  1. The boat I recently purchased came with a Minn Kota Riptide Powerdrive. Not 100% sure of the year but it’s relatively new. Here’s my situation... When I’m using the remote it works as it should, but when I’m using the foot pedal the constant mode will not stay on when I have it over level 5. I’m also having trouble with the anchor mode. Anyone have any insight as to what could be causing this?
  2. I have a 2004 AutoPilot Minn Kota trolling motor with built in sonar and want to upgrade my fish finder that is currently connected to it, does anyone have information on what fish finders may be compatible and what adapters may be required? Thank you
  3. Foot pedal troller was running fine all day pulled it up to move spots and when I went to use it again I didn’t have any thrusting power. I can hear a relay clicking when I go to power it but the prop isn’t spinning. Weird thing is that I can still move the shaft side to side with the pedal. The prop spins freely by hand which leads me to believe there isn’t any line tangled in there. I’ve tried toying with the wires while it’s on auto thrust and still no luck. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
  4. How is the new Minn Kota Raptor Shallow Water Anchor any different than the Power Pole? Also, does the new Minn Kota Raptor basically deploying similarly to the Power Pole and not vertically like the Minn Kota Talons show that the Talons couldn't hold the boat as well as the horizontally styled Power Poles?
  5. I got a 16.5 side console that weighs 600 pounds, right now i'm looking at either the Power Drive or the IX3 but i want to know what people think about both trolling motors.
  6. Installed a new Ulterra iPilot Link Bluetooth on the bow of a Sylvan Pro Select V16. Downloaded the App, upgraded the software, performed sensor calibration, and sensor offset. When using spot lock, the motor will rev to full speed to port and then full speed to starboard thus overshooting the GPS location continuously. The 80#thrust will just about throw you out of the boat. The forum on In-Depth Outdoors speaks about this issue back in 2016. Supposedly, the external puck in 2017 eliminated the problem. Clearly it has not. Has anyone experienced this and found a solution? MK is standing by a software upgrade as the solution. It has been upgraded and the results remain the same. BTW the calibrations were done in varying conditions from dead calm to 25+ MPH wind. I have videos of the problem but they are too large to post. I've also seen videos of the calibration process. One used the trolling motor to perform the 2 circles while the other used the outboard. Will either one work? Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.
  7. OK - so I have an old Eagle FishEasy fish finder that was given to me years ago. The transponder is mounted on my Minn Kota Powerdrive V2 trolling motor. My son & I joke that I think the manufacturers programmed the FishEasy software to throw random fish in the scroll just so you think that's it's working (or possibly I've have had it running in demo mode for these past 10 years haha). We think that it would show fish even if I could deploy the trolling motor in the garage. We decided to pick up our game and my son bought me a Helix 7 Chirp, SI, GPS, G2N. I had heard about the i-Pilot Link and I was interested because there's nothing more aggravating than having to constantly adjust the trolling motor speed & heading to compensate for wind & contour. Unfortunately, after checking, I found that the i-Pilot Link is no longer offered for the Powerdrive V2. I understand this since the Helix & i-Pilot Link set-up would be way more expensive than the Powerdrive so they probably didn't sell very many for that model. So what do I decide to do? Look at new trolling motors. I'm really limited since I have a 12V set-up and I want to tie the Helix into the motor with the i-Pilot Link. I'm limited so much that there seems to be only one trolling motor that will fit this set-up and it is the Minn Kota Terrova. With that said, the Terrova comes with the US2 (2D sonar). I feel like I would be stupid to connect the US2 to my new Helix robbing the Helix of all of the goodies designed in and that they charged for. I also don't like the fact that the best (& really only) place to mount the HD transducer (after the $85 trade-in) is on the transom since I'm seeing where I've been not where I'm going (seems counter intuitive when fishing) but I also realize why I can't/shouldn't mount the transducer to my trolling motor. So I see the scenario where I hook up the Helix, mount the transducer to the transom, mount the receiver to my console, link it to my new Terrova via the i-Pilot Link but then I have the US2 sitting unused. Now for my question: Does anyone have a set-up where they are using the US2 from the trolling motor with a feed to a receiver at the bow but then the better fish finder mounted elsewhere with its transponder mounted to the transom or do you feel like this is an overkill? I am going to get the exact model of my Eagle FishEasy and, if I'm lucky, the US2 may feed into that receiver and I wouldn't have to drop another $199 or $299 on another fish finder just for the receiver to hook to the US2. Anyone with any thoughts about this proposed set-up? Thanks in advance.
  8. Would like to get a new boat in a few years and would like to put Minn Kota Talons on it. I watched their video and read their website and didn't see this answered so I'm hoping someone who has experience with them will know the answer to this question. I like to fish dock to dock in shallow water usually ranging from 2-4 feet. Was wondering if Talons once deployed could be brought back up (stowed) at the 1/2 way mark vs. fully stowed so that you could move down 40 feet to the next dock and then deploy them again. By only doing a 1/2 stow you'd save energy and time by not having the Talon fully stow and deploy from each fishing location. I have an Ulterra now that I love but sometimes the wind is too much which makes it hard to control your boat, hard to keep on one spot, and if it's going at the wrong angles can blow you into shore or out which makes harder, a direct in your face wind is easier but rare. Plus, you use a lot of battery power fighting the wind. So, can the Minn Kota Talons only 1/2 stow so that you can more quickly deploy them at the next spot and save battery power?
  9. Hi everyone. I just installed my Minn Kota Ultrex today and I have one major question. Where do I mount the heading sensor? The heading sensor allows the motor to do everything gps related. I just don't know where to mount it. It says in the manual that you cannot mount it near metal or magnetic object. Can you mount the sensor next to a lowrance carbon I have up on the bow? I didn't know if that would cause any interference. The spot next to the carbon on the bow would be the best spot, but I don't want the sensor to be less effective because it's next to a fish finder. Any suggestions?
  10. I can't think of anything that they will improve on shallow water anchors, but I can see some with trolling motors, specifically Minn Kotas. I believe that Motorguide already makes a wireless foot pedal but I would like to see Minn Kota do it. I like to move my Minn Kota Ulterra's foot pedal around from one side of the boat to the other depending on what side the docks or shore I am fishing are on. It's a pain with a wired foot pedal like the Ulterra has. It would be nice if the Ulterra had a wireless foot pedal with hard-wired backup. Like you could just whip out your cable and connect it to the foot pedal and trolling motor with quick detach hardware if the wireless went out for some reason or the battery died. It would also be nice if you could quickly charge the foot pedal off of the boat batteries when you plug in your boat's batteries each night. I'd also like to see a "Summon" feature on the Minn Kota. This would be similar to Tesla's summon feature. So you could launch your boat like in the Minn Kota Ulterra commercial where the guy launches his boat and then guides it to the dock with his remote. However, with the summon feature you could just walk to the dock and hit the "summon" button and rather than have to manually guide the boat to the dock with your remote the trolling motor will do all of the work for you and come right up to the dock so you can keep your hands full with your tackle and rods that you are carrying down. Sort of like when the Silver Surfer summons his board by saying, "To me my board". You also don't have to worry about coming in too fast with your trolling motor and crashing your boat into the dock. What will the next improvements to Trolling Motors and Shallow Water Anchors be?
  11. Can you add a Lowrance transducer to a Minn Kota Terrova without hindering the stow and deploy, tie straps getting in the way?
  12. Hey everyone, Last year my Fortrex was very squeaky. When the motor turns left or right is when it squeaks and its coming from the shaft. Is there somewhere I can spray some grease or put some grease because it's starting to drive me a little loopy. Any help would be great! Jeff
  13. I am getting an inflatable boat (an Intex Mariner 4 to be exact) because I need something that's portable and will fit in my car. So I was looking for a trolling motor to go with it and I happened upon these https://www.walmart.com/ip/Costway-New-55lbs-Freshwater-Transom-Mounted-Trolling-Motor-36-Shaft/161810241 and https://www.walmart.com/ip/Costway-New-46lbs-Freshwater-Transom-Mounted-Trolling-Motor-36-Shaft/140915089 According to some research the brand is Apontus. Anyone have any experience with this brand (or know who manufactures it)? Also, if you're in the Fort Worth area, would a 2 or 3 blade prop be better for the lakes around here? Thanks in advance.
  14. I am looking to purchase a Minn Kota Talon 12' to install on my 2013 Nitro Z7 with the 150HP four stroke. I do not have a jack plate installed and I plan to use the sandwich style brackets to install the Talon. I have read that installing the sandwich style brackets can void any warranty from Mercury. Is this true for the boat and motor that I have? I was unable to find anything regarding this. If this will void the warranty then what is the problem associated with installing these style brackets with this setup? I want to make sure I don't compromise the structural integrity of the transom or anything mounted to the transom. Any help or insight to this would be much appreciated! Thanks guys!
  15. I'm looking to purchase a new boat within the next month. I was looking for input on the Talon if possible. On paper, it sounds like a perfect concept. I have a feeling I won't drift and I'll get more and accurate casts into areas holding fish. The gentleman I'm buying the boat off of suggested I only buy one Talon because my boat will only be 16 feet and I live on a small lake with no heavy boat traffic. Would you guys agree? He clearly could get another $1,000 out of me by insisting I need a second, so I respect him not trying to take advantage. Is the Talon worth the hype? A big part of me can't wait to find out!
  16. Hello! I just purchased a 93 Ranger 397v fish and ski. It still has the original trolling motor, and i'd like to install the brand new 12v minn kota I bought for my old boat. The current trolling motor has a 12v/24v switch on it, and has a 4 prong plug that plugs into a bow mounted receptacle. The replacement is only 12v. I'd like to wire the new trolling motor to the ranger plug in. Boat has 2 12v deep cycle, and a separate 12v for starting. I know i could wire them parallel to put out 12v, but can I still use the plug with this setup? and is this the best way to install it? Thanks!!!
  17. "At my wits end here. It's all new- the EDGE 70 bow-mounted motor, the 2-12V batteries, connections and 60 amp breaker. All except for the 8 gauge power cable running from helm to bow. I took great care, using heavier than required wiring between batteries, and leading to the breaker. All connections clean and tight. Using a digital meter, I tested the red and black power lines, finding just 1 or 2 tenths of an ohm per wire. Voltage measured across the 2 batteries- 25.3V. Voltage measured from the bow's new* motor receptacle- 25.3V ! It's all good, right? Wrong. Tried all power settings on the foot pedal, and all operating modes. Nada! The breaker doesn't have a "TEST" button, as your home GFI outlets do. I hoped to find it needed a Reset. There's only a very small flexible part on top, which seems to be an enclosed switch or lever?, but it makes no click sound. It's taken me several months to get around to installing it. There's no returning it now. Ordered online. I refuse to suspect the motor a lemon- which I can't even think about, a true nightmare. So, other than that....... ??? The only things I know to do- connect to the batteries and breaker, minus the below-deck wiring, even tho' that wiring tested fine. Is there any fuse or not too obvious weak link I might have missed?
  18. Hey guys, I just installed two 10' minn kota talons on my Nitro and i'm fishing water with current, first thing I noticed when I deployed the talon for the first time is that when in current and hitting solid bottom it kinda scratches the bottom making those scarry noise before in get in position, is this ok? Is the talon solid enough ??? its almost impossible to get the boat not to move before deploying Let me know!
  19. I have been looking at the Minn Kota Traxxis 55# with digital maximizer and the Minn Kota Endura 55# with digital maximizer cant decide if the extra hundred is worth it on the Traxxis the only difference I can see is traxxis has the adjustable handle and quick stow feature. This is going on my canoe. Does anyone know if the power draw is different between the two or is one really more reliable than the other?
  20. Hello to all and happy holidays. I have a quick question ,Does anyone know the length of the motor housing on this ? I have a 30lb and wanted to mount the transducer for my lowrance elite 4x and it wouldn't fit ... I want to make sure it's correct before I purchase it ..thanks carl
  21. Heyo I just got a new trolling motor and have a quick question about the wires on the unit. My battery is in the rear of my boat for my lights, depth finder, and transom mounted trolling motor. My new motor is a bow mount and I have 2 choices. One: I could splice the wires and extend them to reach the rear of my boat. Two: I could move my battery up to the front of the boat and my depth finder's wires should be long enough to reach it. The choice I PREFER is to splice and extend the positive and negative wires from the unit to reach the end of my boat... The biggest reason I'm asking about this is because I was wondering if extending the positive and negative would make the unit lose power. It would be about 13-14 feet from the unit to the battery. That seems like a lot of wire for the power to travel through. Do I run the risk of under-powering the unit or any other risk that could devastate my battery or the unit by using wires that long? If you'd like to see a picture of the motor housing and the wires in question, you can go to my album "My First Boat" they're all in there.
