  1. I've seen quite a few posts and replies asking for feedback on this model so I thought I'd let you know how they compare between these two Loomis lines. I've had my IMX-PRO since 2020 and got my NRX+ earlier this year, just before our local opener in May. I got the IMX-PRO after hearing Matt from TacticalBassin raving about it for finesse jigs, and at the time I was still trying to figure jigs out. Here in Portugal most of our fisheries are highland reservoirs, with steep banks and rocky to muddy bottom, some vegetation but never anything overwhelming, and finesse football jigs seemed like the best place to start. The places where I grew up fishing have lots and lots of crawdads, specifically Louisiana crawfish which was introduced here in the 70s, and together with bleak (think shad but slightly more sardine-like, of the alburnus alburnus species) is the two main types of forage for bass. I started fishing with the 844 in 2020 and it took me almost a year to figure jigs out. Since last year they've become my go-to bait and - to be quite honest - my favorite way of catching them. When the NRX+ came out I got the 822S dropshot rod, so I had to see for myself how much better the MBR was. Both rods are paired up with the Curado MGL (151HG, lefties rule) spooled with 50lb Sufix 832 to a Sunline Sniper 12 to 15lb leader, depending on what I'm throwing and where. By now you've probably all heard how good the taper on these things is. I've thrown jigs, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, smaller S-Wavers, walking baits, small frogs, and even a crankbait or two when I was beating the bank and travelling light. If you want one rod to do almost everything, this is it. As a jig rod with braid to leader, it's amazing with football jigs. However, if I'm fishing 1/2oz pitching jigs with a heavier trailer I feel like I'm hitting the upper limits of this thing's comfort zone. I mean, I'll fish them, and they don't overwhelm the rod, but you get the sense that maybe - just maybe - a heavy JWR might handle it slightly better. The IMX-PRO at the time felt like a huge jump up from what I was using - a first gen Curado 7'2 heavy and an old 853C JWR Mossyback (more like an 843 because I'm an idiot and broke about an inch off the tip but managed to fix it with the original tip guide). The IMX-PRO feels so much better than those. It balances great, too. I started out by pairing it with a regular Curado 201HG, which is on the heavier side nowadays but it balances great, but since I got the MGL to replace it I haven't gone back. This one time I even had to put the MGL 71HG on it when I backlashed so bad I couldn't recover, spooled with 30lb regular PowerPro to a 12lb fc leader, dragged a 1/2oz Bass Patrol jig with a Rage Chunk trailer, and caught this one. You can feel the bumps and ticks, but you can also feel the type of bottom you're hitting - especially with braid to leader on a tight line. You can make out logs and grass and hydrilla, it all has a distinct feel on the IMX-PRO. The NRX+ is all that but better. Now, don't expect a night and day difference here, because with these rods you start noticing the law of diminishing returns in practice. Everything is just a bit sharper. It casts better because of the way it bends, but it recovers slightly faster, too. Not enough to act like a JWR, it's still clearly a Mag Bass taper, but it snaps back into place faster than the IMX, as you'd expect from a higher end blank material and all that Shimano tech Loomis borrowed for the NRX+. It also takes slightly, just slightly, less pressure to bend the tip, which really helps when casting the light stuff. In short, if you want to dip your toes in this sort of gear, the IMX-PRO is a great, great rod. Don't feel like you have to have the NRX+ to enjoy the MBR and to have a "proper" Loomis. If you can, go for the NRX+, sure. But don't for one second think you're missing out with the IMX-PRO. I have both and I have no intention of selling it or getting rid of it. I love them both, and if I happen to have the IMX with me instead of the NRX+ I'll fish the exact same stuff the exact same way. Hope this helps the terminally indecisive guys like me out there!
  2. Just bought a used GL2 802S 6'-8" for a ned rig rod, looking to see what you all think is the best Shimano reel to pair it with. Rod is 6"8" and I'll be fishing from a kayak 90% of the time. I'm not as worried about balance as I would be with a baitcaster setup but still want it to be fairly balanced. I know some people think the GL2 are heavier than other comparable rods but I really like the feel of it. Here are the reels I'm considering and their weights, all 2500 size. Sorry, not interested in any other brands of reels. Stradic Ci4+ : 6.7oz Stradic FK : 8.3oz Ultegra: 8.5oz Nasci: 8.8oz
  3. Hey guys, I don’t know what it is, but I have this incessant desire to buy some high-end fishing rods. The rods I have in mind are NRX 803c JWR, NRX 854c JWR, and a GLX 843c MBR. I’m seriously on the brink of ordering all three at once. I’ve never owned a G. Loomis rod because of the high price, but always wanted one for the longest time. It’s still a high price for me today; I know it’s going to be a big hit on my wallet, but I can’t help it. Overall, I know logically that it’s a stupid decision if I bought these rods because I have more than enough gear than I need to catch bass… it’s just dumb.. but I’m sure some of you guys can empathize. I know that the new Conquest rods are out, but at $700 pop, I’d rather not, when I could get 3 high end rods that’ll cover more techniques for just a little more. The only contention I have with the NRX is.. how does hold up to the rods today? They were launched in 2010, that’s 7 years ago. I’m sure technology has improved some since that time, but I also know that graphite technology does not get as quickly outdated like reels. Technologically, for graphite to improve significantly it takes a much longer time imo than reels. So, I’m fairly confident that it will still hold it’s own today, but wanted to hear your guy’s opinion on it.
  4. Hey guys, I may get a G. Loomis E6X, if yall could give me some honest opinios/ reviews on it it would help a ton, Thanks
  5. Hey bassresource community, new to the forum posting topics wise, however I have gleamed quite a bit already from different discussions viewable on these forums. I will be in the market for a couple new mid-level and in some cases low-level(St. Croix, G. Loomis, Fenwick, etc.) rod and reel set-ups for next season. I am not trying to use these rods with a particular type of bait, however, what I am looking for is overall versatilty. Since I will be waiting for the obligatory Black Friday and corresponding Cyber Monday sales, I have decided to receive invaluable input from those of you on these forums that harness much more fishing knowledge than myself. The Rods sizes and action I am leaning towards are as follows: Casting Rod 7' M F Casting Rod 7' MH XF Spinning Rod 6'6"-7'2" M F-XF Spinning Rod 7' M F Also, a baitcaster reel to go along with each casting rod and spinning reels to match with the spinning rods. These sizes and action are not written in stone, it just seems to be a decent start from what I have come to understand as versatile rod characteristics. I am open to any advice given my way on this topic. Tight Lines Guys
  6. So I got a rod a while back. It's a TFO G. Loomis Tactical Series spinning rod (6' 9" med.) I like the rod a lot, but I was just wondering if anyone else have used them. I saw some reviews on TW of people comparing them to high end Loomis rods like the GLX and NRX (I think are ridiculously priced). I don't know if this is true or not, but for $150 would anything else match the sensitivity of these, or would there be a better offering at 150? I'm kind of thinking of trying one of the casting rods for plastics. I'm basically wondering if anyone else has used them or tried them, etc. So please give me some feedback. Thanks
  7. I'm about to pull the trigger on a new flipping stick today. Is there anyone with any experience with either of these? - G. Loomis Rods GLX 894 FPR - Length: 7' 5" - Lure Rating: 1/4-1oz - Technique: All around flipping stick - G. Loomis Rods GLX 953 FPR - Length: 7'11" - Lure Rating: 1/4-1oz - Technique: Flipping, Swimbaits, Carolina Rig This is a tough decision but found a great deal. I need it for flipping 3/8 oz. to occassinoally 1oz. weights in tules, brush and matts. It is to replace my old Lamiglas 8 foot telescopic flipping stick that weighs 5 friggin' pounds and has the shortest butt section ever made. Terribly uncomfortable to flip with, not because of the length but because of the weight and how tip heavy it is. Out of these two, which one would you go with?
  8. Hey guys, I am about to pickup a GLX BSR803 in great condition for $200. I was wondering if anyone has any opinions on this rod and what techniques it excels at? I would be using it mainly for wacky rigging 5" senkos as well as 3/16 oz. tubes, and 3/16 oz. - 1/4 oz. shaky heads. Thanks guys!
