  1. What hook and what size works for all fish and baits mainly use wacky worm. But also use night crawlers, salmon eggs ect
  2. Does anyone have a specific hook size and brand for wacky rig without weed guard and texas rig hook that i can get a lifetime supply off
  3. What carp bait works in the US the best? People say that boiles don't work here as they do in Europe. I tried sweet corn but it doesn't work. Also, I tried dough bait with strawberry jello and it didn't work as well. The only bait that works well is quick greats+white bread+creamed corn. If you know other carp bait and it's known to be working please share it here.
  4. I found a Huddleston lure while fishing recently. It's I great condition except that the hook is rusty. Can the top hook be replaced? If so, what hook should I get and how works I install it? Joe
  5. Just got a new tracker boat and I want to upgrade the little fish finder that came with it. Never used a fish finder before. I want it to be at least 7 inches and have DI and SI. Out of the Lowrance Hook 2 7 tripleshot, Elite 7 Ti, and 7 HDS what would you recommend for a first time user that wants a product to work well and last for a long time? Also what are your thoughts on the Helix 7 and the garmen fish finders? Thanks, Alex.
  6. How do you guys set the hook with a owner wacky hook?(or any wacky style hook) Do you set it vertical and hard or just a reel set or a slight sweep motion? I fish my senko's vertical so I find it easy setting the hook upwards. I usually yank decently hard since I'm pretty used to it but many times the hook pops out of the fish's mouth. Sometimes it will seem like its on for a second or two and then its gone. I'm switching to these wacky hooks because I heard they have a high hookup percentage and I want to maximize it by doing it right!
  7. Do you need to set the hook for an octopus hook or is it like the circle hook where you just reel in? And if you do need to set the hook how hard do you need to set it? I just got 5/0 octopus hooks(yeah I know way too big) and I was using them with o-ring wacky senko's and I missed like 5+ bass so I'm wondering if I'm doing things wrong. I also run the hook parallel to the senko rather than perpendicular because of the o-ring. Next time I will be getting Owner 1/0 hooks. It's just that I went to the walmart nearest to me and they only had the octopus hooks. Next time I will go to Bass Pro and get the owner hooks for sure. Is it really necessary to make the hook perpendicular or does it not matter much. Could it be the difference between me missing or catching the biggest bass of my life?
  8. I know this question has probably been asked multiple times, but how do you guys fish your wacky rigged senko's. And by that I mean the technique you use not how to rig it up or anything like that. Me personally I cast it out and let it sink on slack line and after a bit I'll reel in slack and twitch it multiple times upwards and then let it sink again. Rinse and repeat. So I basically just copy what everyone does but I noticed they usually do it with Texas Rigged Senkos not wacky rigged ones. I was wondering if this is the best technique for getting a fish to bite? I know that you're supposed to let the senko do all the work since it has amazing action. I've also heard of just lifting the rod tip up after letting it sink rather than twitching it up. Which way works better in your opinion? Another question I had was how do O-ring's affect the senko's action? I have been using o-ring's to save my money since senko's rip easily and I noticed the hook goes in along the worm length wise instead of like a t-bone style without the o-ring. Does that affect hookups and the senko's action while falling? And is it fine to keep fishing the same senko even if it gets a little ripped in the middle where the o-ring is? Sometimes the senko gets a little torn up where its sort of dangling but I still use it until the senko either falls off or rips in two. Am I just wasting my time or does a ripped senko not affect the action much?
  9. I am sure all of us have seen this happen, but the other day I was out on a local pond here in Ashburn VA and I hooked a small Largemouth. Now being the greedy little thing it was, it swallowed the grub I was casting hook and everything. I had a very hard time trying to get the hook out without injuring the fish but ultimately I had to kind of tear into it and unhook. I saw that the fish was injured but if I cut the line at it's mouth it would have probably died, if I tore the hook out it would have died. What do you guys usually do when a situation like this arises. Note that I'm pretty new to the whole fishing scene and clearly was worried. Any input would be appreciated. Keep those lines tight and lips ripped
  10. Today I caught my first striper ever. It wasn't a huge fish, only about 2-3 lbs. But while unhooking him hooked my index finger with a treble hook (for the first time as well) from the lure past the barb. Pulled it out, and caught two more stripers. It was a good day.
  11. I have a 2016 Feel Free lure 13.5. This has a box in middle of Kayak, front of seat. To mount Fish finder on, with battery in box, and transducer under neath. Am trying to pick out a good Fish Finder. Withing he $430 range. I've currently been looking at the Garmin Striker 4DV $179 ( But screen is only 3.5 ) Been looking at the Lowrance Hook 5 $399( Has missed reviews ) Also Been looking at the Humming Bird Helix 5 SI KVD combo. It is on sale for $423. ( Not sure side imaging would even work with me, since The hull of my Kayak would be on sides of transducer. If I lowered it then would become damaged.) Any help is much appreciated. If there is a better Fish Finder not listed here you would recommend please do so. And tell me why. I just wanna get the best bang for my buck. Thanks.
  12. I'm new to this forum, but not new to bass fishing! I grew up bass fishing! I fished religiously throughout high school challenging myself to catch at least one fish once a day and see how many days in a row I could do it, my personal record was 39 days, planing on beating it. I was born and raised bass fishing East Texas but the military has me in Eastern Washington, a whole new kind of bass fishing, so we will see how this plays out! Non the less I'm out on the lake as much as possible trying to learn the new water out here!
  13. I know I came across something like this one day when I was doing some research, and I'm having trouble finding it again. The question here is.. When I'm working Texas rig, is there anyway the bullet weight can affect a hook set? Wether it be the bass gulped up the weight when she sucked in the lure, causing her to open her mouth when the hook is set from the weight pounding on the inside of her mouth, or the weight to heavy that you really only whip the weight up vs actually whipping on the hook? I mean honestly I have been fishing Texas rig all my life and of course I have missed more fish than i can count (I can say the same about how many I've caught) but if there was an actual reason potentially behind the weight on why I could have missed a handful of those that got away? So if you have heard of anything like this please spin me up on it! And I know of a hundred other reasons on why there could have been a failed hook set, just want to know if the weight, or position of the weight affected it at all! Thank you!
  14. what type of hook do you like for tubes? ive been flipping them but it seems like my hookup ratio is way down compared to my other soft plastics. and im doing everything the same. its like the hook is barely hooking them and then they pull off has happen 4 times this year already. the ones do hook its barely in the skin on the mouth like not enough of the hook is popping. i was using a trokar ewg hook. do i need a wider gap hook? what hook do you recommend?
  15. I have some Yum Money, some Keitech Fat, and Big Bite swimbaits and would like to use them and try them out this year. What size works for you guys when you throw 5" and 6" swimbaits? The 3/0 seems too small for the 4.8 Keitechs, or maybe I rigged it wrong. It just seems like there is not much room for the bait to slide down the hook shank to get the hook in the fish's mouth for the hookset. Please list your particular brand if it works and explain to me why it works. I like to know the reasons why and not just blindly do things. If you could also explain the particulars on the rigging. i.e. do you cut the bait with scissors? Do you tex-spose the hook? Thanks.
  16. Hey I am looking to replace my rear hook on my shadow rap with a feathered one. I just want to know what size the hook is so i don't put on a hook that is to small or to big. Jeff
  17. What tube jigs do all you smallmouth guys use? I've used some cheap ones I got online, and i love confidence baits draggin heads, but i want some traditional jigs for Sturgeon Bay.
  18. Today I decided to try microfishing. What a fun! I chought about 25-30 fish! Sure, as the name "microfishing" suggests it's not a huge fish but it's a lot of fun. Here are few of the fish I couldn't identify. Who knows what species are these?
  19. i know you should closely match the hook diameter to the thickness of the line you are using, right? because too thin a line and too thick a hook, you can easily break the line or knot. and vise-versa you can straighten or unbend the hook. my question is, i use 6 or 8lb (i dont remember) silverline co-polymer line on my 6'6ft medium light spinning rod. with a shimano sahara 2500 reel. i like to use finesse worms and senkos, drop shotting and no hooking wacky rig etc etc.. what hooks are o.k. to use with such thin line? i have 1 o/t offset worm hooks, and size 2, 4 and 6 octopus and baitholder hooks... are these okay? or is there a super thin wire hook for such line?
  20. My neighbor has a small pond around 2-3 acres and I have recently started to fish in this pond. Lately I have been fishing for around 2 hours and only catching one bass. The pond has low visibility. I can only see around 1 foot on the bank. To fish, I use either a dark purple 4" worm or a square billed watermelon colored crankbait. There is no trees or any structure at the bottom that I am aware of although there are trees that shade the outside of the pond during some parts of the day. There are only largemouth bass and small bream. The bottom is lined with leaves making it hard to use crankbaits. On one side of the pond there are a bunch of small rocks that line the edge but still can't catch much there. I am aware that bass like weed beds and drop offs but I do not know how to find them. Would anybody recommend anything to maximize the fish caught?
  21. This is a way to fish sack style with three worms seemed a little over board for me. I used: VMC weedless whacky head flick shake 3- junebug 4.8 flick shake worms caught 11 fish all one pound except for a 2.5 I really had fun fishing this. Been fishing whacky a lot this is a good way to mix it up.
  22. Does anyone know good fishing pond/lakes around Greenville, NC? I don't have a boat or a kayak so I'm looking for bank fishing. I know only one place where to fish but its heavily pressured. You can throw whole tackle store without any luck. For example today I used: variety of trick worms on Texas rig, shaky head, dropshot, weightless, craws, lipless crankbait. All I got is just a few nibbles. Went fishing at 6:00 am.
  23. Wow! I can only guess what it takes to land fish like this! http://www.anglersmail.co.uk/news/world-carp-record-rises-to-105-lb-56992
  24. What a great fishing was today! I had 3 catfish, a few bluegills, 2 largemouth bass, and the price of the day 14 lbs carp! P.S. I wish I had a better selfie.
  25. I'm a big fan of carp fishing. I use different carp fishing methods and yesterday I decided to try a waggler float fishing for .....bluegill! And those guys were nailing it like crazy. I started with my hook on the bottom of the river but bluegills didn't event touch it. Then I readjusted the split shot pattern the way that would allow the bait to sink slowly, so called "fishing on the drop". That made a huge difference. Who would've thought! The bait was: quick greets+creamed corn+white bread+paprika. I just rolled it into small dough balls and put it on the hook #10 with the point exposed. It seems to be too much for bluegill but the ponds and the river banks I have access to are heavily pressured. The tackle has to be a little sophisticated if you wanna catch something.
