  1. Recently I tried Lake Trout jigging. People stated that all I needed was my bass gear and I'd be set. They were right for the rods but the reels failed me. Wherein the spinning reels worked great and had plenty of line (not a surprise as spinning reels naturally hold more line than bass baitcasting reels) the bass baitcasting reels did not. Using my Abu Garcia Revo Rockets which were spooled to the max they ran out of line at 180 feet. I'm using 30lbs. Power Pro braid and according to the chart that should be 140 yards/420 feet of line! Even if it was maxed out at 50lbs. line it should have 100 yards/300 feet of line. Here is a pic of my reel. Do Reel manufacturers lie about their reels line capacity?
  2. I'm not sure how long this line has been available, but I just recently saw it. I noticed the diameter is slightly larger than Trilene XL or Stren. If you've tried this line, what is your opinion?
  3. I'm in the market for new rods and I want to know how to test their sensitivy or if it's worth testing at all. Or is it all about the line I have on the rod? I have a St. Croix Mojo Bass at the moment and it feels good but not as sensitive as I think it should.
  4. I just bought my son a Lew's Speed Spool LFS (SS1SHA70MH) for graduation. It's rated at 120/12 line capacity. I'm new to baitcasters and am looking to get him spooled up with the best possible line. He will be doing bass fishing in fairly, sometimes pretty, heavy cover with a ton of pike around. Am I right to buy 30# braid with 12# fluoro leader? Or would 30# braid with 15# fluoro leader? Also, he will have the ability to use swimming baits as cover allows. Is 30# braid and 12# fluoro leader right for occasional swimbaits on this 120/12 reel? I'm trying to keep in mind the 120/12 line capacity but am struggling to find diameter charts for mono vs. fluoro vs. braid. I would appreciate any and all feedback! Thanks!!!
  5. I am planning on using my 6'6" Medium spinning rod and 6' ML spinning rod for more river fishing in NC in the Charlotte area. I want to spool the reels with 6 lb test but should I spool it with fluro or mono? I would consider 10 or 15 lb braid to fluro or mono but I don't know how to tie the knots and sometimes using a barrel swivel can be a pain. My goal would be to catch smallies but no idea if that's even realistic in my area so would be happy to use mostly the ML rod and catch any species I can in the rivers. Thanks for the help!
  6. I believe the line rating for my rod is somewhere between 8-18 pounds. It does not specify mono or braided. If I put 30 pound mono or braided on that rod, will it break the rod? Sorry if it’s a dumb question I am new to this. Thank you in advance.
  7. I'm pretty new to bass fishing and I have been using p-line cxx for everyday baitcasting applications but, I was wondering if there was any type of line that was in the 10-15 dollar range that was more sensitive. I feel like I might be missing some bites because I am so new and don't quite detect a bite as well from lack of time on the water and I'm hoping a more sensitive line might help.
  8. I am new to using a baitcaster and really freshwater fishing all together. I just bought an Abu Garcia silver max which says it has a mono capacity of 12 pounds. Can I put 16 pound mono on the reel without any problems? Thank you.
  9. Hi all ? Wondering what fluorocarbon you use for Spinning reel and baitcasters. I tried out several few years back for spinning and baitcasters. I liked Sunline Super FC Sniper Flourocarbon for my baitcasters. Really like how it performs! I’ve used Suffix fluorocarbon but it would tangle as season gone on. Not a big fan it’s just “decent.” whats your fluorocarbon for spinning and baitcasters!? How is the Suffix Flourocarbon Advance? Seen it was new. Thanks!
  10. Recently ordered some gear from and they included a free spool of 25lb fluoro with my order. I use 10 lb and 15 lb fluoro for most applications, with the exception of 50 lb braid for my frogging, and pitching into heavy cover. My question is what should I use the 25 lb for? Maybe a leader on my flipping/pitching set up? Seems like it’d be a bit too big for anything else. Do any of you have experience using fluoro that heavy?
  11. So I'm looking for some information on what pound test braided line I need to bend-out snagged hooks. Obviously it's going to differ for the size/gauge of the hook, plus whatever it's stuck in. And of course 100# or greater will do the job on just about any hook. I guess I'm looking for lightest braid I can use to bend-out, say, a 3/0 superline EWG hook. Whether it's stuck in submerged wood or rock (or the occasional tree ?) might be another variable...Anyone ever done any tests? Also, I carry a hand towel with me to jerk on the line directly, in such occasions, so I don't break my rod -- I'm comfortable using heavier pound test than whatever rod I'm using was designed for. Kind of makes me sick to break-off snagged lures -- not just because I want to get the lure back -- but because potentially some ex post facto fish is going to consider it to be food and give him a bad month...or several months, if it lives it that long...I just REALLY don't like leaving lures out there...
  12. What type of line and weight is best for buzzbaits on a 6:2:1 ratio reel?
  13. I've had some frustrating experiences with fluoro and am considering making the switch to copoly mostly for wacky rigging with my spinning rod on shallow waters. I'd appreciate any advice/recommendations on which line provides the most reliability when paired up with a spinning rod, as well as brand recommendations. I also believe that you (should) get what your pay for and don't mind investing in a high quality line. Additionally, please share any insights related to the role of the reel that I should take into consideration too. My current set up is a ML/EF spinning rod with an old Shimano Sienna FD 4000. Thank you.
  14. Has anyone used this line? Braid, fluro, mono, fly line, catfish line.. any of it?. I can't seem to find a distributor in the US. I would love to try the 12 carat line or the platinum line of braid.. found something on Amazon UK. That's about it. Nothing concrete locally.. https://www.climax-fishingline.de/en/products/braided-lines/ Here is their main website.. if they make fishing line anything like their cars, It would be lights out!
  15. I’m looking into getting a shimano curado DC 150. I’m not sure if I should use mono or braid?? On my first baitcaster I’m using braid and it’s all right. I will be throwing just about all kinds of baits for bass fishing. But my friend has his spooled with mono and it’s definitely different? So what are the pros and cons? What would you go with? - thanks Anthony
  16. I’m throwing the whopper plopper 90 and wondering what size line I should be using? I’m currently using 10lb power pro braid.
  17. I have recently switch to braid line I am using 10lbs line was wonder if it can break my rod?
  18. i have $200 to spend on a baitcaster. i want to know what you would suggest. i mainly throw weightless plastics. Suggestions?
  19. I bought Sunline Super Natural 16lb Line and I don't know if its the best choice for crankbaits, jerkbaits and topwaters. what do you guys suggest? for what application its good? im going to use a Rod that has "Regular" Taper.
  20. Hey guys I was wondering what the best brand of braid is. I am currently using Suffix Performance braid right now. Is there a difference in each brand and if so does it affect anything like sensitivity or strength?
  21. I usually throw my T-rig on straight 30# braid, but my areas have been getting quite a bit of pressure so I’ve decided to add a “finesse” T-rig setup to my arsenal. I have a 7’ M-F with a Daiwa Tatula 100 7.3:1. Weightless Senkos (sometimes with 1/8oz or 3/16oz bullet weight), trick and finesse worms with 1/8-1/4oz weight, and a 1/4oz craw or creature style bait. I’ve tried 15# and currently have 12# on, but should I be using something a little lighter?
  22. If you had to limit yourself to just 5 setups what would they be? Not looking for specific brands just action, reel type, line type and test. Just kinda curious as I accumulate more gear during the winter months.
  23. First of all, thank you for your replies! This is my first post on this forum. I have been using a flouro leader on the braid on my spinning reel when in clear water. I do this because it seems the thing to do. All the pros do it but they are selling line. I can't bring myself to believe that bass won't bite because they see your line. What do you think?
  24. Hey Fellas! Tell me what you guys use when your fishing with a senko-style soft plastic. What do you believe are the "Do's and Don't" when deciding what tackle and equipment? Baitcaster or spinning reel? Line? Hooks? Rod length and action? I've had great luck using a lew's speed spool baitcaster with 12 lb floro. I also use a 3/0 EWG red hook on a Carolina Rig. Always looking to try new things!
  25. Hey guys! I’m thinking of buying some line too spool my ecooda black hawk, and I was wondering what type of line will help my lure drop deeper/faster with that good shimmer you normally get while it descends. Thank you!
