  1. Considering trying the recoils on a fiberglass 6’10 squarebill rod for target casting docks and laydowns. Just wondering what layout you guys have used when using recoils on a build. My plan was to copy a concept layout with a double foot 8, double foot 6, followed by 8 size six runner… 🤷🏻‍♂️
  2. I have 2 fishing rods and was wondering if anyone new where I could get my guides inspected and repaired
  3. I picked up a Quantum 7' KVD Medium heavy crankbait rod for around $80 on a good sale from Tackle Warehouse around the holidays. I have used it a couple of times and like the rod so far. However, I did notice that the epoxy around most of the guides seems to have air under it, and while fishing in light rain the other day I noticed that water will get underneath the epoxy and touch the thread wraps in some of these spots. I am on the fence on whether or not I should send this back as a warranty claim and try my luck with a new one. May not be a big deal but the water getting in seems concerning. Looking for some thoughts on how much of a problem this really is to the rod's longevity, performance, etc, and if it would be worth the $20 or so in freight to send it back. Photos of a few of the guides are attached. Thank you in advance for helping ease my mind. Jake
  4. Looking for some guide advice for a build I’m about to get started on. I’m building my ideal popping cork rod for inshore speckled trout fishing. I usually run a 20# or 30# braid main line with a fluorocarbon leader anywhere between 12# and 20#. I use either a uni knot or FG knot to connect the lines together. What guide setup does everyone like for a spinning rod where a leader knot will come into play? Micros are obviously not an option, but I’m wondering what everyone thinks about this scenario before I decide.
  5. Hi everyone. I have a early 80s, Skyline 100% graphite rod. Its a 5'6" spinning rod. My dad gave me this rod in 1980. All of the guides&tip need replaced now, which i will do this winter. I was looking into the Microwave Guides. I know it will cost more than its worth, but to me it worth a million. Can any of you tell me what guides i need to order, and what you use to measure for thr tip? And any other advice on wether to use a different type of quality guide. This is a medium rod also, that will have a shimano 1500 reel on it. Thank you in advance -- kdw96
  6. So I was checking out some rods I just bought and someone mentioned that some rod guides can be over 100 dollars and it got me thinking. What are the types of guides and what benefits do some have over others? does it increase sensitivity? I read weight saving is a huge part of the deal and also the design of the guide can improve casting distance. So my question is aimed towards the ring material. I am sure longevity is contemplated but then again why would someone prefer to put SiC guides if AlumOx can get the job done? if possible could someone put a list or link me to one where the guides are listed in better to worst or vice versa or just explain what benefits one has over the other? Part of the reason I got so interested is I just purchased an okuma flipping stick and it caught my attention that the guides are AlumOx, my other rods have zirconium and are not as expensive as the okuma one. Thanks.
  7. Shot in the dart here does anyone know what are the guide sizes are one the Loomis nrx spinning rod?
  8. I'm wanting a rod that will handle most of my lighter baits. I just purchased a Duckett Ghost 6'10" medium action a week ago and it snapped on a 1 pounder yesterday. I returned it and I'm going to move to a higher end Dobyns rod. I'm looking at a Dobyns Savvy Micro Guide 663c to replace it. I realize this rod is shorter by 4 inches, but I do most of my fishing from a bank or in a kayak. I'll mainly use it to throw spooks, poppers, light jigs, light Texas rigs, squarebills, flukes and senkos. All of these techniques are listed on Dobyns' website for this particular rod except for squarebills. It's possible that I'll get myself into a crankbait rod in the future, but seeing as squarebills are the main kind of crankbaits I throw, it would be nice if this rod would cover that as well. Will the action and power be similar to the medium/fast Ghost? Will this rod handle squarebills well? Give me your thoughts!
  9. So on my mojo bass casting rod, the rubber stopper piece has come off and without it I have noticed it frays my fluorocarbon quite easily. What is that piece called? I need to either order it online or if there are any quick fixes that I can do, please let me know. Thanks!
  10. Alright, so I see a lot of things being said about stainless steel guides, and I was wondering the reason? Do they not last long? I thought it would only matter if you were to use braided line with them. Given, I'm not a tournament angler (atm), should this not effect me since I'd probably only fish just about every weekend that I could in the spring/summer. I was wondering because i bought a Powell Inferno when they came out and I really like it. It may be a stupid question, but I really don't know. Thanks
  11. Hello, I am a new member but have been fishing for years. I have 3 friends coming up to Massachusetts to fish and I am looking for a guide. Does anyone know of any guides in the northeast? We are willing to travel. Thank you very much to the forum and any help I can get. Rob
