  1. Hey guys, this has been confusing me for the past month. I caught this bluegill at lake perris in so cal, but looks nothing like any other I have caught. Does anyone have a good guess as to what type of hybrid this is? or is it just a normal bluegill? Thanks and good look fishin!
  2. I'm planning to buy a fishing kayak this year to take my bass fishing to the next level, since at the moment all I have is a canoe. The main thing I needed above all else was standing stability. So I looked for a fishing kayak that was stable enough to fish in standing up almost %100 of the time, and I couldn't find hardly anything! and the few I did it was ridiculously expensive like the Native Watercraft Titan 13.5. Then I discovered the solution that is slowly becoming more popular. Kayak - paddle board hybrids designed for superior stability for fishing. I did lots of research and i narrowed it down to 2 models. The Vibe Maverick 120 vs the Kaku Kahuna. I'm hoping someone here has some experience and share their opinion. Thanks!
  3. Got a baitcaster I'm going to spool with something other than braid. Will be a general purpose setup, you name it I'll throw on this setup. What would you recommend along with what lb test?
  4. I fish for wiper mostly at Herington and Milford. Anyone else on here fish for them? Trying to share my techniques and gain some also.
  5. Hey guys, I'm in the market for a line to go on my jerkbait/crankbait rod. It's most likely going to be YZH. I know a lot of you use YZH and was wondering what size you guys suggest. Tackle Tour used 12lb when they tested the vision 110 but that seems a little thick. Suggestions? Thanks!
  6. I am going to be fishing in a rowboat with my girlfriend and the lake we are fishing is known for good hybrid striped bass fishing. I want to fish them when we take a break. I can row the boat while she relaxes and still have lines in the water to possibly catch a great fish. Lake Shabbona, IL. I have the appropriate rods/reels/line just need to know how I rig the live shad up so it is in the strike zone. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated!
  7. I've been having some problems with my yo zuri hybrid line and wanted to know if anybody else had the same complications? I got 14 lb test and its been breaking around or in the reel. I've gotten a few birds nest but not a crazy amount, does that have anything to do with it? Ive lost a few lures and a fish or two and im not happy about that this is also my first baitcaster, maybe im doing something wrong? All input is appreciated!
  8. Caught this bass in a river near my house were the DNR has stocked shoal bass and some unknown entity illegally stocked smallmouth bass. Rumor has it the two species are breeding and creating "smoalies". I honestly have never caught a smallmouth and only recently started fishing for shoal bass, so it would be nice to know which one I just caught. I appreciate any help identifying this fish.
  9. Hey guys thought I'd share b/c I always enjoy reading your reports. Season finally opened. I was out on a sunny day. Fishing bays, towards the back end (shallow end). Water was crystal clear. Water temp was 67-70. After a couple smaller guys (2-3lbers) in the pads I backed off and caught a couple 5 lbers (big fish up north!) off a submerged rockpile in 6' water and a stand alone log in 6' water before 9:30am. Caught a few more 2-3 lbers in different sets of pads bringing me to lunch. Wind picked up in the afternoon and started blowing onto one side of the bank laced with pads, I fished along that bank and picked a 5 lber off a laydown with pads around it and a bit deeper water pocket. I picked up a 4.5 lber from about 6" of water in the pads. Everyone of the big fish came from the same rig: 7'0" MH Daiwa Procyon, Shimano Citica, 12# Yo-Zuri Hybrid, 1/8oz sinker, owner off-set worm hook, 8" lizard and one fish on a zoom speed worm. The rest of the fish came from a typical frog/braid set-up. One or 2 little guys on a crank bait set up. Nothing on my jig rod (I didn't fish it much as the super clear water forced me to downsize to the worm/lizard setup described above). I wanted to comment on the fact that everyone talks about yo-zuri being a great line on baitcasting gear. I must admit I was extremely happy with it compared to all other mono/FC lines. For the price I can forget about expensive FC lines and it responded so much better in sensitivity and stretch (lack there of) compared to mono. Casts great. I tend to hammer my hooksets on a fairly stiff MH rod and I had 0 breakoffs or knot failures with 12# (san diego jam) where I manage to break 17-20# FC. Best of luck out there guys! (all fish caught and released)
  10. solid day of fishing last week, i was using 6 inch senkos wacky rigged& some crank bait's sizes 2.0 and 2.5.The 5lb + was off a 2.5 deep bomber crank bait, i had a 8+pounder on my line and as soon as it surfaced about 5 feet away from me, it snapped my line and took my lure this is 3 hours of fishing when we had that hot day last week. i caught alot more and have pics but the files are to big to upload
