  1. Heading to Western MD this weekend with the family and should have a couple hours to get some lines wet in the Yough for the first time this year. Weather doesn't look like it's going to be ideal but that's life. I'd likely be fishing near Friendsville, just wading through the river. Any tips for what the fish are doing/biting right now? A few techniques I was considering are a tube, wacky rig, swimbait, and jerkbait. Maybe t-rig a lizard or brush hog or throw the whopper plopper around. Anything you'd remove or prepare for instead? Thanks in advance!
  2. (1) Greetings BR members! I've been looking to get after some smallies this summer on the Upper Potomac. I've had success at Riverbend Park and Goose Creek in years past, but I'm looking for spots that I can reach easier by bike from Arlington. The Ohio C&O Canal Towpath would be my route of choice to get upriver, so spots on the Maryland side are preferred (not asking for your honey holes, just general locations ideal for shore/wade fishing). I'm sort of a newbie to bass casting for SM in a river, so I may need some technical guidance and info on specific areas / structure to target. Beyond weedless tubes, it would also be helpful to get some insight as to what bait/profile/size is best for this river. (2) If anyone would like to fish with me, I've been looking for a fishing buddy! Unfortunately, I don't have a boat or consistent access to a car, but I can ride my bike a good long way to reach the fishing grounds. I can also comp for gas or other expenses. PM if interested. All advice and responses are welcome. Tight Lines!
  3. Hello -- Can anyone recommend a good place to catch snakeheads in the Potomac or Maryland. My young sons who love fishing want to catch one -- it's our summer goal! We don't need big fish -- just want to land one. Many thanks.
  4. Small "team tournament" club based in Newark, DE is looking for a few new boating teams for the 2018 season. Our dues and entry fees are low ($25-$30) to keep things fun. We will not exceed 8 boats for this club (just a nice manageable number for the area). Good club for experienced and novice sticks alike. We fish Saturday's March - November (12 tournaments plus end of year "classic") at locations ranging from DE public ponds to the Upper Bay to Lake Anna (last year's end of year tournament). If you're interested, please reach out and say hello. We'd love to get a few more teams added by our first derby date(March 24th).
  5. Hello! I am new to bass fishing. I used to fish for perch and striped bass in the Chesapeake Bay until I moved to college then off to my first house. I took a long break from fishing besides the here and there fishing trips with the buds. I guess i just didn't think i had time. recently we changed our offshore fishing trip into a bass fishing trip on lake Champlain. it was amazing and now i'm hooked. I've always wanted to bass fish and i guess i just didn't know they were fish-able in MD, esp since im not in western MD. I tried to get a good all around setup for fishing by foot (A kayak is in my 5 year plan, somewhere... whenever I can convince myself to spend money on a roof rack, a kayak and all needed accessories. Hopefully sooner than later but for now we fish by foot). I got A Pflueger President XT spinning 3500 spun with 20lb power pro braid, on a 6'6" Abu Garcia Vengeance MH rod. So I found a few places to fish but I am hoping people on this forum might be able to help me find more within harford county, md. I mainly fish those river smallmouth in the susquehanna. Maybe some tips for fishing on foot at the Susquehanna near conowingo dam?. fishing the current breaks of the bank when its clear (swimbaits, crankbaits) and the mouth of tributaries when its muddy (texas rig senkos) but its hit or miss at the susquehanna at least for me. I also fish a small reservoir and have gotten one 2lb largemouth out of it (after probably 5 hour long outings.) but its slow there and very thick weeds. I have been Skunked for the past few days trying everything in my tackle box but I will keep trying. Maybe Bassresource will help improve my fishing experience. I'm loving it so far! esp when i'm catching fish.
  6. So I have the pleasure of commuting down to DC (near the Kennedy Center) everyday from Frederick, MD. Anyone have some good spots for a shoreline angler? I'm definitely interested in Snakeheads when the weather improves as well.
  7. New to the Washington DC area, college student from Fairmont WV interning in DC for the summer. Looking to do some bass fishing and was wondering if anyone was familiar with the area and would want to do some fishing. I don't have a car so would have to uber.. Should be interesting with all of my fishing gear lol. Cant go this summer without wetting a line. Let me know if you're interested in doing some largemouth or smallmouth fishing in the DC area. If you have instagram feel free to check out my fishing page @1340anglers
  8. Hey All, I moved from northern CA to the DMV about a year and a half ago. I've fished for years all over northern california, but have yet to fish on the east coast. I've got a good all-purpose smallmouth pole (the rest of my poles will be coming this summer), and I'm looking to get into some good fishing. I do not have a boat, canoe, float tube, pontoon, or any type of fishing / floating device. So I'm limited to shore fishing and/or boat/kayak rentals. I'd love any tips on spots to get into later this spring. I'd appreciate any and all responses! Thank you!!
  9. Any recommendations of lakes/ponds of public access in Maryland are are generally productive for bass fishing?
  10. I'm looking for 10 or so anglers to help start up a club based in Northeast Maryland. We would likely fish the tri-state, MD/PA/DE area. I want for this to be a mixture of beginning to moderately skilled anglers. Men and women are both welcome. The intent is for this to be highly organized, but friendly and low stress. I'm not looking for people who have been fishing tournaments all their lives. More for some people who want to have some fun, catch a few fish, and maybe win a few bucks every month. I don't want people to feel intimidated by the other anglers. I guess this is more for the people who like to fish but really don't have the time to put in to commit to a full-on club. We'll have a president, VP, treasurer, secretary, and all of the other offices, so it will be official. I'll preside over the first meeting just to get things started but we will vote on the positions at the end of that meeting. We will have bylaws, job responsibilities for the officers, but mostly just have some fun while fishing by official B.A.S.S. rules. If you are an experienced tournament angler you are still welcome. Just remember that this is for moderate to beginning anglers. We don't want any know-it-alls or Joe Fishermen who have been there and done that. If you have then great - but be respectful others who don't know the difference between Mono and Fluoro. Age is not a factor so long as you are 18 and over. I am almost 50 if, if that makes a difference towards you joining. If you are interested just respond here or private message me.
  11. I'm going to be fishing the Chesapeake Bay soon and I'm wondering the best baits for it. I'm considering a super spook if I'm closer to the shore and a swim jig if I'm just in the middle of the bay. So any recommendations for either by the shore or not by the shore? My lineup currently is: 1. Swim jig 2. Spoon lure 3. Deep diving crank bait (and if I'm by the shore I might throw a super spook at one point) So any changes I should make or recommendations at all?
  12. Hello, My name is Tim Clarke and I am posting this topic in hopes that I could join someone on their bass boat in the Northern Virginia, Maryland, and/or Washington DC areas this upcoming Summer. I don't have my own bass boat yet and usually rent jon boats at the local marinas that allow. If anyone has an open seat and wouldn't mind some company on the water, please message or email me at tsclarke30@gmail.com I'm pretty knowledgeable for a 26 year old and am eager to learn as much as possible. I'm willing to help with expense cost or any other requirements. Thanks! Tim Clarke
  13. I'll be in Maryland in june and me and my friend are going to try Largemouth Bass. The problem is i can't find any websites that tell me the bag limit. So i would like to know how big they have to be to be a keeper. Also if it varies in different regions - ill be in Carroll County Maryland.
  14. First - caution, I am new to posting on forums! Don't yet know what a Topic Tag is but I'll do my homework and find out. I'm from Waldorf, Maryland (S.E. of Wash DC) and have been fishing the "Middle Potomac" and it's creeks on the MD side since the mid 80's. I started out like many with a 14' jonboat that I added to over the years until the free-board was almost gone to the water line; then I moved up to a 88' Tracker Tournament TX that took me places a fiberglass boat wouldn't go. I had to take about a decade off due to work travel until I hit retirement, then I dusted off my rods and purchased a used Ranger DVS185 with a 150 Merc. Now I can run the "Middle" from one launch site! I make my own Spinner, Buzz, Jigs, Shakers, and soft plastic baits; had to stop the soft plastics though, the wife ran me out of the kitchen. If anyone in the So. MD area would like to join me for a day on the river let me know, I'm looking for another retiree to buddy up with. I would also like someone to show me other locations like Anna, or waters they like. Active military get a free ride. Hooked some Snakehead out there and would like to do my part to rid the river of them. Cheers,
  15. Hello, I was wondering if anybody knew of a bass or fishing club in the North Eastern area of Maryland (including Cecil & Harford County)? or If anyone was interested in forming a fishing club in the area? Thanks, Allen
  16. I have a Motor Guide Tour Series trolling motor, 98T42GAAF, 82 lbs Thrust with a slightly bent shaft. It's usable at lower speeds but gets out of control at higher speeds. Question 1: Is there any place in the Washington D.C. or So. Maryland area that does Motor Guide repair?? If so I can't find them on the net. Question 2: Is this something I can do at home; I haven't looked under the hood yet, but I am handy with tools (I used to build satellite earth terminals) Has anyone done a shaft change-out?? Suggestions?? Cheers, E
