  1. Hey everyone! I have a strange jig here.. I was wondering if anyone knew what kind of jig it is? The head looks almost like a swimjig but with that the jig does not have an eye to tie to. The line feeds thru the jig head and out the bottom of it. What kind of knot would you use or would you put like a swivel at the bottom to prevent the knot from coming thru the hole? Anyways thanks for any help you are able to offer..
  2. Coming from a trout background using flies and inline spinners I've never had use for terminal loop knots. Now that I'm learning to fish for bass and crappie I do. (Admittedly there is a loop not used for dry flies but I never learned it or used it.) Are there more than one of these loop knots? Are any of them more reliable than others? I look forward to your replies and learning how to tie a loop knot.
  3. Hi guys, my curado 200i just broke so I'm in need for a new reel. So far, I have a: topwater/jerkbait/weightless plastic rod (6'8 M/F St-croix bassX) paired with a daiwa tatula 100 frog/punching/swimbait rod (7'10 H/F St-croix bassX) paired with a daiwa tatula 200 and my jig/chatterbait/texas rig (7'1 MH/F st-croix mojobass) which used to be paired with a curado 200i I already looked up on Daiwa website and the Elite, Elite P/F, Tatula 150 as well as their tatula sv tws all look interesting but can't figure out which one would be more appropriate for the use. I really like Daiwa's breaking system but I'm still open to suggestions.
  4. Had an awesome day out on the water today! Scored myself 40 fish with a 5lb 5oz kicker to top it all off. She didn't appear to be full of eggs so I'm thinking maybe postspawn? Caught her on a Jig in a submerged tree in about 10 - 15ft of water. Very pretty fish, gave me a short workout ?.
  5. Hi! I'm just going to be as straight forward as possible: What is your opinion on the best 200 or less, VERSITLE, worm and jig rod? Or a rod over 200 that can be had for 200 or less, for example on TW's Black Friday sale is 20% off. Thanks for any input and tight lines! Harrison
  6. I need help understanding how to effectively fish a jig (especially around docks)! My favorite way to fish is by fishing docks. Whether that’s skipping a senko or tossing a top water on the sides. I’ve been told that using jigs around docks are extremely deadly but don’t understand the concept. When tossing a jig under dock do you let it sink to the bottom and hop it or can you keep the jig suspended and work in the middle of the water column back to you. How do you guys fish jigs around docks? Thanks ?
  7. Guys I’ve been looking hard for the past few weeks trying to find an upgrade to my E6X WUR 901-2S. I mainly twitch 3/8 jigs and spoons for coho and steelhead. The E6X has handled some big steelhead surprising well but now I’m ready to upgrade. My issue is I need a 2 peace due to packing it around from spot to spot bush wacking. What are your thoughts on the IMX 9000 2S Hot Shot, is it enough of a upgrade to make a noticeable difference. Or can you think of a better high end 2 peace ?
  8. So I’m in the Midwest and I’m looking for a decent jig rod for about $100. I want it to be a medium heavy and I’ve been looking at the St. Croix Bass X but the 7’2” comes in a moderate action. Not sure if that will be good enough for jigs or if there are other options I should explore.
  9. Ok so I currently own a GLoomis E6X and I’m looking to upgrade to a high end or next level up Loomis and pairing it with a nice spinning reel. I mainly want a use this rod for twitching jigs for Coho usually 3/8 size or less. The rd needs to be a 2 peace because I tend to bush wack a lot. My local fishing store suggested A IMX 9000 - 2S HSR. The store guy heard that this particular rod is the same blank used in the IMX Twitch which is unfortunately a 1 peace (no way to confirm this). The E6X has been an awesome rod very light and even fun for even the smallest fish but could handle big salmon 6-14lb steelhead. Im a newb when trying to pick out the right rod any help would be appreciated.
  10. What is everyone’s take on using bass jigs or creature baits with casting or spinning set ups? I know casting typically reels faster but what advantages/disadvantages do you see with both type of setups? Im setting up both using braided line with leader. #2 question is I understand the advantages of a fluorocarbon leader, but why not a mono leader with mist green line?
  11. Im looking for any opinions on some rods. Im looking to get a new jerkbait, swimbait and jig rod. I need something that can handle jerkbaits that range from 5/16- 1/2oz with depth ranges of 4ft-15ft. Preferably something that is from 6’8”-6’10” and mh. The swimbait rod has to be able to handle swimbaits up to 7oz. And the jig rod i would need it to handle jigs that with a trailer weigh around 7/10 of an oz. I want something that has excellent sensitivity but also good backbone and 7’6”+ is what ive been comfortable with before thanks for the help
  12. Hey guys, looking to make an upgrade in my lineup and wanted to hear some recommendations. I'm looking for a new all purpose work horse (mostly light jigging, Texas rigs, swim jigs, worming). Budget is sub $200 and I'd like to stay at or under 7'3". I'm envisioning a MH/F but open to discussion. Some rods I'm considering: Diawa Tatula, Shimano Zodius, Dobyns Fury, G. Loomis E6X, St. Croix Bass-X. Looking for a MH/F with a really good parabolic. Anyone with experience with any of these, some insight would be greatly appreciated. The rest of the rod lineup in below. Thanks! Ready...GO! ? - St. Croix Mojo 7'1" M/F (Finesse, Ned, Dropshot) - Dobyns Fury 7'0" MH/MF (Reaction, Jerk, Lipless, Shallow Crank, Squarebill) - ??? - Okuma TCS 7'3" H/F (Heavy Jig, Flipping, Frog, Small Swimbait) - Lew's TP-1 7'3" MH/M (Deep Crank)
  13. Bass fishing on the Maumelle River in April.
  14. Just wondering what everyone’s opinion is when it comes to jig trailers. When I first got into bass fishing, I always matched my trailer to my jig. After reading multiple articles and reading through forums, I’ve definitely changed it up. I personally like a contrasting color most of the time nowadays, especially when fishing a bladed jig. Just looking for some opinions on this topic.... What’s your preference? Do you change it up? ETC, ETC, ETC...
  15. I’ve been looking to get a new worm and jig rod (with maybe the occasional chatterbait or topwater) and I’ve narrowed it down to either the 6’10”MH Zodias or 72MH Zodias or a 7MH Avid. They honestly both seem like very good rods, and I like the makeup of the Zodias a little bit more than the Avid. However, I also like the Avids warranty and the fact that it’s made in the US as well. The lack of hookeeper on the Zodias does not bother me. For those of you who own the rods, what are they like? Are they too stiff to throw 1/4 ounce t rigs? Are they sensitive? Are they versitile or pretty technique specific? If anyone owns both, which do you prefer? Any and all imput is appreciated! Thanks!
  16. Looking at the 7’1 MH X-Fast Kistler Helium 3 and the ALX Zolo Deputy for Jigs and T-Rigs. Fishing open water and relatively light cover, 3/16 oz t-rigs and 3/8 oz and 1/2 jigs. I know people like a heavier rod for 1/2 jigs, but I’m looking to be able to throw 3/8 oz and 1/2 oz in the same rod. The He3 is on sale for $221 right now while I would probably get a custom Deputy (change colors and grips) for around 240-250.
  17. Hey everyone, so my go-to is the Yum Dinger/Yum Finesse Worm (Wacky, Neko, Carolina in Green Pumpkin, Watermelon Red Flake, June Bug). This spring I want to start expanding more and using Arkie Jigs. Does anyone have any recommendation on their favorite brand and color, trailer (craws/grubs/paddletails) combinations for the different seasons? Which works best for you? Also, how do you normally retrieve such jigs with the specific combinations? Again, I am just looking to expand and perfect my arsenal one at a time. Any help would be amazing I also use Crankbaits (Berkely Pitbull 5.5 Squarebill), Buzz Baits (Booyah 3/8 top water) and Swimbaits (Powerbait 4" Rib Shads ) but for some reason or another unsuccessful using them. I will save that for another thread lol.
  18. I'm currently using a 7'2" MH Zodias as my jig/worm rod. I live the feel of it, but I've noticed it isn't as sensitive as I would like for bottom contact lures. I think it would serve better elsewhere. I'm looking for a rod to use strictly for jigs and worms. I'm really looking at ALX, Tatula Elite, and iRod. My budget is $200. A little more or little less doesn't matter. I'm waiting for Black Friday before ordering anyways.
  19. Hey all, I'm having trouble choosing between the Lew's Tournament MB, and the Lew's Mach Crush SLP for a new caster-combo. I'm set on the speed demon pro 7'3 Medium jig/worm, but if anyone has an opinion on these 2 reels or a completely different smooth LOW PROFILE baitcaster for this setup I'd appreciate any advice.
  20. Hey all, I'm dead set on 2 cheap rods for a caster setup, that I could buy in bulk. Can I have some of your guy's or gal's opinions on the kingkast Royale Legend, and the Penn rampage? If not what would you suggest? I'm looking at medium to medium heavy for 1/4 to 1/2 jig/worm/Spinner for Striped and largemouth. Thanks!
  21. Deciding between one of these 3 for a new jig rod. All would be rated for 3/8-1 oz lures. Daiwa is the most affordable, and people claim its very sensitive, but i like the looks of the st croix LT and after researching it seems kistler makes some of the most sensitive rods. Anyone with experience, is there a big difference in sensitivity, and is there a big difference in performance from the higher prices of two of these rods as compared to the tatula? Also considering a refurbished dobyns champion extreme hp but i'm afraid a 705 would be too heavy and stiff for a jig/heavy texas rig rod. I know i've posted a lot about this, but really want to make sure my money is spent wisely. Thanks
  22. I'm deciding between a few Jig rods in the $100-$150 range, and unfortunately can not hold most of them so I need others experience. I'm buying a 7'-7'3 MH XF/F Casting rod for jigs/Heavy t Rigs. So far its come down to -Dobyns Fury (I own one and like it, but have nothing to compare it to) -IRod Fiber (People love the genesis, this is the same blank with cheaper components) -Cabela's Tournament ZX (sale for $79) -Lews Custom Speed Stick -Possibly wait for refurbished Dobyns Sierra ----- I need to add, There is a 6'8 MH veritas on sale for $40. (I don't mind that it fishes one power up). Ive felt the veritas but thought the material felt somewhat cheap, and I've heard it isn't that sensitive. But $40 is a VERY good price... I also am considering the DAIWA AirDX. I was going to buy it for a frog rod, but heard really good things and some swear that it fishes jigs with the sensitivity of a $150 rod. However, the very low price point makes me skeptical...It would Reallly help if someone could give their honest opinion of this rod. Thanks
  23. Anyone who has used this rod, is it sensitive enough for a good jig rod? I am willing to spend up to $200 on a jig rod, are there better options than a sierra at this price point? Also, is it more sensitive than the Fury? Ive seen people say its not and people say its much more sensitive. They are on sale at TW and im considering buying one. Thanks for the input.
  24. If you guys needed one rod for each of the three categories below, what would they be (in terms of power, action, glass/graphite, length, etc), and what do you use if you already have a rod that covers some? - Jig/Frog/ heavy cover rod -Spinnerbait/chatterbait/crank rod -topwater rod I'm curious as to what you guys use. I will be purchasing three rods to cover all these and want to see what others opinions are.
  25. Went fishing for about 50 minutes today and caught one in the 3 - 4 pound range on a flipping jig. The thing is, even though it wasn't hooked deep, that heavy wire hook was pretty hard to get out. The hook was barbless, but I still had to tear it's lip a lot to un-hook it. Is that common with jigs, or did he just get unlucky?
