  1. Hey guys, I am looking to get a versatile rod tailored towards smaller hard and soft baits. I would be looking for something that can throw jerkbaits, smaller worms, shaky heads, small lipless and topwaters, etc. kinda like a “jack of all trades” for smaller baits. I am trying to decide between a G Loomis GLX 842c MBR and a Shimano Expride 6’10” medium. I have heard a few things about the reel seat on the GLX being a problem, some people even saying it made them sell the rod. I have fairly large and long hands and will most likely pair the rod up with a 50-100 size reel. Wanted to see if anyone owned either of these rods and what baits they typically use on them. Thanks guys, looking forward to hearing from you!
  2. Hey guys. So, I've read a lot about the Expride models, and finally ordered one. As you know, they're tough to find in stock, but managed to get a 6'10 ML on tacklewarehouse. I planned on using this rod for light dropshotting and ned rigs, but have came across info suggesting this model is pretty much dropshot specific. It's listed as a fast action rod but heard it's more of a moderate. I've heard guys say they've used the 7' Light+ . Curious if anyone has opinions on using the 6'10 ML with 1/20 - 1/10 oz neds? Thanks! P.S. First post here. Thankful for everyone's input and the info shared on this site. Also figured I should mention I'll be pairing it with a Stratic FL 2500 with 10 lb braid to 6-8 lb fluoro Also figured I should mention I'll be pairing it with a Stradic FL 2500 with 10 lb braid to 6-8 lb fluoro
  3. Looking at possibly picking up my first Expride tomorrow on Black Friday. Something for 1/4 oz and 3/8 oz jigs, maybe 1/2 every once in a while, but I'm not worried about that. I was looking at the 7'2 MH because I feel like for most companies that would be the right pick, but the Expride's lure rating is 3/8-1 oz. Where as I feel like most MHs are 1/4-3/4 or 1. Would the Expride be too overpowered for 1/4 oz jigs? I fish around a lot of grass so I feel any extra power wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
  4. Hi all, I went to a retailer to look at a couple of Shimano Expride rods and feel them in my hands. Very impressed. Unfortunately, they didn't have the exact model that I was looking for (EX172MHGA), but did have enough other models for me to get a feel for some rods that would be very close. A few things that I found that were odd. The model numbers were not exactly as listed on Shimano's website. For example, I found a 7'6 MH rod and on the rod it was shown as: 176MH rather than what Shimano's website and other tackle websites show as EX176MHA. The other specifications appeared to line up: 3/8-1oz line 10-20lb CODE No. 38106 (if that matters) I found a video online where someone compared the previous JDM and new Expride A's and two obvious differences that were noted were: shiny vs. matte finish on the reel seat larger vs. smaller cork just above the reel seat Additionally, I found a website listing all of the Expride models and the previous JDM 176MH was noted as 2 pieces (I believe this was just the handle) and for 3/8 to 1 1/16oz baits... Based on that I believe I was holding an Expride A, but why would Shimano not use at least the 176MHA to identify the Expride A? Another thing that I found slightly unusual - none of these rods listed the actions on the actual rod. Not a big issue, but not something that I am used to. Thanks.
  5. I broke the tip portion of my very best/favorite 2 piece casting rod ( Shimano Expride 172H-2) The base/handle portion is fine, but the tip is shattered into multiple pieces. Anyone have advice for how to just get the tip section from Shimano elsewhere or am I going to have to pay for a complete new rod...??? Any help, advice or direction would be greatly appreciated
