  1. Wondering what size hooks come on the Yo-Zuri Rattl’n Vibe lipless cranks. Just got an order of the 3/8oz 2-1/8in model as well as some of the mini version. This is the first time I’ve seen one in person and the hooks seem really small. I use SK Red Eye Shad in the 1/4oz size often and I put #4 EWG short shanks on them. I also like using the #4 VMC bladed hybrid hooks on the back. Anyone have any experience trying out different sizes on these Yo-Zuri baits?
  2. Was think about what historically produces better than average quality fish and in my opinion these are the Top 3 "traditional" baits that consistently produce better than average fish during the pre spawn period. Thanks for watching!
  3. I decided to try out lipless crankbaits recently so I bought the strike king red eye shad. (2-tap version) On my first cast I caught a 2 - 3 pound bass. They seem to work really well in my pond, but I hate fishing them because I have to just burn them as fast as I can to keep them from getting snagged on the bottom. Does anybody have any recommendations for a shallow water lipless? I've been looking at the Rat-l-trap, but I don't know if it would have the same problem or not.
  4. Just caught 2 nice bass using red eye shad lipless. Actually first time I’ve had success ever with lipless. Normally I use shakey head worm or jig. Any suggestions for cold pa lake fishing in early March?
  5. So I'm a little confused. When would you use a squarebill over a lipless crankbait? I've never fished either but ordered both kinds today.
  6. Looking to see what everyone has to say about gear for lipless crankbait fishing. I've been fishing them for years and have used various rods, reels, and lines. This year I'm most likely going with a 7'2" MH Composite Crankin rod, as I had a lot of success with it last year. The difference lies in the reel. I've used 7:0:1 reels in the past, and am going to see how it works on a slower 6:4:1 reel. Does anyone have any experience throwing lipless baits on that mid-speed reel? I'll be using mostly 12lb flouro, with the exception being heavy grass. Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
  7. Hey everyone, this is my first post on this forum. I've been an avid bass angler since I was little, and just recently started going full steam again (in terms of research, time spent fishing, buying tackle, etc.)...when the weather was warmer I was going at least a couple of times a week, but the cold weather has obviously slowed some things down. That being said, I don't want to pack up for the winter either, but I do want to make the most of my time when I'm out as I'm pretty sure we all do. I've bought a bunch of lipless crankbaits lately in varying colors (shad, bream, craw, and firetiger for different conditions). I hear they are good for cold weather bass, and caught a bass the other day using one. I've also heard some good things about bladebaits for winter bass, but don't really want to invest if there isn't much of a difference between them for these conditions. I will probably buy at least one for now regardless, but just wondering people's opinions. Is one clearly better than the other, are there positive and negatives to both, or is there really no difference?
  8. Looking to try some new traps (lipless crankbaits). My personal favorite is the 1/4oz Strike King RES. I throw this probably 90% of the time. Only other trap in my box right now is the 1/4oz B.L. Rat-L-Trap, which I like when the fish want the bait fished on a steady retrieve. I like to stick with the smaller lighter baits because I fish mostly shallow, grassy waters. I've tried a few other with little to no success, but I'm looking to give some different brands a shot. So let me know what you think.
  9. Looking for a replacement to the Xcalibur One Knocker. Booyah is amazingly dumb for dropping all the good colors, and their customer service has said they are making them again, then they say they're not next time I inquire, so it's time to move on. Not paying 20 or more for these. Are there any other one knocker style lures? They consistently catch more fish over lures with multiple rattlers. Preferably up to 1oz. I use from the 25 to the 100 size for different fish.
  10. I know this is a very general question but what has been your overall most productive style of retrieve (speed, pauses, jerks, etc) with these different baits on pressured waters? 1. Spinnerbait 2. Crankbait 3. Lipless crankbait 4. Glide bait 5. Swimjig 6. Wakebait
  11. Let me start this off by letting everyone know that I fish from the bank 90% of the time so I like to pack light for fishing trips. I also just started using baitcasting gear recently so I'm building my arsenal up. Anyways, I'm picking out a new rod and reel for myself for Christmas from my wife and I need some advice. I'm looking for a rod that will be good for reaction baits. I'd say 50% of my reaction bait fishing is lipless cranks, 25% squarebills, 20% spinnerbaits, and 5% chatterbait. What power and action would you guys recommend to cover all of these bases?
  12. Discovered that DSG sells Strike King 1/2 oz lipless lures in it's "Banshee" line of Strike King made-for-DSG lures. Not every DSG in our area carries these. As a side note, I have used their "Banshee" spinnerbaits and they look pretty good; the buzzbaits are absolutely excellent on our ponds in north Georgia. Also, I've noticed that DSG has sold other house brand lures that appear to be 100% identical to the originals: the "Top Secret" line of small spinnerbaits was identical to the Booyah Pond Magic. I inspected the Banshee lipless very closely against the regular red eye shads beside them. From the oval line ties to the slightly raised gill plates, to the hooks, can't for the life of me see a difference except the package. The Banshees list price is lower (about $5) and they have a much more limited color selection - focused on the basics: red craw, sexy shad, chartreuse, and maybe a few others. Any red eye shad fans out there run a field test to compare Banshee lipless? I couldn't help but pick up a couple to do some testing for myself, but interested to hear the experiences of others.
  13. Throwing a lipless crankbait, or "trap" as we like to refer to em as, is one of my FAVORITE tehniques on grass lines, especially after a cold front and any time during the spring. I'd like to say I've mastered the technique but as we all know, there's always room for improvement and everybody has their personal secrets. Share yours below, I would love to hear your thoughts on the techniques and what y'all do to tweak it. Especially those fishing in the south and grass impoundments.
  14. Hey guys, First post btw Ok, so I only have 3 lipless crankbaits so far and I've caught a couple on each and would like to get some more, the ones I have are 2 rat-l-trap (crawfish pattern and bluegill pattern), and 1 red eye shad (sexy shad) I'm wanting to know which are better or if there are any other lipless crankbaits around that price that yall recommend so I can get a few more and in which colors. I fish a small lake/really big pond with mainly bluegill and a few craws aroynd the shallow rocks. Thanks!
  15. Hey Guys! Ive been fishing for bass fishing for almost 2 years now in some local private ponds. I've had massive success on topwater baits and worms but over the winter I had no luck at all until I tried a Rat-L Trap. I was just wondering if lipless crank baits will work all year long or if they're just a winter exclusive lure. I was also wondering what brands and models of lipless cranks you guys would recommend with sizes and colors. Thanks!
  16. I was at a pond this afternoon throwing a lipless crankbait in muddy water. Suddenly a good sized fish surfaced when trying to strike the lure but missed. I didn't get a good look at the fish but it looked dark and wide like a catfish. Do catfish eat lipless cranks? I thought they only liked stinky bait.
  17. Picked up two H20 brand squarebills and two lipless cranks today. H20 seems to be a proprietary Academy brand of lure. I have never really fished squarebills or lipless cranks much before but am going to give them a shot. Many people say they do well in the cold too.
  18. Tips on lipless' I've been using the KVD Red Eye shad in a local lake and I have caught numerous bass and even a 28 inch walleye, but every time i switch to a cotton cordell Rat-L-Trap I get no success. I need tips and techniques on how to use the Rat-L-Traps!
  19. I'm getting into crankbait fishing and i need to know when to use a lipless crank rather than a regular crank. What time of the year is the best, what kind of conditions, where to fish, how to fish. Everything i need to know.
