  1. As my rod and reel arsenal grows, I’ve been looking into some specific rods for a few of my techniques. One will be strictly a lipless crankbait rod. Looking for something around 7’3”. Nothing shorter than 7’. I mostly throw 1/4oz SK RES, but I also use 1/2oz on occasion. I also like the original trap when they like a fast paced, steady retrieve and I only use the 1/2oz. I would prefer a medium heavy action bc I like the backbone for fishing grass and submerged cover, so a 1/4oz-3/4oz or 1/4oz-1oz rating seems about right. Either a moderate or moderate fast action. Just a little bit of give in the tip to avoid pulling hooks. My main concern is the weight of the rod. I’m normally making super long casts and burning it back trying to find fish and usually once I find them I just keep throwing it bc I have so much confidence in it. Needless to say, I’m looking for the lightest rod I can get away with. Thanks in advance for any opinions. Looking forward to seeing some of y’all’s recommendations.
  2. Hello everybody. I'm new here, so first, thank you for accepting me into these forums. Im in need of some help/opinions. I'm hosting a bass competition and am looking for a way to score the fish with a combination of length and weight since it won't be a tournament style total of five. You enter a single fish. I'm not sure if I'm explaining that we'll enough or not. If anybody has any ideas please let me know.
  3. i just bought a g loomis imx from cabelas for 189 cause it was on sale, i needed a rod to pair up with my stradic ci4 plus, i needed a rod that was going to be really sensitive and lightweight. i preferably wanted a medium light action but i went and bought the imx that is a 6'6 medium rated 1/8-3/8. my question is, is this going to be long enough to throw a drop shot and shakey head? i just dont want to waste my time with it if its not worth using as a drop shot rod! PLEASE HELP!
  4. Alright, I would like you guys' opinions on this. So this body of water/most bodies of water in my area are 17' or less boats. I don't think they actually measure your boat before coming into our launch. We are buying a boat off a guy, and we are pretty sure it is 17 1/2ft long. Do you feel this will pose a problem for us and that we won't be allowed to fish here, or do you think no one will say anything. In my opinion what is the extra half a foot hurting, like really? Thanks, Zach
  5. Why are there limits on rod lengths in tournaments? I've been wondering about this for a while, never understood it. I was going to buy a 9'6" float n fly rod, but I guess I'll have to go with an 8'.
  6. Hello, I am really concerned right now about the length of a boat we are getting. For you guys in PA, do our registrations round the length of the boat, like say its 17 1/2 ft. will it appear as 17'? Or is it still considered a 17' boat anyways not 17 1/2? Thanks, Zach
  7. Ok guys, I am new here and fairly new to fishing, but I LOVE it. I have traded a decade long drug habit for a NASTY fishing habit..... LOL... Which is a good thing, So my question is, I am looking to get a new crankbait rod. I will probably be getting a Abu Garcia Veritas rod. I need help with getting the right rod. It will be my only crankbait rod for awhile so I want it to be versitile as far as what type of crankbaits it will handle. I need help with the length selection and action selection. Also, any input on what other applications I may be able to use this rod for as well. Thanks for any and all replies in advance.
  8. Hello there fellow bass anglers. I have been saving up some of my money so I can buy a new rod at my town's Walmart, and I was wondering if the length of the rod could affect the number of good hooksets, or the number of fish hooked in general. The reel I have is a Bass Pro Shops Mega-cast (Spinning), and I've had it for 2 years, and use 12lbs mono-filament line on it. I'm thinking about getting a Shakespeare Ugly Stik, 7'0" medium action spinning rod. I'm only 5'5 but I'm not sure that that matters or not. I keep loosing fish due to late hook sets with my Daiwa Millionaire Classic casting rod, which is 6'0" in length. That too is a medium action rod. Will this longer, newer rod help me to hook more fish, or is it a matter of improving my reaction time? If possible, respond as soon as you can because I'm buying it either tomorrow night or Friday. Thanks.
  9. Could I use an old 7' jig/worm rrod?
