  1. Hey all first post here. I purchased a Duckett Micro Magic Pro 7' Medium MOderate cranking three weeks ago and have been using it a fair amount. While it is a great rod and I enjoy using it, I mainly throw 1/2 oz Red Eye Shads exclusively. Do you thing that the rod is too flimsy for this? Have it paired with 6.3:1 SLX XT and 15 lb abrazx. Note that I am ripping it through a fair amount of grass when fishing it. I'm wondering if I should keep it or switch to a Dobyns 705cb. Thanks
  2. I typically fish with two rods one for Texas rig the other for wacky. In the past I've always done 7 ft MH F for both but not sure what is best for my wacky set up. I do fish heavy cover, in MA and NH, every time and use green braid line. Whats the best spinning rod (length and action) and braid (lb. test and brand) for wacky rig in heavy cover?
  3. About to purchase new rod for spinning setup. It's my first over 20$ setup. I just bought a lews Tournament speed spin 300. There are major sales right now, and these are my choices. I cannot try them out in stores so am looking for some info on them; experience, flaws, overall value. -Veritas 2.0, 7ft MH-$65 (reluctant because of breaking history) -Falcon HD, 7ft M-$69.99 -H20 Express Ethos 6'10 MH-$59.99 -Shimano Clarus, 7ft MH-$49.99
  4. While I'm interested in hearing about your ideal setups, what I'm really looking for (something I can't seem to find) is some type of chart or list that details each rod with their actions, and the techniques that should be applied. Ex: Heavy Fast Rod works best for Frogging but can also be great for ______. Heavy Moderate..... ...and so forth and so on. Reason being, I have several new rods that I'd like to obviously use properly as well as assure myself that any future additions will be necessary--efficiency. ***Thanks for your input.
  5. So, I've got a few rods that I'm looking to pair with the best possible baitcaster possible (obviously subjective when discussing brands). That said, wanted to get an idea as to how I should choose the right reel to match a specific rod. Example, I have G.Loomis MBR844c Heavy Fast... how do I choose the proper reel? I assume that it can withstand a greater fight than my MBR782c Medium Fast that I paired with a Chronarch 200e7. So once again I'm trying to figure out what real peers with each specific flex from Med to Extra Heavy. Thanks!
  6. I am looking at getting a CASTING rod and reel for light baits. I want something like a medium power, fast\extra fast action. Like i said it's for light baits like finesse jigs, weightless flukes, and weightless or SLIGHTLY weighted sencos. I REALLY like the looks of the Megabass Levante series rods. The only problem is that they don't have a rod that exactly fits the bill for what I'm looking for... The "Extreme Mission Type F" seems like it would maybe work, but I wanted to hear some input from you guys. What do you think? will the Extreme Mission Type F be what i'm looking for? or is there another model in the Levante line that would work? Or should I look at other options... Thanks for your help as always!!
  7. Im looking for a medium powered cranking casting rod, preferibly between 6-7 feet with a moderate/fast action. I like rods with reel seats that have the through blank, and split grip. what are some good cranking rods like this in the 80-100$ price range?
  8. Okay, I have a gap in my rod arsenal that I'm looking to fill. I need a rod that will throw square bills and medium diving crankbaits, along with weightless plastics and topwater baits such as spooks and poppers. I'm not too concerned about price, because I'll be saving up for the rod and can make do for the time being. The new rod will be paired with a Lew's BB1 baitcaster. I am looking for a medium action rod with a faster tip so I can make casts into the tight places I get into in the kayak. For this purpose I'm leaning more towards a rod 7' or shorter. If you guys could provide suggestions as to what brands make the type of rod I'm describing I'd appreciate it. I've looked around the net and found some that interest me, but I haven't had the chance to actually handle a lot of different rods in person, so I'm hoping you guys have some hands on experience. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
  9. I'm getting into crankbait fishing and i need to know when to use a lipless crank rather than a regular crank. What time of the year is the best, what kind of conditions, where to fish, how to fish. Everything i need to know.
