  2. Hello, I was simply curious about the specific differences between these two P5 rods. I'm trying to decide between the two as my jig and Texas-rigged soft plastics. For anyone who has it, what would you say is the ACTUAL lure weight range in which each of these rods excels (if you could please say the total weight, i.e., jig + trailer, etc...). I am also planning to purchase a P5 Bait Finesse and a P5 Windbuster, so the baits that this can cover may also have to be taken into account. I plan on using the BF for all around finesse plastics and finesse jigs, the WB for drop-shot/free rig/small jerks and small cranks/light topwater, and the TS or X-Bites for jigs/Texas-rig soft plastics. I will say that I plan on fishing cover, shallow water, docks (skipping*** and pitching***). Lastly, I do everything other than punching, throwing large swimbaits or glide baits, and heavy top-water (mainly finesse plastics, fb/compact/finesse jigs and other bottom-contact like drop-shot and T-rig). Will these 3 rods cover all those techniques? Thank you in advance, I apologize for asking so many questions. I tried to be as concise as possible, but I have been looking for answers to these questions without much success.
  3. Hey everyone! I have a strange jig here.. I was wondering if anyone knew what kind of jig it is? The head looks almost like a swimjig but with that the jig does not have an eye to tie to. The line feeds thru the jig head and out the bottom of it. What kind of knot would you use or would you put like a swivel at the bottom to prevent the knot from coming thru the hole? Anyways thanks for any help you are able to offer..
  4. This topic has probably been created a million times already, sorry. I have a couple new Buckeye G-man ballin' out finesse jigs that have a 4/0 hook and I've started to think about trailers for them. I have been using regular rage menace grubs with about 3/4" cut off but I'm wondering if there is a better option that I don't have to modify and has a little more subtle action. I'm looking for a small thin profile about 3" long. Suggestions?
  5. What are you guys favorite casting jigs the Bico jigs look really sweet but I’m just getting into jig fishing and looking for some options ?
  6. Hi fellow anglers I’m a banker slowly transitioning into getting more rods and getting into tourneys and one of the rods I’m lacking is a good dock flipping and or football jig rod I’ve been looking at a 744c champion but saw the 766 Fr on sale for 130$ witch is a heck of a discount due to being a bank fisherman I usually throw baits that don’t cover a ton of water but are high percentage when in front of fish like a shakeyhead jerkbait Texas rig but I’m looking for a designated jig rod I have been using a 733 as a jig spinner bait chatterbait swim jig rod but feel it’s a bit underpowered for football jigs flipping jigs and Carolina rigs the thing that scares me is getting a dc for 130$ does anyone own a dc 766fr or should I just spend the extra 100$ and go with a 744 jig special or a kayden 765 or 744 im kinda on the fence I have a few furies for moving baits and love them but like to go kayden and up with baits that rely on sensitivity hope to get some feedback thanks guys
  7. Last year I got into jig fishing and this led me down the path of matching certain jigs with the right trailers. Now, before you @ me, I know that it matters a lot more to me than to the fish, and that you can pretty much get bit on any jig and trailer combination. This is about the aesthetic, as the Instagram crowd would say. Here are some I've found that go great together. PB&J Dirty Jigs Finesse Jig and a Cinnamon Black and Purple Flake (221) Yamamoto 4" Double Tail Grub Watermelon Pumpkin Craw Bass Patrol Silicone Football Jig and a Hard Candy Strike King Rage Chunk And my absolute favorite, the Green Pumpkin Craw Bass Patrol and a Falcon Lake Craw Range Chunk. Green on top, red bottom. On these last two the light from my desk lamp does not do them justice. In direct sunlight they look a lot better. And compressing the file down to a sub 350kb JPEG didn't do wonders for that first one either. So, what do you got? What combinations have you found that just... Click?
  8. Last spring, I watched a young boy and his dad fishing for crappie. The crappie were ganged up around a big fallen tree, in shallow water. The kid had a cane pole and live minnows. Every time he dropped a minnow near this tree, he would pull out a crappie. His dad helped him re bait, and he'd do it again. The kid was having a blast. I often target crappie at ice out. We use light action spinning rods and jigs. Tube jigs have been a great producer for us. We usually jig vertically right near the canoe. I've realized that I've caught many over the years by dropping the jig down, and holding it motionless. As the water warms, the crappie move more shallow. I like to use a weighted float made by Comal Tackle which has a pear shape, and helps with casting distance. Slowly reel this rig in. It's caught scores of crappie for us over the years. The Charlie Brewer Weedless Crappie Slider is another good one. For these, I like a rod with a little more backbone. You can throw these over all sorts of cover. 4 or 6 lb mono lines are all I've ever used. Color combos with chartreuse have always been good. Crappie can be finicky, and it pays to carry a few different styles of jigs. Tubes, grubs, and small minnow styles can all work good, and I've found that throwing a changeup bait will often catch a few more. I'm my state of Missouri, when the crappies move into shallow water, everybody goes crappie fishing. The shorelines are lined with folks of all ages, with minnow buckets everywhere. It's a good time to be a fisherman. What are your rigs for spring time crappie?
  9. Anyone ever use Ned baits as trailers on finesse jigs?
  10. Haven't really fished many jigs since I started bass fishing, but again I'm looking to expand my techniques. Picked up some 1/4oz SK Bitsy Flip jigs today after work. I bank fish and the ponds/lagoons I fish are very shallow, especially around the lilies and grass I've been catching fish on lately, so I wanted something light that would sink a little slower. I'm just looking to see what trailers y'all recommend for a small jig like the Bitsy Bug. Black and blue has been the hot color where I fish, so I got the black and blue jig and some matching black and blue Zoom Lil' Critter Craws. Any other plastics y'all think I should try?
  11. Hey everyone. I am wondering what model NRX I should buy for Keitech Tungsten football finesse jigs. I had a shimano poison adrena 7’3 MH Fast and loved it, I am wondering if anyone could recommend which NRX model would be similar to the action of that rod? Thanks in advance.
  12. Hi, all. New to the forum, very sorry if this has been answered already but I can't seem to find a solid answer anywhere. I'm trying to decide between the Dobyns Champion XP 683 or 684 as my kind of all-around casting rod. I'll be primarily throwing smaller topwaters like 1/2oz walking baits, 75 and 90 ploppers, 3/8oz-1/2oz jigs, and 3/8oz spinnerbaits. I also fish primarily on small river systems on my kayak up here in MN, so I wanted to stick with a slightly shorter rod so I can cast a little more accurately in tight spaces. I've come across a lot of forums that say the power on Dobyns rods are actually one step less than they're advertised. I have a 1oz Chug'n Spook and a 110 Plopper that both weigh 1oz, so I was curious for you guys that are seasoned Dobyns owners if the 683 would handle these slightly heavier lures just fine (the 683 has a lure weight of 1/4oz-3/4oz), or if I should move up to a 684 (1/4oz-1oz). My only concern is with the 683 is that if it really fishes more like a medium, that I can't rip my jigs and spinnerbaits out of the weeds as easily as I probably could with the 684, but with the 684 I'm more or less concerned the tip isn't as soft as the 683's that when I get a bite on a topwater those treble hooks don't get ripped right outta their mouths. Any thoughts and advice would be very much appreciated! Thanks, everyone!
  13. Looking at possibly picking up my first Expride tomorrow on Black Friday. Something for 1/4 oz and 3/8 oz jigs, maybe 1/2 every once in a while, but I'm not worried about that. I was looking at the 7'2 MH because I feel like for most companies that would be the right pick, but the Expride's lure rating is 3/8-1 oz. Where as I feel like most MHs are 1/4-3/4 or 1. Would the Expride be too overpowered for 1/4 oz jigs? I fish around a lot of grass so I feel any extra power wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
  14. Hey, anybody have an idea on where I can purchase UNPAINTED BASS JIG HEADS AT WHOLESALE (football/flipping/Pitching/Finesse/Swim) unpainted and without a weed guard? I don't want to deal with the lead and pouring into molds anymore.
  15. What is best steelhead and brown trout jig under a float also what is best trout worms is wacky rigging them the best like with senkos i fish irondequoit creek
  16. Does anybody know the name of the old copper skirt color used on the rattlin booza bug?
  17. Was think about what historically produces better than average quality fish and in my opinion these are the Top 3 "traditional" baits that consistently produce better than average fish during the pre spawn period. Thanks for watching!
  18. I want to start hand tying jigs, buzzbaits, and spinnerbaits but I am not sure what lb braid to use to do so. Most of the jigs are about 1/4 oz - 3/4 oz, buzzbaits and spinnerbaits around 1/4 oz - 1/2 oz, but the most common weight for all being 3/8 oz.
  19. I just got some tackle in the mail that I'd forgotten I ever ordered - it had some Megabass Dark Sleepers and frogs that were backordered at the time (probably the Dark Sleepers are what held it up 4 months). At any rate, this little jig, and I mean little jig, is what I'd like some advice on. This particular one is 1/8 oz and the hook is probably like a 2 (not 2/0, that's a nickle beside it for comparison sake). It has the vertical line tie about perpendicular to the long axis of the hook. So it's similar dimension-wise to a SK Bitsy Bug as I remember, but it's been a while since I tried one of those. I'm going to be on a shallow river (South fork of the Shenandoah) this Saturday and wanted to try this bait out. Here are the things I'm considering: 1. Should I glue in the brushguard? As I remember, I got plenty of bites on the Bitsy Bug, but didn't my hookup ratio was so bad that I quit using it after a couple of hours. Looking back, the brushguard might have been the problem. By another token, the brushguard might keep this thing from getting snagged every cast. I do a lot of what I call 'drift casting' along the riffles that I fish this time of year, and the current has a way of sticking your baits/hooks into any conceivable crevice, stick, or piece of vegetation. 2. Should I use a trailer? I also remember using a small grub on the back of the Bitsy Bug, and considered that might be my problem for the hookup. When I took off the grub, the bite died off, which may have been the time of day or the part of the river I was fishing. I stuck the grub back on and fished it for a while, but don't remember the bite returning, and I think I just put that bait down and went back to a Senko (my go-to at that time). I'm wondering whether a jig like this will even work without a trailer. I've only used hair jigs without something as a trailer. Thanks for any suggestions you have, especially if you've used this particular bait.
  20. Hey BR, Attached is video of my “simple” or short list of top performing swim jig trailers for all seasons and imitating all prey items. Thanks JN
  21. Hello everyone! I am trying to find a good Texas Rig/jig rod for under $100. Also, I would maybe buy a reel if it convinces me (also under $100). I would use it for open water casting, dragging football jigs, and other basic jig and Texas rig applications (no flipping and pitching). Thanks for the suggestions!
  22. Hello yall, Just a very simple question about this (match made in heaven) paired jig with its trailer... Should I move the craw trailer a bit more up? Thanks in advance, Martin Sierra If anyone is wondering, its a 1/4oz Stanley Finesse Jig in Watermelon Orange color, paired with a 3in Strike King Baby Rage Craw in Bama Bass color.
  23. Looking for a good pitching and flipping baitcasting rod and reel for jigs for bass. Around $150.00 do yall have any suggestions anything would be much appreciated, thanks.

Thank you Edit-As stated below the reel with likely be a tatula 100 but I’m still open to suggestions thank you guys for helping.
