  1. Well, something came along that was to tough to pass up. Already have two Bonafide fishing kayaks (SS127 and SS107) decently equipped and those have been great, but wanted a boat to enjoy as well. Been a lurker here for a long time. So much content, advice, and fantastic conversation from all those dedicated to this activity can't thank the community enough. So with that...🫠 Picked up a 2018 1875 Lund Pro-V Bass. It's in fantastic condition overall, and had some reasonable goodies on it. Who knows, maybe that seller is on here and he will recognize as I describe. Picked up from a great dealer locally. Special shout out to @A-Jay, while I've been a Lund fan for a long time (father had a 16' over the years), I always liked AJ's layout and selection of the bench vs. XS and the size of the boat is just perfect for an all around experience. Regrettably, it didn't have the slide out tackle storage (I guess 2018 is when Lund started not offering it because of complaints in that solution), still has the empty space though. I'm also sure there was studies on whether XS or bench was being ordered which lead them to only offering an XS config. I prefer the bench as it'll be my wife and I 98% of the time on the water anyway. If I had to buy new, I'd not be able to do it, so this worked out great. Obligatory equipment rundown Black 1875 with bunk custom (single axle). Merc Verado 200 4STK Ultrex 80 24v. A Lowrance 3-in-1 is mounted on it tied to the bow graph. 1 bow Lowrance 9 HDS Live, 1 console Lowrance 9 HDS Live (notable the split of vendors). All networked. Oddly, NMEA 200 was left out of the boat. Likely to add so I can put the GPS puck on the back closer to transducer and get waypoint sync working (why does Lowrance not support ethernet or wireless is beyond me....) and stage me for motor integration and ghost. I'm a Lowrance guy, so I'll give the Ultrex a shot for now (getting the iPilot remote to get waypoint and trail working). I'd prefer integrated vendor, but I'd have to get a Ghost or MotorGuide. Likely a next year purchase, already have batteries purchased for a 36v down the road. ActiveTarget with single transducer on the trolling motor (Hey, why don't I ever see any stories on FFS? /s 😏) 2 x 125Ah Ionics for the trolling. < 10 cycles on them so far, so that's awesome. 1 x 100Ah Ionic for electronics, and 1 lead acid for crank/house. 17 cycles on the lithium (again, bonus). I've already removed the lead acid and wired to the lithium for house/electronic/crank combo. It's 900 CCA equivalent and Merc supports it (on the list for this motor). 4 bank Noku Gen Pro (4x10). Additions I might make over next year or so is swap the Ultrex for a 36v Ghost and put a 12" HDS Live on the bow (probably pick up a beatdown pole as well) and move the exiting 9" as a double on the console. Not sure I need the jump to HDS Pro and if the HD really buys enough for me to switch. Also want to do some rewiring of electric. While the gauge is in spec, I'd rather make it more robust and move the electronic connections using Blue Sea fuse panels at mid-ship instead. Well, that is enough for now. See some of you out there.
  2. I have a 1991 Mercury 40hp, 2 stroke, 4 cylinder that is oil injected. Runs fine. (do regular routine maintenance myself) If you have one, please tell me the good, the bad, the ugly. Please let me know what you have experienced; tips; tricks; parts; repairs; etc. Thanks-just curious and perhaps can be the start of exchanging thoughts among owners of same.
  3. I got a Mercury 225 Opti Max with a new powerhead i got 8 hours on it and the 2nd cylinder blew out of it and i just bought the boat last month from a dealer. It's been two weeks the dealer is waiting on Mercury to respond for the warranty so my question is how long in your experience with Mercury have you waited for a response?
  4. Solved my fuel related issues starts better than ever but now it seems stuck in neutral won't shift into forward or reverse. Disconnected the shift cable and can manually shifty by hand so the problem is in the throttle/shift control. Throttle cable works fine. Any suggestions are appreciated.
  5. Vessel View Mobile. $275.00. Is this new tech worth it ? I love this idea. This is a module that plugs into any Mercury outboard from 40 hp. On up. It monitors several aspects of your engines performance and sends you feedback via a smartphone app. Does anyone use this. Seems like an awesome idea.
  6. Hey guys, I've been fishing out of a kayak for too long and have an opportunity to purchase a 1994 Ranger Sport R70 with a 115hp Mercury Mariner. The boat is owned by my wife's great uncle (who I haven't met yet). He is original owner and supposedly kept it in mint condition (will know more when I go see it). He is "thinking" about selling it, so I don't know how much he wants. If this boat is in great shape, what kind of price should I be looking at? Also, I've heard not to go with a 2 stroke, which I assume the 1994 mercury is. Are there any major problem with 2 strokes I should be concerned with, or even this motor in particular? I really appreciate all the help you guys can give. Kayak fishing frustrates me and would love to get into a real boat
  7. I’ve recently purchased an Alumacraft MV 1648 SS and now I’m ready to buy the motor. I plan on getting a 30hp tiller, electric start and power tilt/trim. I have dealers that service all major brands in my area so that isn’t a factor. I’d prefer the best performing, light weight engine. The Tohatsu and Mercury 30hp are almost the same price. The Yamaha 25hp is the same price as the 30 in the others (the 30 Yamaha is too heavy and expensive). Can anyone help me find the right motor? I appreciate your help!
  8. 2009 Merc 25 HP 4-stroke What the heck is that?
  9. Just wanted to put this out there, maybe someone else has had this problem. I had my motor lockup a while back, so I took the foot off a week later and it cranked up, sent the foot to a mechanic and he stated that the inside of the foot looks brand new, so it was not the foot. Put the foot back on, and it ran! AWESOME!! Took the boat to Lake Greenwood and ran it WOT for about 5 min and it locked up again. SHOOT!! So since I couldn't go anywhere I fished for about 30 min, and tried the motor and It cranked right up, but now I have no power to get on plane, the motor would not get over 3000 rpm's. So now I took the whole boat to a mechanic and he notices a brown spot on the power head. What that is from, is water that is suppose to be cooling the engine is leaking out of the head gasket. So the reason I could not get the power to get on plain is because one of my cylinders was getting water in it and was causing the cylinder not to spark. Hopefully I caught it in time and did not ruin a cylinder. Hope this helped anyone that might be having some issues as well.
  10. Looking for any guidance on correcting a delayed throttle response on a 2001 Mercury 125HP. Motor is on a Ranger R71. Motor runs great aside from being a few seconds delayed when pressing down the throttle at the console. (Press down to full throttle...pause pause pause...motor comes to life and launches me into plane). Nothing noticeable in terms of sound from the motor. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
  11. Hey Everyone, I did a quick search for this but haven't really found an answer. I'm putting away my boat for the season and have done everything but one last step and that is to treat the motor (Optimax 115). I have changed the lower unit so my questions is strictly for what to do with fogging/oiling. I read that fogging the engine with a fogging spray can gum up things and make for issues for next years start up, I also read that putting some mercury oil in each cylinder (I read an ounce in each one) and then turning the key, with the kill switch off to coat the inside of each cylinder with oil is the best way to do things. I'm leaning more to the oil in each cylinder as the oil is designed for the motor. Thoughts or which product to use if not this method would be a great help. Jeff
  12. My lower unit on my Mercury outboard has that white oxidation look going on and I want to freshen it up. I've read that you should use Mercury paint but others have used Rust Oleum, so if you have re-painted yours any advice would be appreciated. Thanks,
  13. Headed to Mark Twain Lake today but the 2002 50hp Mercury won't start. First time it let me down in 15 years. It blow the 20 amp fuse under the bonnet as soon as you turn key to the run position and the power trim quits also. I was able t Something is shorted out but haven't found it yet. The fuse has 12 volts to one side as it should but as soon as you turn key to run position there is 12 volts on the other side with the fuse out so of course the fuse will blow. Anyone have wiring diagrams or suggestions? Thanks in advance!
  14. Hi Guys, Been lurking a really long time here on Bassresource and this is my first post! Anyhow I was hoping some of you guys may be able to help me figure out what's going on with my power tilt/trim. I believe I need to bleed the cylinders (rams) because recently it stopped staying all the way up when raised. I noticed today the hoses were leaking pretty bad on the bottom of the pump so I tightened those up and checked the oil which was pretty low. I went ahead and filled it, then cycled the system up and down several times to bleed it. This system has the reservoir inside the boat with lines to the rams. It has two rams one on each side of the outboard. It's a 35 hp I believe an '86. Please let me know if there are any details I can fill in to help find a solution.
  15. Good evening, My 2002 Mercury XR6 is sounding the overheating alarm (continuous beep) immediately after turning the key (regardless as to whether or not I crank it over). I feel this has to be a false alarm as the engine is literally at the temperature of the great outdoors (makes the sound before even being run). Tried running it for 10 minutes to see if it would quit to no avail. Any Ideas? Where on the outboard is the temperature sensor that controls this alarm? Perhaps this is just faulty? Thank you a bunch for any help in advance!
  16. Hey guys, It happend for the last couple of times i went out on the water, The boat goes well for the first few startups in the day and then as the day goes on I feel like its losing power. not like 20mph but the holshot takes a few more seconds and I loose about 8mph at WOT. Any ideas? I changed the primer bulb but did'nt help.

  18. DUMB QUESTION OF THE DAY, ok so i have never owned a "real boat" before. i have only had jon boats and kayaks, but in a trade recently i got a 15 foot sportscraft made in 1971 with a mercury 650 on it. now my question is when i look at the stern of the boat under the outboard there is two holes one on top and one on the bottom about 4 inches apart. i understand one is the ballast (i dont know which one). now the boat didnt come with a plug so i had to buy one. it only fits in the top hole. ok understandable, so the bottom must be the ballast, Right? now where i got confused is when it rained the other day and the boat filled with water it started to poor out of the bottom hole when i lifted the front of the trailer off the ground... i dont know im confused. i feel that if i put it in the water that it will fill with water and sink. please help. im a beginner.
  19. This summer I ended up having to have a new stator, and both power packs changed on my 89 v150. Befor they failed it ran 46mph at 5600rpm. Now since the repair 40mph and 5000rpm is the max it will do, plus its a bit sluggish to get on plane. Nothing has changed as to the set up on the boat. Compression is good as is the fuel and the carbs are clean. The repair shop has not impressed me, I took it back when I noticed the power loss. They supposedly checked it back out and the only suggestion they had was the plugs. They changed them at cost which wasnt bad, but it did nothing to help. I talked with them again friday and pretty much just shrugged their shoulders. I was hoping that maybe someone on here might have experienced something similar. Thanks G
  20. Mechanic can't get it right! Sad part is that I am still dishing out $$$ when the motor is still under warranty!!!! First it was a bad gas bulb, then it was bad coils and the motor was only firing on one cylinder! He moved the coils to different positions and supposedly it was corrected. It fails after it runs good for a while. While meaning first couple of runs during one outing. Mechanic says the computer says everything is fine. Know hes telling me that he thinks the coils are heating up. It kind of sucks to be taking it back and every time it seems like they are guessing. No alarms on the motor. The motor starts even when its stalling. All maintenance has been done on a timely manner. It usually starts up fine then after riding for a while the motor stalls and will only give out about 2200 RPMs. Its been to the shop 4 times for the same issue in one month!!! Its a 2009 Merc 115HP. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
