  1. Which would you choose for an “all around cranking rod”? Fenwick Lunkerstik 7’3 MH/M OR Okuma EVX B cranking rod 7’ M/M-MF (I’ve heard they run heavy so I’m going down to the Medium)
  2. I'm looking to buy some rods and reels for ice fishing. Seeing as how I've never ice fished before I don't know how much thought I need to put into buying the "correct" rods and reels. Ideally I'd like about 3-4 rods each for different species or different applications. I really like Fenwick's regular rods so I think I'm going to buy rods from them. I've got a couple picked out for bass to trout to panfish. My question lies in reel selection. Do I have to consider gear ratios (retrieve speed) as much as I do in regular fishing reels. Like normally, if I'm flippin' and pitchin' in the summer I like a fast gear ratio for a quick retrieve, which provides the ability for rapid presentations. Seeing as ice fishing is essentially only vertical jigging, does gear ratio matter in the same regard? Is it based more on species? For example, if I'm fishing for trout would I need something that can reel faster in case they swim directly towards me, Vs. fishing for panfish where I might not need to bring in line as quickly? Does gear ratio even matter? What brands are good and reliable? Geek out, the more detailed and opinionated reply you can give, the better!
  3. Just picked up a Pflueger Supreme XT 30 and now need a sweet rod to go with it. Rod will primarily be use for DS with the occasional grub or ned rig thrown on it. I have narrowed it down to 2 rods: Fenwick Elite Tech 6'10 ML/XF for $135 or Phenix M1 6'9 L/F for $153. I also had the *** Muse Gold ML/F as a possibility, but since more than 1/2 my rods and baitcasting reels are ***, I figured I would try something new. In regards to the Phenix, my only worry was the L/F being too soft as I have heard Phenix rod are a little below their stated rating. For people who have used the Phenix rods, would I be better off going with 7'2 M/XF and it would act more like a ML? This rod doesn't have a "ton" of info about it online so figured I would ask here. As for the Fenwick, I have heard alot of great things about it and think it would fit the bill if I go that route. PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD... Stay on topic in responses, I don't care about your $500 Gloomis rod or how good your StC Legend rod is... I'm only concerned with the rods listed above. (I know how you guys get in threads like these , lol) I thought about adding Dobyns to this list, however I've heard the Phenix M1 line beat out anything below the Champion Extreme price point, (of course this is subjective) Even though I could get 30% off, the standard Champion would be as high as I could go at this moment.
  4. I have a Fenwick Aetos, the previous model, I purchased a couple of them when they were on sale. The rods have been great and I have been more than pleased with them. However two days ago I removed the reel and was cleaning up one of them. As I went to snug the reel in place the piece of cork covering the nut that holds the reel in its seat crumbled. I say crumbled as it is what it felt like. It is just cosmetic damage and in no way hurts the rod other than appearance. It's actually cracked the cork and I really am not sure if it will fall off or what at this point. I gently set it aside while I debate on what to do. I knew it was under warranty as the rod was only 6 months old so I went to Fenwick website to see the process. https://www.fenwickfishing.com/Fenwick-warranty.html I did as step one says and sent a email to them with the information requested. I also included the message below, an electronic copy of the receipt, and several pictures of the damage. The next day I recieved a email back that was as generic as a automated response can be asking for me to do exactly what I had just sent them. Literally a copy of their warranty claim page. So I replied back Then I get this but it also included the step by step instructions, addresses to ship to, and my Reference number – VOC # So here I am now with a rod under warranty that has cosmetic damage that to me was a random defect in the cork or glue or whatever that will make my rod look like ____. And my options are: Keep the 6 month old rod and let it look like ____ Spend roughly $20 ship the rod to them on a chance they may warranty it and I get the nice looks back for $20 Spend the roughly $20 ship the rod to them on a chance they say I damaged the rod. In this case I will not get my rod back, nor my $20, and in their words I will "receive a generous discount towards a new comparable non-warranty replacement rod". That sounds so good knowing I will be out more money on a warrantied rod to get a rod with no warranty and I paid part of the shipping. Or I just paid $20 to give my rod away if I do not want to spend more money on another rod that will have zero warranty. Who in their right mind puts customers in this position? What would you do? I seriously don't want a ugly rod (that piece is literally hanging by a thread), but I don't want to pay to literally give them my rod and end up with nothing either. If they were to decline the warranty I sure wouldn't want to send them any more money for another one of their rods with zero warranty. So what do you do?
  5. Anyone have any experience with Fenwick's customer service? I love their rods and my whole arsenal is Daiwa reels and Fenwick rods. Was out fishing with my dad earlier this week and he stepped on and bent my 7'6" HMX punching rod's eyelet. I slowly and carefully bent the eyelet back straight and the resin cracked. The eyelet is now straight but the resin holding it to the rod has a fracture in it. The rod is fine but after all, it is my punching/frog rod that sees the most abuse and I would really like to get it fixed/replaced. Does anyone have any experience with Fenwick's customer service? I bought the rod from Gander Mountain only a few months ago and have the receipt.
  6. THANKS! for recent advice on making the choice between St Croix Avid and Dobyns Champion casting rods I have a new Dobyns 733 due to arrive today. That's only small solace however, because while fishing this morning I broke one of my favorite spinning rods that I also bought on advice from this forum several years ago. It's a Fenwick Techna AV 7' MH and I broke about the last 6 inches off the rod while battling a 3 pound bass. I think it happened while bringing the fish to the net with the rod held up high and straight; however, I can't be sure of the exact moment because I didn't notice it broken until I was ready to start fishing again. My question is, does anyone know if Fenwick has a replacement policy similar to the St Croix where for a standard fee they will replace the rod with an equivalent? If so, does anyone have contact information for them? Thanks!
  7. hey guys, im kinda stuck right now. So i just bought a brand new shimano ci4+ 3000, and i need a nice drop shot rod to compliment it, im stuck between the dobyns sierra, dobyns savvy, shimano crucial, or if i find one in time a fenwick elite tech smallmouth. i preferably want a ml action with a extra fast tip for drop shots and shakeyheads and would like it to be really sensitive. i own a dobyns fury and very much like it but i have never used a savvy or sierra. any advice or other rod suggetions under 200$ would be great, thanks!
  8. Hey BR, What is a good UL spinning rod and a good UL spinning reel for panfish(smaller bass included)? Thanks, Big Fish Small Pond
  9. So i was browsing the TW website and noticed new Aetos rods by Fenwick I really like the blank through design of the spinning seat they use. I've been looking for a seat like this for a while. http://img.tacklewarehouse.com/watermark/rs.php?path=FEST-1.jpg&nw=760 Anyone know if it or anything similar is available?
  10. Hey BR, What rods are you guys pairing your Pflueger President 6930 Spinning Reels with? Also, what rods are you guys pairing your Shimano Stradic 2500 Spinning Reels with? Thanks, Big Fish Small Pond
  11. I've purchased two Aetos rods lately, both having the same listed weight rating. My 6"6 (2 piece), Medium Fast rod is listed on their site as 1/4-3/8, but the rod actually says "1/8-3/4" Conversely, my 6'8", Medium Heavy, extra fast action rod also is listed as 1/4-3/8 on their site, and actually has that rating printed on it. This cannot be right, right? It's substantially beefier than the Medium rod, so I feel it has to be in error.
  12. Has anyone used the Fenwick aetos 7'0 medium moderate bait casting rod? Lure rating 1/4 - 5/8? If so, how does it preform and what can it handle well, and not so well? Thanks! Any feedback is appreciated!
  13. Hi guys, This is my first post on here! A very exciting day for me since I've been using the site a lot before this and never being able to contribute. Anyways, I am 15 and jobless and looking for a spinning rod I can chuck some senkos on this summer. Preferably in the 40-60 ish price range, although some slight exceptions could be made. Also, the length and action should be about 6'6-7'0 and med extra fast. Some rods I have been looking at have been the Shimano Sellus, Fenwick Eagle and HMX, Berkley Lightning shock, and some BPS rods. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks, and have a good day -Justen
  14. I'm getting the Fenwick HMG for my Shimano Stradic 2500, and I'm going to be getting it in the 6' 6" length. Now I fish senkos a lot and drop shots. I usually thow spinnerbaits on my baitcast but I sometimes like to throw spinnerbaits and light jigs with a spinning rod. I've never tested the stiffness in an HMG and for those purposes should I go with the M or MH? I sometimes fish deep (15+ feet).
  15. Need a new spinning rod. Fenwick rods look really nice but I've only ever owned st Croix. Any opinions? It would be for finesse fishing
  16. What would be the best overall rod and reel, purchased seperately, to make a Spinning combo for under $200?
  17. What would be the best overall rod and reel, purchased seperately, to make a baitcasting combo for under $200?
  18. Hey bassresource community, new to the forum posting topics wise, however I have gleamed quite a bit already from different discussions viewable on these forums. I will be in the market for a couple new mid-level and in some cases low-level(St. Croix, G. Loomis, Fenwick, etc.) rod and reel set-ups for next season. I am not trying to use these rods with a particular type of bait, however, what I am looking for is overall versatilty. Since I will be waiting for the obligatory Black Friday and corresponding Cyber Monday sales, I have decided to receive invaluable input from those of you on these forums that harness much more fishing knowledge than myself. The Rods sizes and action I am leaning towards are as follows: Casting Rod 7' M F Casting Rod 7' MH XF Spinning Rod 6'6"-7'2" M F-XF Spinning Rod 7' M F Also, a baitcaster reel to go along with each casting rod and spinning reels to match with the spinning rods. These sizes and action are not written in stone, it just seems to be a decent start from what I have come to understand as versatile rod characteristics. I am open to any advice given my way on this topic. Tight Lines Guys
  19. Anyone try these out, I'm looking at some more high end rods. Wondering if these are worth the price especially when it comes to sensitivity and weight. I also hear the new HMG is pretty good as well. I never hear too many bad things about Fenwick, the only one I've been able to handle is the HMX, but I think I want something better than that. Thanks
  20. I just picked one of these up at a Cabelas here in Columbus that just opened. Got the 6'6" M/F for wade fishing in a local river. The rod feels great with the Quantum PT reel I mounted in store, so I figured I would take a chance. I was keen to take a look at the Elite Tech Smallmouth rods but felt that they're were out of my price range. These are on sale currently for $59.......a STEAL for that price!!!!! Fuji ESC reel seat, Alconite guides and a 30 ton blank.......for less than $100 are you kidding me! I will be sure to post some sort of review after I actually get to the river once it warms up.
  21. I am a economically challenged angler trying to get the most bang for my fishing buck. I have had some lightning rods from Berkley and they were fine until I picked up a BPS graphite Series (IM6) for about the same denaro. This has given me the grass in greener syndrome, so I started looking at Fenwick. They have some IM6 Eagle GT's for just a fist full of dollars more. Is there any gain here, or am I just paying for the cool eagle? I am also considering a Vengence from Abu-Garcia. Either way, I am looking $50, which in a BPS, would take me to a Tourney Special (IM7). I really can't put more than about $50 bucks into a rod right now.
