  1. Hello All, I've recently joined the Forum after regularly reading up on the many questions others have had about the sport for about a year. Im still a novice when it comes to bass fishing, I started August of 2019, and I'd love to get more involved with this wonderful community. Very soon here I am going to buy a Fishing Kayak (waiting for the one I want to be in-stock) which should open up many new ponds and small lakes to try out here in Cali. Most of these ponds and small lakes are off the beaten path and almost impossible to fish from the bank, only accessible by kayak, but im able to scout the terrain and get a basic idea of the what waterbodies layout is. I am in love with hooking into big fish and I was wondering what the tell tale signs are for a waterbody to have big largemouth bass? So far I suspect deep water to be essential as well as water with decent water clarity, but im not entirely sure. What type of cover or structure should I keep an eye out for when I scout these waterbodies by foot? I can count all the 4lb+ bass ive ever caught on basically 2 hands so my experince with big fish is fairly limited. I have some general ideas of what to lookout for but I'd love to hear from you experienced guys out there. So far the Two water bodies I've scouted have a ton of standing timbre or have their banks covered with water primrose, water visibility both have about 2ft or so. Seen baitfish creating small wakes on waters surface and saw many old bluegill spawning beds so atleast there are fish hahaha. Any tips on finding some Hawgs? Thanks!
  2. Hey all. I’ve been fishing for some time now with my Jon boat and a trailer. I’m getting sick of having to have a designated spot just to fish because of the bigger boat and the trailer process. I want to invest in a good fishing kayak. I’ve fished on a kayak before and I really like how easy it was to move around. So my question is what’s the best all around fishing kayak under $1,000? If possible to get some loaded ones like ones with included rod holders or track systems. I’m not too knowledgeable about how to add accessories and such. What kayak would you recommend? Also I heard many pros about adding a trolling motor to your kayak and many cons to it as well. What are y’all suggestions? Hoping to get more of lighter weight one! Thanks for taking the time to answer!
  3. I had this week off from work and my wife couldn’t get the time off which went plenty of time for fishing. I usually only get out on the weekends so I was looked forward to fishing every day for a week. But by Tuesday, I realized it was going to be a tough week. The bass just weren’t biting. I caught a few here and there each day but it was pretty slow. I know this can be a tough time of year, but I made up my mind to keep going out each day and take advantage of the time on the water. Once I figured out I wasn’t going to get bites on my go to baits, I went through my gear and pulled out all the stuff I had but didn’t use and tried something new each day. The chatter bait I used once and “didn’t feel comfortable”? I used it until I got the hang of it and caught a couple fish with it. The Tokyo rig I bought and never used? Tried it and really liked it. (Tokyo rig is awesome if you’ve never tried it) I got a new kayak this year that I can stand in so I spent the week fishing standing up and feel like I really got my “sea legs” under me. I flipped and pitched the lily pads. I worked on walking the dog with a hollow body frog until it was second nature. I feel like while I may not have caught a ton of fish this week, my fishing got stronger. I’m feel more comfortable using different techniques. I guess if the bass had been biting on the wacky rig or the crank bait I may not have gotten so much out of this week. It’s true what people say on here, it’s about time on the water. (Reading Bass Resource helps too.)
  4. What is yall choise on a casting rod length and action bass fishing for 5 pound plus bass out of a kayak?
  5. So recently been looking into getting some type of boat, kayak, Jon boat etc. to go fishing out of. It will be my first purchase and having concerns about my size and stability in them. I’m 6 foot 4 and weigh about 340. Been fishing for about 2 years now and just want something to get into the water with. I have no interest fishing salt water so it’s mainly rivers and lakes I will be. Any help will be appreciated
  6. Hey there guys, I joined back in 2015 but never introduced myself or even replied to any posts. I am a fisherman out of the Richmond, Va area. I focus on fishing for bass and for every species on the James river. I have been fishing since I was very young, mostly surf fishing in the outer banks and Carolina beaches for red drum, flounder, etc... Moved to Florida when I was a teenager and we had a great pond in our neighborhood that got me into bass fishing. I can recall fishing there daily with worms, lizards, pretty much anything that was included in the box of artificals. We pulled out some great bass from there and some huge catfish as well. Moved back to NC and did some brackish water fishing with bait for awhile. Then finally, I moved to Richmond at the age of 20. I started fishing again around age 21 and have been hooked since. Get it? Anyway I love this forum and will try and post some pictures of some great catches and info I have acquired by fishing around the Richmond area. I also do a lot of Kayak fishing. I hope this post reaches the Virginia forums, and if anyone ever wants to do some urban angling message me!
  7. Hey guys, this year I've really got into bass fishing pretty heavily. I was debating on my first purchase between a kayak or jon boat. I chose JB because I figured the more people the merrier. Lately I've realized how much the JB limits me in certain conditions so I'm looking to make a big kayak purchase soon. Before you ask yes I've fished out of a kayak and I believe i know what to look for in a kayak for me. Yet I'm stuck at crossroads between two kayaks. The Jackson Big Rig and The Wilderness ATAK 120. If anyone has knowledge about either I'm open to the good and bad especially since they both aren't cheap kayaks to me. For me fishing in smaller lakes, ponds, and rivers i see the 12' ATAK better puttied but i do not want to just give up on the big rig after all it is just 1' foot bigger and wider! Anyways thanks for any advice and info on these kayaks! Again open to both good things and bad things!
  8. http://cteco.uconn.edu/map_catalog/maps/lake/bathymetry/Bathymetry_With_Aerial_Tyler_Lake.pdf Hi, I was wondering if anybody could give me some advice on fishing this lake (copy URL above into browser for lake map) in the summer? I've tried many tactics, but they all seem to fail miserably. I am Kayak fishing so any location is accessible. Help would be MUCH appreciated
