  1. I broke my frog rod a few days ago when I put the dreaded high stick maneuver on a 5 pound largemouth while bank fishing. I’ve been scouring the Internet for a replacement, but I’m having trouble deciding. I was using a 13 Fishing Fate Black (the lime green). 7’4” Heavy/Fast. Would like to maybe go a couple inches shorter, but definitely don’t want anything over 7’4”. Price range is around $150 but might possibly consider spending a little more bc I throw frogs a lot. My top choice right now is the Dobyns FR735C or the 734C. Haven’t used a Dobyns before, but I’ve heard nothing but good things.
  2. I’ve been bank fishing a local pond with heavy duckweed on the surface. In the past two days I’ve had 20 bass blow up on my frog, but they all seem to be hitting right behind it and missing the lure. I’ve been rotating between the new 6th sense frog, a terminator popping frog, and a LiveTarget walking frog, going back and forth between black and white. Anyone have any suggestions or changes I could make to get these fish to commit?
  3. So I am using a 6'6" medium heavy fast rod with a 6:4;1 bait caster, 65# braid line while frog fishing. I am using a popper and walking frog, I am getting amazing and strong bites they take it under the surface yet for some reason I absolutely can not set the hooks. I have tried counting to two and pulling hard and I have tried crossing their eyes as soon as bite but no luck. I was using 20# fluorocarbon line and was able to get two to the bank with good hook sets. Any advice?
  4. Hey BR, Applied some things for typical post baits/patterns for this time frame here locally in Texas on a recent trip to Lake Fork. I broke it up in a couple videos that I recently posted to YouTube. Hope you like it! Goos fishing and thanks for watching - JN
  5. Hey BR, I got to spend some time over on Lake Fork the week before Easter and wanted to share the highlights from those trips. Good Fishing! JN
  6. Hit the water with FLW Tour pro Tyler Stewart and we got into them pretty good, so I put together this quick montage of our day. Hope your like it!
  7. Hey guys, just wanted to hear everyone’s thoughts on the new Bass pro Carbonlites, specifically the 7” and 7’6” Hvy., and if it would make a good froggin rod.
  8. Hey Guys, just wondering what everybody thinks about the Lews Laser MG’s and if they’re a good budget reel, also if it would be good for frog fishing
  9. Hey Guys, I’m looking at getting a rod for frog fishing but don’t want to go over $110. The two I’ve picked out is the Shimano Exage 7’2” or 7’6” Heavy not really sure, and a Dobyns Fury 735. I’m not sure which one to get, and the Dobyns is $10 more and I was wondering if it was worth it.
  10. Hey guys, I’m trying to decide what I should get for a froggin rod that’s under $150. The ones I’ve been looking at are the Dobyns 735, Favorite Phantom 7’4” Hvy, Powell Inferno 7’2” Mag Hvy, Abu Garcia Veritas 7’6” MH, Lew’s TP-1 7’3” H, Shimano Exage 7’6” H, and the St. Croix Bass X or Mojo 7’4”. I got a lot of rods I’m trying to decide between so I was hoping to get some opinions from people who have used these rods, and what y’all think is the best froggin rod
  11. Hey guys, recently I found out about this company called *** who makes what looks to be nice, inexpensive rods and reels. I haven’t found anything on how good their products are. I’d like to get your guys opinions on their products
  12. I have heard a lot about trimming one leg shorter than the other. Do all you "professional" frog fisherman recommend doing that, or just leaving them the same length?
  13. I just bought a new frog rod. It's a Lew's mach speed stick 7ft 4in, heavy power, fast action with 50lb power pro, but it has micro guides. Would that be a problem when frog fishing? I haven't fished with it yet, but it casts 50lb braid no problem.
  14. I'm pretty sure like many of you one of my favorite types of fishing to do in the summer is frog fishing. I'm curious to see what peoples opinions are on clear or transparent frogs and when and where would be the best times to use them. I just thought this could give some pointers to everyone being that I personally don't know when they should be used!
  15. Recently I bought a lunkerhunt pocket frog from an online retailer. I didn't realize how small it was until I received the shipment. I really am intrigued by the size but at 1/4 ounce it is difficult to cast any distance on a baitcaster (only reel I use). Does anyone know of a hollow body frog that is still smaller than a normal size frog but a little heavier to cast than the pocket frog? Thanks!
  16. what are your thoughts on jump frog type lures like these? unlike most topwaters they have heavy bodies with a slow sink rate so that they can plow through cover better than their soft bodied counterparts. they look like a buzzbait on the surface, spitting water everywhere. the mouths on them are flat, instead of cupped like a popper so they can "jump" out of the water a little bit when snapped hard enough. they originally created in Thailand by guys who were tired of having their soft buzz frogs chewed to death by snakehead. recently I purchased a few from MegaFrox USA and they have been producing very well. wherever I would ordinarily fish a buzz toad or weedless frog I've been using these and they've been producing pretty well!
  17. Im looking for a new rod to use for frogs. For a while I've been getting away with a 7 foot medium heavy with some braid for frog fishing. But now, im expanding my arsenal since ill be fishing tournaments this coming April through the summer. I've seen some heavy power rods rods for frogging that are rated for 1/2 oz up to 2 oz. But will those rods be able to throw a standard 3/8 oz hollow bodied frog? I know 3/8 weighs less than 1/2 so id like to make sure a rod with that rating will work. Please help!! Thanks alot!
  18. I have used mostly Booyah frogs and they work ok for me. I am looking into the livetarget Frogs and Snag Proofs Ish Phat Frog. What is your Favorite Frog?
  19. I am going to get a frog fishing set up and right now I am going to get a reel with 7:1:1 gear ratio paired with a medium heavy rod and 30 pound braid. Any things I should have different, thanks!
  20. Things have been slow at work recently and because of that, I managed to get half a day off on Tuesday. Heavy storms were predicted overnight, but it looked like they were going to move in a little early. Nevertheless, when I have an opportunity to fish, I'm going to take it haha. I headed out to hit up a lake I've got a tournament coming up on in a few weeks. When I got there it was mostly sunny and decided to start on some shallow isolated pad clumps. Things were slow at first. I couldn't get them to hit anything around some of the pads until i started in with ol' kermy. The slight breeze died out, and for whatever reason though, they didn't want to commit. They'd come up and attack it, take it down and you'd set the hook and there was no resistance. It was almost as if they were only grabbing it by the tail. After missing 7 that way I was frustrated so I went out and started fishing some deeper points and hooked into a decent fish. When I pulled up on a hump, I the weather changed again, the wind picked up a little and it had clouded over. You could see the storms building and could hear thunder rumbling in the background. I headed back closer to the ramp so I didn't get caught in anything sever, and started fishing in some heavy matted grass. I think I made a whole 3 casts before the first one blew up on it and I had it on for a bit before it pulled off. 0 for 8...yeesh that's a great way to start haha but I stuck with it and boy am I glad I did. In the next hour and a half I caught 18 fish on the frog and only lost 2. 2 of those 18 were almost an exact pair of twins both came in at 17". They both came off the same little spot, and I think they both went after my frog the first time I threw there because one came completely out of the water and jumped over it and there was the blowup on my frog at almost the exact same instant. Sometimes being persistent...cough cough stubborn, pays off and it was exactly one of those times. I had a blast before the storm rolled in and forced me to go home a happy man.
  21. Hello y'all, I have been fishing frogs since I started fishing although I am not a veteran fisherman. Lately I have been struggling catching bass on my frogs. I have many blow ups but.... the fish almost always miss the frog. Like in mid-air the frog will fall out of its mouth or the fish will completely miss it and the bass don't strike on the pause. PLEASE HELP!
  22. Do you guys think I could get away with using a medium action rod to fish frogs?
  23. Looking to get into frog fishing, and was wondering what you guys think are the bare essential styles/colors of frogs that I need to get started. Thanks.
