  1. Hey All, I am having some problem maximizing my horsepower. I run a 20' 1997 Javelin 400TE with a Johnson 225 Venom. I am getting 46-48 mph when from what I've read I should be between mid-60s to low 70s. I have a manual jackplate and have been reading that Javelins need to be set up lower than other boats on the jackplate. Can anybody confirm this? I can't imagine that a wrong jackplate set up would cost me this much mph. Is there something specific in the motor I should be looking at? The motor smokes due to a fouled plug so I am changing them and the wires this weekend. Is there anything else I should or could look at? Thanks in advance, Andrew
  2. Ive got an 07 nitro 591 and ive been wanting to get a powerpole but I keep seeing everyone who has them has a jackplate.Do I need a jackplate in order to mount one?
  3. Hello, recently I have upgraded the motor on my Jon boat from a 2.3 Honda 4 stroke, to a 9.9 Yamaha 4 stroke. Although there are a plethora of benefits from switching, I have found so far only one dilemma; that being It's a long shaft. One of my main reasons to buy a Jon boat was to have the benefit of cruising into the shallow waters that I fish. With a long shaft that isn't even possible to conceive. Being of no income at this time, I am planning to build a jack plate here shortly without the extensive use of welding. While thinking (Lets be honest, daydreaming) about this at school about a week ago I came to the cold truth that building a variable height plate would be to difficult and require a great deal of welding. So my question to you is- Where should my prop (or the main fin just above the prop) be in correlation to the bottom of my boat as a general standard? I want to be able to get the best performance out of it as well but just don't know how high is too high or too low is too low. Any help would be appreciated.
  4. Hey guys, I have a 2000 Nitro NX882 with a 150 Mercury XR6 on it. It has a factory manual jack plate on it and I feel that maybe the motor is positioned too low. I see all those guys trimming up with big cat tails while i can't trim past the motor beeing leveled with the boat. maybe it is too high also i dont know. Is there a way to know if it is in its correct position? should the prop be lets says 5 inches below the hull ? Let me know
  5. 2011 Ranger Z118 with Mercury 150 Optimax, 8 " jackplate, 23p Tempest plus. If anyone has this setup or can help me out, please reply. I am trying to figure out the best height to move my motor to to get the fastest speed possible. I know this is not a rocket but I want the most that I can get without burning the motor up. What top speed, rpm, water pressure should I be looking for. So far I can not get it to turn the motor over 5450 rpm.
