  1. What’s your opinions on the Diawa Tatula CT? I’ve heard many good things about it, but i just realized that they made a new one and that’s why there’s two that’s named the same thing, I like the look of the old one more except the handle knobs and cap, but is there anything different about the two/ one better than the other? Or any other reels in the 130 price range that’s good? (planning on buying one with a dobyns fury)
  2. Looking for a nice set of reels - believe in having a matched set - need recommendations. For years, I was using Quantum PT reels - I lost a few at the lake and also broke one and then the search begain about 3 years ago to find replacement set. Of course, I tried Quantum Smoke - they are great, just a bit disappointed in the feel of the thumb trigger - feels cheap with a line in the plastic casting. The spinning reels just didn't have same quality of the older PTs. So, I tried Diawa last year - and frankly the spinning reels Feugo - lots of line twist and tangles - not sure - maybe its me. But, not a fan of handles. End of this year I bought just two Lews reels - one Custom Speed Spin Spinning reel S200 and a Custom Speed Spool Casting reel CG1H. I love the feel of the baitcaster, but the spinning reel is very heavy feeling. So, help me choose....tell me why you use the brand you do now and what has good product in the 200 dollar price range for the reel. I don't really want to spend more - with 14 rigs usually in my setup it gets expensive quick. Rods - I am on a similar search - but narrowing that down to St. Croix Premier. But, I have to say the Lews Speed Stick LITE is impressive for the price point. My goal ultimately is to have a set of rods and reels with a similar feel and function - I am a firm believer when I was at the top of my game - I had a matched set and it matters! The last 3 years have been tough fishing for me and although I know its me more than the equipment; I want to rule that out. Going from being a State Qualifier to one of the worst locally is humbling. I know time on the water will make more difference than rods/reels - but want to get back to that confidence I had with Quantum Reels and Falcom rods (sure wish they still sold the old style Cara rods!). Any suggestions and let me know what you use woudl help - I don't want a Ford Chevy thing - but honest feedback on my current choice Lews and something other to consider.
  3. Hi Everyone, Just received my first Diawa Tatula CT with Magforce-Z. The instructions show to operate the Magforce you are supposed to loosen the screw to adjust the Magforce level. I am able to turn it without loosening the screw. Is this something I should not do or is it fine? I just do not want to be messing up something internally. Also, what rod would you suggest around the $100 (give or take) mark to pair this with? Thanks!
  4. Which one is better for light drop shot fishing. Im looking for a smooth drag and smooth retrieve
  5. I’ve been looking to buy a new rod for jigs/frogs and things of that sort. I decided I want a 7.4 foot heavy action rod, and I’ve been looking at the Diawa Tatula rod, or Favorite Phantom rod. Both are around $150. I was wondering which is the two is better or recommendations of other rods in that price range. Thanks
  6. I am about to buy a reel for deep cranking (max ~12'). My choices are an Orra Winch, Tatula 100p and an Okuma Citrix. I ONLY own Shimano so these reels all feel like a risk to me. Tactical bassin raves about the Abu so I'm leaning. But I want to hear your experiences with these reels please.
  7. What is everyone's thoughts on the Diawa Tatula CT, I have had one for a short time and was thinking of switching to them exclusively. But was wondering of the long term durablity of them. Let me know you opinions and alternatives in the same price range
  8. So I'm looking for a new braided fishing line and I have used Daiwa line and have had multiple problems and I've also used power pro which I've also had problems with. So I need help on deciding a good braided fishing line these were I few I was looking at. •seaguar smackdown/flipping •suffix 832 •p line tcb braid
  9. I'm in the market to pick up a new reel and I'm stuck between the ardent apex pro and the Diawa Tatula CT. I've heard some good things about both and I'm stuck in the middle. What are pros and cons to both? Why should I get one over the other? Some help would be appreciated, thanks.
  10. Just wanted to see if anybody had an opinion on this reel and if it is any good.
  11. So my thoughts on the quality of the new equipment I have been exposed to over the past few months vs what was out there 30 years ago is this: Even the least expensive baitcasting reels by Abu Garcia are much easier to use than the highest end equipment back in when I fished with my father. Basically all you had was a tension nob and thats it even the free spool buttons were on the side so if you had every thing backed off it was a two handed motion to start the cast. Learning to use a baitcaster back then took quite a bit of effort and time. That is just to not backlash anytime you made a cast, now you can almost tune my new Shimano Curado I to cast without any thumb control. Its not the most accurate way to do it and you have to be smooth but I played around with it and an an old Bantam. I think the Lews V Spool was one of the first reels that had any kind of breaking. I am astounded with the smothness of even my Abu Black Max which is just about as cheap of a reel as you can get these days. I have always prefered Abu and Shimano reels. Probably the reel I am most disapointed with is my Diawa Lexa and that is is just because of its initial MSRP. I think a real at above $100 should have dual braking these days, maybe that is why TW and Gander Mountain have the reel on sale now for $69.99 which is what I paid. The lines of today are shockingly sensative as are the rods, I have a $50.00 Shimano Clarus casting rod that is worth every penny of the original MSRP and I can feel so much sensation with it I am actually really confused about what I am feeling and spend more time working out whats what than actually fishing at this point. That is to me the allure of fishing for Bass learing and refining techniques. I think by the time in a few months when I can cast my reels with the right settings and hit a paper cup with a jig from the other side of the world 95 out 100 times its going to be a blast. Not sure if this post makes sense, I was just kind of thinking of all the differences from the last 30 years and they are as astounding in fishing as they are in comparing my old Apple desktop 30 years ago to my iPad today.
  12. I need a few rods, just getting back into fishing and my 30 year old Fenwicks don't seem like a good idea. Does anyone have any experience with these rods?
  13. Hey guys, I seen some of these cheaper Diawa rods recently when browsing the various rods and reels available and I have to say that they seemed to be surprising good quality especially considering the cheap price point. Basically, has anybody had experience with these spinning rods, be it good or bad, and how was it?
  14. How is the Diawa Tatula as an overall casting rig? My father seen the rod and really seemed to like it, however it is made of material different from most rods.
  15. I'm looking for a new crankbait reel and I want something with a 5:1 ratio. I basically have my mind set on the Shimano Chronarch 201e5, but I wanted to know if anyone knew of any other reel out there that's a better choice. Keep in mind, I need something left handed. Thanks everyone.
  16. I was wondering if anyone has ever used the Diawa Laguna spinning rod. I bought one for my dad a couple of weeks ago and I plan to give it to him for his birthday tomorrow. It feels pretty light and seems to have a pretty good action but I'm worried about how good it will be considering it was only twenty bucks. I bought it for him because I didn't have the money for anything else and he bought a spinning reel not long ago and didn't have a rod to put it on so he put it on a casting rod. Did I make a good choice or should I have gotten him something else for the money?
