  1. So I picked up a dinged up but otherwise unused round Mitchell baitcaster for $15-20 at an outdoors show in the late 90's, put it away and never used it but carried it with me ever since. Came upon it the other day, cleaned it, and was wondering if it would be worth a spin. The funny thing is, I couldn't find any information about the model online. It says "AT 300" on one sideplate and references Mitchell and "Advanced Tackle Systems" on the other. I've never heard of "Advanced Tackle Systems" and was wondering if this was some collaboration promo model they did with Mitchell. I spooled it up today and it's surprisingly smooth...a little noisy on the cast, but I think this has a lot to do with the super cheap, terrible memory, super thick, 15lb WalMart Omniflex I spooled it with. Better than average distance, and very quiet, smooth retrieve. 6.1:1 "Power Retrieve" Gear Ratio, 3 Bearings, no magnetic brakes and what appears to be 4 centrifugal brakes that cannot be adjusted. Just 4 small bits of plastic that slide out on 4 metal prongs when casting. There is a "Korea" stamp on the bottom of the rod mount. Anyone have any information on this reel? Schematics, manual, dating, review, original cost, anything?
  2. Hello, new to the forum. I've found a lot of good info on here through Google so figured I should sign up for some advice. Recently I got a new spinning setup. St. Croix Triumph 6'6" 2 piece rod and a Mitchell 308 Pro. I have to say I am really liking the setup except for one major problem...getting some absolutely nasty tangles when casting. They're usually so bad I lose at least 20 yards of line each time. It's almost like a bird nest outside the reel. The only reason I can come up with is that the line is somehow getting hung up on a guide. It's almost like a bird nest outside the reel. When casting, I'll hear a clunk, the line will bunch up...yet somehow still make it through the guides. I'll reel in and have a giant clump somewhere in my line. I've inspected the rod, can't find any problems with it. On my previous reel, a Pflueger president, I'd sometime get similar tangles after over-spooling the reel. However after losing so much line on my Mitchell, it is still happening with 1/2" or more of space between the rim and line on the spool. At first I thought it had to do with line memory, so I switched from fluoro to mono, 8lb test or 10lb if it has the same diameter of 8lb. Tangles still happening. Tried Berkley Nanofil yesterday, some very low memory line. However 3rd cast with a brand new Rapala, line clumped up and lure snapped right off and flew into the middle of the lake. Later realized that top piece of rod wasn't completely lined up with guide on bottom piece of rod, so made a small twist to get it lined up better. Few casts later, whipped a Zoom fluke...felt a tiny bump when casting, no tangle. However reeled in the bait and the line just came right apart, leaving about 20 yards of line and my bait in the water. Needless so say, I'll never be touching Nanofil again. Anyone have any ideas as to why this may be happening? As I said, I've looked over the rod and can't find any issues. Can't be an issue with my casting, or at least I don't think? This is a medium power rod, and my previous rod was a Shimano MH rod, same length and never had an issue. Stumped and really bummed as I spent $90 on this rod, so really looking for any suggestions I can get as to what might be going on here.
  3. I hope ya'll don't mind a fishing novice asking questions. I used to fish with my dad constantly but i haven't touched a true rod or reel since i was a teenager. Now my dad is aging and more to the point too sick to work on his reels. I tried looking for help from the companies but i really want to learn how to fix some issues on my own. SO - my questions are: best place to start learning reel mechanics? should i send reels to manufacturer to get repaired (*is it worth it*), and how do find better ways to help my dad store his awesome fishing rods? I appreciate any help at all and please forgive a less than amateur hanging here in the forums.
  4. Is anyone familiar with Mitchell Spidercast Rods? I bought this back in the 90's. Although it's cool looking. I've never got to use it. It was always too big to bring in the cars. Here is all the information off the rod. Mitchell Spidercast Spectra Composite Super Line Series 6.5 Med Hvy Lure Wt: 1/4 - 1 1/4 OZ Line Wt: Mono 12-25lb Superline 10/50lb Model# SC66MHT Do they still sell these? If so, where? Did these ever come in 2-piece models? Thx,
  5. Hey Bass Resource, I need a little help trying to identify the part that I need replaced in my Mitchell 308xge reel. This is the reel opened up to reveal the parts which this spring attaches to in order to engage the anti-reverse. The spring attaches the anti-reverse lever to the one way clutch bearing in the reel. This is the stretched out spring that I need to replace but cannot seem to find enough information about after months of searching. This is a link to the Mitchell 308xge reel schematics: http://www.mikesreelrepair.com/schematics/albums/userpics/10001/Mitchell_300XE2C_300XGE2C_308XE2C_308XGE.pdf Any help on the subject would be much appreciated. I realize I started another topic about this but it would not let me delete the other one or even add the pictures to the post.
  6. What are your guys thoughts on the Mitchell 300 Pro Spinning Combo found at Cabela's and Gandter Mtn.?
  7. Hey bassresource community, new to the forum posting topics wise, however I have gleamed quite a bit already from different discussions viewable on these forums. I will be in the market for a couple new mid-level and in some cases low-level(St. Croix, G. Loomis, Fenwick, etc.) rod and reel set-ups for next season. I am not trying to use these rods with a particular type of bait, however, what I am looking for is overall versatilty. Since I will be waiting for the obligatory Black Friday and corresponding Cyber Monday sales, I have decided to receive invaluable input from those of you on these forums that harness much more fishing knowledge than myself. The Rods sizes and action I am leaning towards are as follows: Casting Rod 7' M F Casting Rod 7' MH XF Spinning Rod 6'6"-7'2" M F-XF Spinning Rod 7' M F Also, a baitcaster reel to go along with each casting rod and spinning reels to match with the spinning rods. These sizes and action are not written in stone, it just seems to be a decent start from what I have come to understand as versatile rod characteristics. I am open to any advice given my way on this topic. Tight Lines Guys
  8. After placing 4th in our last club tournament for the year on Lake Mitchell this weekend, I made the top 10 and am going to our club classic. I've never fished these waters this time of year, and thought the good folks on the forum could help with some info to get me pointed in the right direction on fishing these waters. Whether it's past experiences, techniques or lure selection...any info would help this 3yo tournament angler. **The lake/river and even landing will be determined the night before. These are my home waters, so I'm not going in completely blind. For what it's worth. I drop shotted (first time) 11 lbs of spots on Mitchell today to bump me from 11th to 10th...by a margin of 1.5 lbs. Today was an awesome day, since I've never fished Mitchell or thrown a drop shot....all the stars aligned!
