrds, so not too big. I found a great deal and bought a Diawa Tatula CT 7:3:1 for $90 so I am wanting to pair it up with a rod that will give me a variety along side my spinning set up. I want to be around the $100 range for the rod. From what I have read it seems the two main contenders in that price point are Dobyns and St. Croix. However, I hear the Dobyns runs light on power and St. Croix is heavy. I will say I ordered a Abu Garcia Blue Max (Walmart) baitcaster for around $70 and did not like the set up; I ended up returning it. It was 7' med heavy. The rod felt very heavy and stiff (not sure the model exactly). I want to avoid that. Like I said, my pond is not too big and i will most be throwing stuff up to about 3/8, maybe 3/4, doubt any 1 oz stuff. I am not a fan of the longer rods so I would stay in the 6'6 range preferably. I just want some advise on the powers and what you guys think. I want enough separation from my spinning that it doesn't feel like the same rod but also I don't want something that reminds me of that Abu Blue Max (heavy and stiff). Ultimately, would it be best to find that next level rod with the Dobyns Fury 663C (M/H), Dobyns Fury 664C (H), or the St. Croix Mojo Bass Med (since it runs heavier; the heavy may be too heavy)? Any feedback, experience, or advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, let me know if you have a Tatula and how you like it. Thanks, Adam
  3. I’m looking for a new casting rod for all around use around a 7ft MH. I was thinking about either a Dobyns Fury, a St Croix Mojo Bass, or a G Loomis E6X which I could get for around $110 with the varsity shimano program. Can anyone give me some insight to which rod performs the best? I’m open to other rods too if you have suggestions. Thanks
  4. Does anyone have the 7'4" Heavy, Fast Action, St. Croix Mojo Bass? If so, does anyone pitch with it? Wondering if it's good with braid and sensitive enough for pitching?
  5. Hey guys, I'm wanting to get a new rod. I was really hyped about getting a few mojo bass rods by St croix- but people give them so much crap on here! I have only used ugly stiks and Abu rods under $80 to success (I have used other rods which broke). My thoughts on why people bash the mojo bass rods on here is because they use really high end gear, where all I want is to upgrade from very cheap rods. Can you guys at least assure me that the mojo bass rods are better than the ugly stiks and Abu rods I've been using??? To give you an idea, the most sensitive I own is the ugly stik intercostal 6' 6" Medium 2 pc.
  6. I recently purchased a St. Croix Mojo Bass Wacky Style Rod off of ebay. The rod's tip was snapped and then repaired, but the rod lost 6 inches in the process. It is originaly 6'8, its now 6'2. I purchased it for 50$ including shipping, was this a mistake? The rod is originally an extra fast action, is it an even faster action now that it is shorter? Thanks for any advise.
  7. From the album: Fishing 2013

Caught this 7 pound 8 oz bass at my buddy's private lake. This thing gave me a ride when I caught him. It was the last day of our 3 day trip about 4:00 in the afternoon and I decided to tie on the Chartreuse Sexy Shad KVD 1.5 Square Bill by StrikeKing. Caught 3 right before I caught her, all just over a pound. I knew I had a good bait on because they were jammin that front treble every time. Kept working my way down the weed line and bam! When I set the hook I swear it was just like I had gotten stuck on a log, but I knew I hadn't because I felt the hit. She took off like a bat out of hell and I just held on for the ride. Landed her in the boat thanks to my new St Croix and Optimus XT Pinnacle reel (This was only my 3rd time using this rod and reel and first time caught my biggest fish weighing 8 or 9).
  8. From the album: Fishing 2013

Caught this beauty at my buddy's private lake. On my Scale she weighed 8lbs and 7 oz, but when I got to the taxidermist he said there is no way she is under 9 lbs. Either way she is a beauty and huge, and I am happy to say she is the first of bass I caught going on my wall. Caught using StrikeKing KVD 2.5 in DB Craw right up near the shoreline. She gave me a heck of a fight. First time using my Mojo Bass and Optimus XT and love them both. They make a Great Cranking Pair. This was on the first day of our 3 day trip. In which 3 people caught 46 fish in 3 days, including me of course.
