  1. Hello, all I wanted your thoughts between these two rods. I wanted a longer rod to cushion more headshakes and fish shaking me off. I want to improve my landing ration with little paddletail swimbaits, ned rigs, dropshots and small topwaters. I have narrowed down to both of these 7'6 rods and wanted your opinions on which you think is better and why. Thank you!
  2. Hello everyone! New to the forum as a member, but been a lurker for a little while now. I am currently wanting to get some advice on what my next purchase should be. I own the Dobyn's Xtasy DRX 742SF and love it! Not one complaint about it, but I am now wanting a casting setup. I am going to be picking up another high end rod for bottom contact, and it will be paired with a Shimano Metanium DC. I am going to use it for 1/2oz to 3/4oz jigs + trailer, smaller swimbaits, T-rigs, etc. Occasionally I'll even throw the Z-Man Giant TRD with their Mag Shroomz Head that will weigh around 1oz. Jigs are definitely the main purpose, though. I am considering getting another Xtasy, the DRX 755C, or venture out and try the NRX 894C. I know the 894C is rated up to 3/4oz, but I'm discouraged to move up to the 895C, because I hear how tip heavy it is. I have also heard the 894C can handle up to 1oz lures fairly well. A Dobyn's Champion Extreme DX 744C split grip is also on the board, but I am really focusing on the Xtasy or NRX. What are the opinions out there? Has anyone tried either, or both of these specific models? If you were in my boat (pun intended), what would you do? Thanks everyone!
  3. Hey guys I’m looking to pick up a new jig rod, I had a gloomis imx pro 854 but I just sold it and looking to pick up a high end rod, what do you guys recommend?
  4. I’m sending this out for the Gloomis people out there, I’m looking for a new jig rod, preferably a gloomis. I throw at most a 1/2oz jig. I’ve been looking at the NRX 854c but thought I would ask you all what you think. I’m looking for sensitivity price range is $500
  5. Would you pick one over the other? And what is the reasoning behind it? I have both of these and am not sure if I want to keep them both or get rid of one. They both are great rods, but can be used for pretty much the same applications. I love the action on the MBR since I started my high end fishing with OG Mag Bass rods, however once I moved to the NRX JWR rods I got to really to love how the road loads up. I'm just not sure I need both of these rods. Anyone in my situation? What are you using the rods for?
  6. I did a post a while back about cranking rods, finally went with the IMX Pro 845c. Now looking for a reel to go with it, daiwa or shimano fanboy, kinda looking now at either a used antares, a metanium MGL, a bantam mgl or daiwa steezs. Any experience on this topic and ideas on what would balance the rod best? WRB talked in my older post about IPT on 100 sized reels, I would like to take this into consideration. what to do? Sincerly, Nathan,
  7. I've been trying to avoid reviving beaten topics but I can't seem to make a decision between the 852s NRX & GLX. Granted the $80 dollar difference isn't horribly great but knowing if there's a great difference in rods is the question we all ask (Non-owners of either rod). However, just curious on your opinions (owners of the rods) is there truly that great of a difference at only an $80 jump? Lastly, I can pick up the GLX now, on sale for 250, or do I pass and get the NRX? ***Both rods are most recent versions.
  8. This originally started as just a thought in my head, followed by research, and now here. I use a St. Croix LTB "Plastics" (new model) with 12lb fluoro as my current light t-rig, shakey head, senko, and finesse jig rod, but because I lack self control it wasn't long before I began looking at some other offerings. Now a lot of us know every manufacturer makes a better rod by application. So, before I inevitably go off and purchase another rod I most definitely do not need, I would like to here some opinions from those whom have experience with these rods or similar. TLDR; I've been eye-balling G. Loomis' NRX 852C & 853C JWR because who hasen't. As well as Dobyn's DX 702C & 703C HP. I've been debating whether NRX claimed "superior lightness and sensitivity" outweigh the Extreme HP's own sensitivity, balance, and obvious value.
  9. In need of some advice! Ive been fishing at a pond that has heavy moss just about everywhere I look. Instead of fishing around it, I thought I’d try to fish in it! Overall the pond is pretty shallow. Where I’m noticing the most cover, the water depth range is 3ft to 10ft. I picked out a rod (G Loomis GLX 954c FPR). The only jigs in my aresanal are siebert jigs but own no flipping jigs. I know I need something heavy enough to get through the thick mats of moss but considering how shallow the water is, I don’t want to go too heavy so I maximize the presentation on the fall. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!
  10. I’m looking for a new casting rod for all around use around a 7ft MH. I was thinking about either a Dobyns Fury, a St Croix Mojo Bass, or a G Loomis E6X which I could get for around $110 with the varsity shimano program. Can anyone give me some insight to which rod performs the best? I’m open to other rods too if you have suggestions. Thanks
  11. Ok so I have come across a brand new 804 GLX (green) for $300. Just curious if that's a good price or if I could get a new GLX or even a used NRX for that. I haven't seen any for that price but people on here have talked about getting those rods for that?
  12. Hello, I'm graduating this year and with the money I'll be looking to get a really nice Texas rig combo. My current plan is to get a core 50mg7 (if I can find one) and a GLX 803 JWR. Thoughts and or suggestions? My current t-rig combo is a 843 MBR E6X with a scorpion xt 1000 and I love it just want a rod a bit lighter and more sensitive. Thanks
  13. Hi BR, You might have seen my other post about my top water rod. But I am upgrading my crank bait rod also. I am from Toronto Canada and our fall fishing is coming to an end. But it is also a great time to grab discounted gear and upgrade arsenal. I am a huge Loomis fan and I was wondering which Loomis rod would be best for crank bait. I am most likely looking in the GLX line since NRX doesn't make crank bait rods. Keep in mind I think I am leaning towards a GLX 843 CBR OR GLX 845 CBR , let me know what your thoughts are! Drunkentigerrr

  15. Hello! Long time reader, first time poster. I did a search for this title and haven't exactly reached a straight answer. I want to simply know which one of these great reels is overall the better reel paired with a G. Loomis NRX 894c spooled with 20 lb. braid fishing with jigs/spinners/swimbaits/senkos/t-rigs/c-rigs/buzzbaits in the Northeast of the US. I have my bro selling me his lightly used 2011/12 Calais 201 DC for $300, and I know a new Metanium DC goes for 350-400 on the bay. So help me decide which one is the better reel out of the two. Thanks! -Will Bro
  16. Should i get the glx for $320 or the imx for $200? Is the $120 really worth it? Im going to be using the rod for jigs, flipping and pitching softbaits, and some topwater.
  17. Thinks about getting a G.loomis e6x rod is 189.99 worth it, or would a better choice be like a Dobyns Furry or Savvy. Thanks for your Addvice
  18. Hey everyone, I'm just getting back into the tournament scene this year. Recently moved to ohio and will be fishing the ABA ohio division. So I'm looking for some suggestions on my rod and reel pairings, I know everything I have isn't ideal, I really need some slower reels but it's what iv got and what I will be working with so here's what I have. Baitcasters: Quantum Smoke 7.0:1 Concept A 8.1:1 Lews laser pro msb 7.1:1 Casting rods: Fenwick elite tech 7' medium fast GSX Elite 7'2" med heavy ??action Lews Custom Lite 7' med heavy fast Spinning reels: Shimano Symetre 2500fl Shimano solstice 2500 Spinning Rods: G-Loomis Drop Shot 6'10" mag-med ex-fast BPS tourney Special 6' med Fast Also wondering what line you would pair with each set-up. Thanks in advanced for the suggestions!
  19. Okay so I have a new setup down packed for what I want , I can't afford 10 different poles for all different things so I'm getting the G Loomis E6X casting rod, 7'1 medium heavy, or heavy fast action.. For an all around setup... The reel is a Shimano Ctitica 7,2:1 left retrieve. I am going to put 50lb braid on it , because I love frogging , but this is going to be my only rod and reel bait casting setup... So here's the question , if I wanted to use like a deep diving crankbait or Texas rig up some stuff, like something that doesn't need 50lb braid, would putting on like a 15lb flouro leader be okay for deep diving crankbaits and Texas rigs and stuff like that? The braid is Suffix 832 50 lb low vi green.. And I think the flouro will be Seagur invisex... Thank you in the mean time !!!
  20. Hey fellas, I am an occasional reader of the forum, and though you guys might could offer some advice on a new rod and reel setup for me. I am looking for a new setup to throw a spinnerbait with that is strictly dedicated to that. I like to fish Kentucky Lake at night, and one of my go to baits is a spinnerbait thrown at the points on the main lake. My delima is this. I have basically decided on getting a Shimano Curado as the reel in the 6.3:1 retrieve; but the rod choice is more difficult. I would really like to try the new e6x rods out, but the one that they have denoted for a spinnerbait (the 812c) is only rated for 3/8-1/2 oz baits. As most of the baits i throw in my situation are 1/2oz or bigger this is probably not the correct rod for me, but i was curious about some other models. Does anyone have any experience with the e6x and if so, would the 803c or the 853c be a good choice? If not, are there any other suggestions? I would really like to stay under the $200 range. Thanks for any help!
  21. Hi Everyone, I'm new to forum here. It's a pleasure to be a member here now. I have been bass fishing since I was 12 years old and now I'm 26, so I have about 13 years of experience. I'm just recreational fisherman and not a pro or anything like that, but I'm a passionate about fishing and know what I'm doing. I live in San Franscisco Bay Area, so we have a plethora if species to fish for here in the ponds, creeks, lakes, delta, rivers, bay and ocean. I fish for a lot of different species depending on the time of year and my mood. Some of the species I fish for are trout, bass, catfish, lingcod, rockcod, halibut, stripers, salmon, and sturgeon. Of course there's many more species around here you could fish for, and I do fish for other species other than those that I mentioned, but the species I mentioned are the ones I have most interest in fishing for. Lately, I've been working a lot, and it has been hard to find the time to fish, so I've been keeping it local and catching some bass in the ponds next to where I live. I am writing to you here today because I am ready to upgrade my jig and worm bass rod. I am going to buy either a G. Loomis IMX 6'8" Med Hvy 803C JWR Extra Fast, 12-16lb, 3/16-5/8oz - Jig and Worm series OR I am going to buy a St. Croix Avid Casting Rod 7' Medium Heavy Fast, 12-20lb, 3/8-1oz. I've already done my research. I've looked up all of the threads I could find on this forum and others, but I wanted more information before making this purchase since it will be the most bass expensive rod I will own. I already own a Shimano Crucial and Okuma Helios rod which are about $200 each that I use for flipping, pitching, and punching. However, thoses rods are technique specific, and I want to upgrade my main jig and worm bass rod that I will be using the most. Currently, I'm using a Berkeley Lightning Rod, so either an Avid or IMX would be a big upgrade. From what I found, I think that the Avid AVC70MHXF is the most versatile and is the best bang for your buck, but I don't like that it weighs 4.7 ounces. That's pretty heavy if you ask me for a 7' MH rod because my Okuma 7' 6" Heavy rod weighs only 4.3 ounces. I hear that it's tough and sensitive though, and in a pinch, this is a rod I could also use for halibut, stripers, lingcod, and rockcod throwing swimbaits from the shore. The reason why I want the IMX 803C JWR is because G Loomis is considered the best of the best. The original IMX Rods were the Series that put G. Loomis on the map as the leader in graphite technology. G Loomis has a mystical feel to it; the brand has a certain allure that I cannot explain. Although I don't think 803 JWR will be as versatile, I know that the quality would probably be better. The rod would probably be lighter and more sensitive. Both rods have lifetime warranties. The main difference is in the quality and price. Is the G Loomis IMX worth the extra $100 to upgrade from a St. Croix Avid? I'd love to hear your opinions especially if you own or have fished with both. Thanks, The Pond King
  22. I am thinking of getting a new rod for flippin and pitchin. I have narrowed it down to the gloomis e6x and the Kistler KLX. I have used GLX's many times and z bones and I liked them both. I will be normally flippin wood.
  23. I'm looking to get a new setup and I was originally looking at the dobyns savvy 766 and pairing that with the lews super duty reel. But I just came across the gloomis e6x series and wondered if it would be better than the dobyns. For me I want the lightest gear without losing too much power for this price range. So I wasn't sure if anyone on here had fished either of these rods. Now when it comes to a reel I also discovered the 13 *** and C reels from one of my friends. I love it, it is so lightweight and smooth and I'm going to get one for my jigging and plastics rod. But my main concern is the durability of the reel. I'm going to be using heavy braid (60lb) and I don't know if the 13 reels can handle it. I know the super duty can because that's what's it's made for but the super duty reels are on the heavier side at 8 oz. The reason I'm so sceptical is because I had braid destroy my drag on my Abu Garcia revo SX and I don't want the same to happen if I get the 13 reel. Would love any opinions and suggestions. Thanks
  24. Hi Guys, Anyone have experience with this particular rod? I have an opportunity to purchase one for $200 (Brand new). Currently, my main jigging rod is a Powell Endurance 704. Is it worth adding this to the arsenal or is it too similar to the Powell? Any help is much appreciated.
  25. I'm looking to complete my arsenal and was hoping you experts on here could help me out. Below is the setups that I currently own: Crankbait Setup: Kistler Helium Crankbait Rod (7' Moderate Fast, Medium) paired with Shimano Chronarch CH200E5 Spinnerbaits: BPS Extreme Woo Davies Spinnerbait Rod (6'6" Fast, Medium) paired with Shimano Curado Bantam 200 T-Rigged Baits: BPS Extreme Wood Davies Worm Rod (6'6" Fast, Medium Heavy) paired with Shimano Scorpion MG 1000 Jig: GLoomis BCR854 Mossyback (7'1" Fast, Heavy) paired with Shimano Scorpion MG1000 Top Water: BPS Extreme Wood Davies Spinnerbait Rod (6'6" Fast, Medium) paired with Shimano Curado Bantam 200 Carolina Rig: Chatterbait: Any issues with the above setups? I want to upgrade from the BPS Extreme Rods to something a better. Any suggestions? I've only used previously Kistler and GLoomis. They are both great in my opinion. After I upgrade, I was planning to use the BPS Worm Rod for Carolina Rigging and the BPS Spinnerbait rod for chatterbaits. Will that work sufficiently? So I'm basically looking to upgrade my rod for T-Rigged baits, Spinnerbaits and top water. Also, I believe I need to add some high speed reels to my arsenal. Especially for carolina rigging and perhaps get higher speed reels for my jig setup and t-rigged? Any help, suggestions, comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
