  1. Hi everyone, I recently broke my Googan Gold Muscle rod and am looking for a new rod for bass Anything under $200 is preferred I usually fish for Snakeheads and bass with frogs, swim jigs, and the occasional swim bait Another thing is a longer rod butt that’s split grip If you guys have any good suggestions please tell me
  2. I’ve been bank fishing a local pond with heavy duckweed on the surface. In the past two days I’ve had 20 bass blow up on my frog, but they all seem to be hitting right behind it and missing the lure. I’ve been rotating between the new 6th sense frog, a terminator popping frog, and a LiveTarget walking frog, going back and forth between black and white. Anyone have any suggestions or changes I could make to get these fish to commit?
  3. Looking at a custom frog rod that can either be 7' or 7'6" for a great price and opportunity. What would you guys lean towards? Really hoping to also throw some A rigs and larger swimbaits so the 7'6 looks good but it's rated for 1/2- 1 1/2 so might not toss a frog well and the extra length might make walking frogs uncomfortable. What rod would be more suited to the frog and what would be most versatile? Thanks!
  4. It’s time I need to buy myself a dedicated frog set up, but I’m debating whether to get a 6’6 or a 7’6 heavy rod, what’s the advantages or disadvantages to them?
  5. In Minnesota we have some real thick vegetation in the summer. As a bank fisherman at the moment (no boat or kayak), I am stuck fishing moving water with very sparse fish, or areas with lots of weeds. I caught my first two frog fish ever today and had a blast, but my Bantam+7ft MHF St Croix Premier combo is leaving my hand very tired and sore after two hours. The Premier is an alright rod, but I do feel like it is tip heavy, and it takes a lot of torque to twitch it. Funny enough, I caught my first one using my 6ft MF Premier which struggled a little pulling the fish through the weeds, but I managed! I know you don't need sensitivity for a frog rod, so I'm not looking to spend $200 on it because of that. However, I do want a lightweight rod that won't ruin my hands after only 1-2 hours, and you gotta pay for that weight savings. I was thinking possibly a 7ft HF Dobyns Champion XP (704 SH XP) but it is a little spendy if it is JUST a frog rod. I could use it for heavier jigs but my lures with trailer rarely exceed 1/2oz (with some 3/4oz topwater) so I don't really need a rod to handle heavy lures. My thinking is this. If I have to spend $150-250 to get nice light rod, I might as well try to make it somewhat cross-functional with other techniques. So, knowing I can pull fish through weeds using M-MH power... would it be acceptable to get something like a 6'9" MHXF Kistler H3 which would be used for jigs and spinnerbaits in addition to frogs? I would like to keep length to 7ft or slightly below, as since I am bank fishing, my clearance to the water is limited, I am sometimes surrounded by brush, and cast accuracy is important. I would pair the frog rod with my SLX to start since it is a lightweight reel, but I may step up the reel eventually. Thoughts and recommendations? Thanks!
  6. What’s an all around heavy rod for flipping, pitching, heavy cover punching, heavy cover in general, frog etc im considering a Daiwa SVF AGS XHeavy frog rod 7’4” thoughts? Reviews? Other consideration on a great rod even save good money or am I in the right ball park for that rod? I’m not a extreme fanatic fisherman where I need different rod for different setup. As long as I can cut and retie, I am fine.
  7. If you guys needed one rod for each of the three categories below, what would they be (in terms of power, action, glass/graphite, length, etc), and what do you use if you already have a rod that covers some? - Jig/Frog/ heavy cover rod -Spinnerbait/chatterbait/crank rod -topwater rod I'm curious as to what you guys use. I will be purchasing three rods to cover all these and want to see what others opinions are.
  8. I caught my new PB on a frog yesterday! No better way to catch a fish of any size much less your PB. She's no where near the biggest this forum has seen at only 5 lbs 3 oz (some of you guys catch these on the daily ?) but it's still exciting to break your PB. Casted my frog behind a little stick up in a grass pocket and she exploded on it!
  9. I recently got a Spro baby poppin frog. I took it out on the water today and it got a lot of attention! I got 9 or 10 blowup but not a single hookup! Any advice would be most welcome!
  10. How do you guys cut the legs on your frogs? Very short or leave them long? And what are the benefits of long or short legs?
  11. I've been frog fishing a lot recently, but the only frog I have is a booyah pad crasher Jr. I'm looking to upgrade soon, but I can't decide which one to get. Any suggestions? And are the LiveTarget frogs worth it? I fish a medium sized, shallow pond with a small amount of cover.
  12. This might be kind of lengthy but I need some help picking what line I should use. I have a medium light which I plan to use for creek swallies and finesse worm techniques, a medium power spinning rod which I don’t know what I’ll use that for, a medium power baitcaster which I wanna use for crankbaits, finesse jigs, light Texas rigs pretty much everything that’s not too heavy including topwaters, but here’s where I can’t decide, what I plan to use my medium heavy baitcasting setup for is good for fluorocarbon except I wanna be able to use a frog too and braid doesn’t go well with reaction baits from my understanding and jigs and heavier cranks and spinnerbaits. I would love some help on this .
  13. I'm looking for a frog/flipping n pitching rod and I have narrowed it down to two options. I like both the Powell Max 3d 736 and the Dobyns Sierra 735c but I'm not sure if they are good choices. Should I choose one of these rods or go with another option? I have a budget around $220 and want to stay in 7'3"-7'5" range.
  14. I spent the most part of last summer frogging. I'm by no means a pro but I've caught my share of bass on topwater frogs. Jump forward to this year. I'm still slaying em on frogs but the hook set is lacking. Recently I've noticed that the hook(s) aren't penetrating the fish but they're hooking the skin of the inside of the mouth. Because of this I'm having trouble getting the hook free without tearing up the skin in the fishes mouth. Do you think it's a hook set issue, a hook sharpness issue, or a timing issue? Suggestions?
  15. Hello I am new to this forum I recently started fishing about and love frog fishing I picked up a new lew super duty 7:1:1 reel and need to get a pole I would like it to be 7ft and suggestions would be great thanks
  16. I need a new frogging reel for this 2017 season, but I'm quite conflicted about what reel to get. Im looking for something in a 8.0:1 gear ratio or higher, and would also like to be able to bomb a frog a mile when need be. My price cap is $200, but preferably I want to stay around $150. So far I have considered the Curado XG, Lews BB1 pro, Daiwa tatula R, and the Abu Garcia REVO Rocket. I have a 200I curado and love the way it feels and casts, but I'm worried the spool capacity on the XG size is not enough. Any recommendations would be much appreciated.
  17. Im looking for a new rod to use for frogs. For a while I've been getting away with a 7 foot medium heavy with some braid for frog fishing. But now, im expanding my arsenal since ill be fishing tournaments this coming April through the summer. I've seen some heavy power rods rods for frogging that are rated for 1/2 oz up to 2 oz. But will those rods be able to throw a standard 3/8 oz hollow bodied frog? I know 3/8 weighs less than 1/2 so id like to make sure a rod with that rating will work. Please help!! Thanks alot!
  18. Hey all, I'm Chris and I live in Charlotte (Weddington) NC and have been cutting my teeth on local farm ponds and small lakes. I've become well versed in fishing weightless baits (senkos/flukes), Texas Rigs, Spinnerbaits, Carolina rigs and can fish most other mainstream techniques with good success. However, I can't seem to even get ONE BITE on the frog. I fish Spro, KVD Sexy Frogs, Booyahs, Livetargets etc. and modify them (trimming skirts, dots on belly, etc) but have had no success. I fish it on a 7'3 Duckett Ghost Heavy fast action rod with a Duckett 320 7.1:1 spoiled with 50 Lb braid. Have tried walking near weed edges, Skimming across surface, hopping, popping, and even letting it sit with minuscule "pulses" of the tip to make the skirt move ever so slightly. All of this and not one bite. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. Thanks in advance.
  19. I am looking for a cheap rod and i mean like 50 dollars ish. I received a free reel and it is the best reel I've ever owned actually and I want to throw it on a 7ft heavy action bait casting rod, unfortunately I can't afford much ( 50 dollars is a maybe but we will see) so I was wonder if anyone knows any place to get rods cheap. I know it probably will not be good quality but i have to deal with what I can get. Thank you in advance!
  20. ok so ive found a new pond to fish at, lots of weeds arund the edges so im hoping to get a few on frogs, only problem ive never caught i fish on a frog. ive tried before but never any luck, need some tips for working frogs.
  21. So I was fishing today with my booyah pad crasher in sun burnt color and I lost it and need to replace it. So I'm looking at one of three brands, another booyah pad crasher (did well before but on a lot of bites it seemed like the fish didn't commit), the strike King KVD frog, or a live target frog. Any advice and opinions?
  22. Hey everyone i was wondering if the color of a frog really mattered. I just started frog fishing last year and i have a few different sizes and colors the one i seem to have most luck on is a lunker hunter bullfrog color. So my question is does the color actually matter like ive seen some purple ones and some real unnatural looking ones. Is their a preferred color?
  23. I've been trying to fish with a frog and the problem I am having is almost every time a get a fish to react, it isn't taking it under water. It's as if if it hits it and then nothing. I am not feeling it in fast and I have tried letting the fish just sit after that happens and still nothing. No reaction after I twitch it or start moving it again. The other night this happened close to 10 times. So what are the fish trying to tell me?
  24. I found this frog hanging in a tree while I was bass fishing today. It has a rattle in it. Anybody know what brand it is? Just curious. All I've ever frogged with is Booyah frogs because I have such good luck with them. In case anybody wondered how I did fishing today, I caught 30 bass on my first Ned Rig outing! Pretty awesome.
  25. I'm would like to know what line I should put on my baitcaster, I primarily use soft plastic frogs and other soft plastics and I was wondering if flouro or braid is better for soft plastic topwater frogs(horny toads, rage toads etc.). And to get maximum distance. PLEASE HELP.
