  1. I am 16 years old and have a 14’ jon boat with a 9.9hp. I am obsessed with bass fishing and taking my boat out whenever I can. I have gotten to know Fountainhead, Bull Run, and the Occoquan river with consistent luck, pretty much going every weekend that I can. I have done some club tournaments in the past but looking for something with smaller entry fee’s. A smaller club tournament where I could either use my jon boat or fishing as a co angler. Again looking for a tournament with small entry fees in the Northern Va area or within 45 minutes of Fairfax Virginia. Thanks, James P
  2. Need some help on what a realistic price would be to convert a 1448 or 1542 Jon boat into a bass boat. I plan on fishing local lakes and ponds nothing too big I live in central mass. Will probably use it 2-3 times a week during spring-fall, fishing 10+ hr days 1 out of the 1-3 days on the water. Usually fishing with one other person. I have never owned a boat before so just trying to get some advice. Looking for suggestions on budget/quality friendly equipment for the following equipment. I appreciate the help! Looking to build casting deck on bow with pedal tray and storage bins. Going to cover boat with marine carpet. most likely Using plywood for the deck, I’ve heard aluminum is very expensive. Would it be worth going with the aluminum over wood? trolling motor- whats the best brand? I’d like more than 45 pound thrust. 55+. What’s a realistic budget? $750 and under? battery- Does a bigger battery help the trolling motor last longer on the water? I’ve seen mobile battery charging docks on YouTube. Does anyone have experience with this? How many batts would I need for all the equipment I plan on installing? How much do batteries run? Best brand? Save to budget $200? Fish Finder/GPS- hummingbird?garmin? Lowrance? Best brand? Would $300 get a decent setup? outboard engine- these size boats are rated for a max of 25hp. Is 9.9 a good spot to be? More/ less? How big a gas tank would I need? Merc is what I’d be looking at, but I’d be open for other brands. I appreciate the help! cheers, Nick
  3. I have a plastic boat that has a fairly small hole in the hull. I’ve heard that epoxy is a good idea with plastic kayaks but on the boat, I only have access to one side of the hole. I can see the hole from the outside, but on the inside of the boat there’s an extra plastic mold that completely blocks you from seeing the hole. Is an epoxy still possible if I can’t get to both sides? If it’s not, what are my best options here? Any advice would be helpful.
  4. I had just recently obtained a Jon Boat which I believe to be 10 ft. It seems pretty old. I am trying to figure out the model of it, but all of it is pretty worn. It did have a serial number of 00410. Here is a picture of it. If anyone has any clue as to what model it is I would appreciate it. Ill try to attach a picture of the serial number as well.
  5. So recently been looking into getting some type of boat, kayak, Jon boat etc. to go fishing out of. It will be my first purchase and having concerns about my size and stability in them. I’m 6 foot 4 and weigh about 340. Been fishing for about 2 years now and just want something to get into the water with. I have no interest fishing salt water so it’s mainly rivers and lakes I will be. Any help will be appreciated
  6. Whats up guys! New to this forum and new to my boat but definitely not new to fishing. Excited where this is going to go and ready to get it on the water. watch for this whole build process. maybe the rain will hold up and I can start this week.
  7. Hello. Today I purchased a 10 foot Jon Boat for 75$. It came with a Minn Kota Endura 36 trolling motor and a 10-15 pound anchor. I have several questions. 1. will 36 pounds be enough to propel this boat(converted into a bass boat) and me (I weigh 140 pounds)? 2. Will a transom mount work on a level deck, if so how? 3. Is the anchor enough weight for small current? 4. Front or back for motor? THANKS A LOT!
  8. Hey I posted about a week ago that I was looking for a bass tournament series/league that will allow a Jon boat in it *note, it is not a little dinky one it's a 1448 with a 15hp, carpeted, electronics, trolling motor etc.* anyways, I went to classic bass and looked at tournaments in my area (St.Cloud MN) and at first found one that seemed perfect called the amateur bass series, the lakes they fished were very familiar, it seemed pretty laid back and nice. I then found out your boat must be 16' or longer I was pretty bummed out but I was still pretty determined to find one, I then found Minnbass which seemed very good, no minimum length and again seemed pretty laid back but then I saw how much it costs and for a high school kid that has to pay gas and buy gear it would neve be doable and that was the only other series that was in lakes under a hour away. moral of this post is that I wondering is there any tournament series near st.cloud that doesn't have a minimum length and also not break the bank. Thanks.
  9. Hello I'm looking for a smaller but yet competitive fishing series/league and the catch is I need to be able to do it in a 14' Jon boat with a 15hp merc. I'm just looking for a little competive fun getting a little tired of just regular fishing thanks I'm located in St.cloud mn so if that helps
  10. Hey Guys, I have an all electric 16' fiber glass jon boat that i bought used a little over 6 months ago. (The reservoirs i fish at are electric only) Its been a long journey getting it water ready but, it finally floats. I'm looking into getting it wired properly (I have minimal experience). I'd love to hear your advice on which products to buy as well as, installation how to's. an affordable led lighting system, for those early mornings. A switch panel to cut on and off my led's, my bilge pump, and if possible; cut on and off my 2 transom mounted 55# electric motors. I wont need to adjust the speed on them, i only use them for "speed". Alright, Whatcha got for me?
  11. Hey guys I've recently been asking about tournaments in a Jon boat and you all said I'd probably be fine if I were to just make a cooler livewell my next question is how many quarts do you think I will need to hold about 5 fish? Thabks
