  1. I’m needing some help determining what the problem is with my unit. I have 2 helix 7 si chirp gps g2 units. My unit at my console was working fine then I put a Terrova on my boat and had to add a third battery. I’m not sure if there is electrical noise in the power to my unit or what’s going on but the unit started showing junk in the first ten feet of my down imaging. If I speed up to like 5mph it will go away, but if I slow down then the junk re appears. I thought the transducer was messed up so I swapped them out with the transducer on my other unit that I had and it shows the same thing. I thought the electrical noise was in my transducer so I put my boat in the water and plugged my spare transducer in, ran the wire on the deck instead of running it beside all the other wires to eliminate any noise, and put that transducer right beside the mounted transducer and it showed this same thing. I’ve called humminbird, they haven’t helped me. They aren’t sure. I have the most updated software and that didn’t help. If anyone has any idea what could be going on and has any suggestions please let me know, it will be much appreciated!!
  2. Hey BR, looking for a depth finder for my kayak (12 ft Manta Ray) and was curious what opinions you guys had for something relatively user friendly but effective. I've read good reports about the Garmin Chirp but wanted to know what you guys think. Thanks!
  3. Hey all, New poster here - hope this is the right place to post. I have a 2 - Lowrance HDS 7 in my boat. I am losing the depth display when in rough water. It used to act up at speed as well. I have swapped them around so I'm fairly positive it's in the transducer. Any ideas?
  4. Hi all, I'm new to the drop shot technique and am doing the necessary research to become more familiar in advance of a late August fishing trip. It seems that (almost) everyone uses a depth/fish finder when drop shotting for largemouth, which makes sense to me. I don't have a depth/fish finder and will be fishing on a 200 acre lake in Connecticut with clear to stained water color quality (no gas powered engines are allowed) and about 80% of water is between 5-8 feet deep, but there's a 3 acre section of the lake that's 20 feet deep. Is it worth drop shot fishing without the depth/fish finder? And if so, what do I need to do to be successful? Thanks!
  5. Just bought myself a Nitro NX 882 2000 18'2''. It has no electronics on it. I want to know what would be the best setup under 2500$, trolling motor mount and consol mount, Where should I put the best one with Side imaging? I cant afford two units with side imaging so... ? Humminbird? Lowrance? what do you guys think??
  6. Hey Guys and Gals, I purchased a Hummingbird 570 DI and am pretty impressed but I feel like maybe my settings could be tweaked to gain some better results. If someone has something similar and understands all of the settings, could you take a look at my settings and let me know if there is somewhere I could do something better? 1st menu: Sensitivity: 10 out of 1-20 Lower Range: Auto Chart Speed: 8 Bottom View: Structure ID <---set here White Line Bottom Black Inverse 2nd menu (sonar) Beam Select: 455khz (highest setting) Imaging Frequency: 800khz Structure Clutter: 5 out of 1-10 Switch Fire: Max Mode Fish ID +: On Fish ID Sensitivity: 8 out of 1-10 RTS Window: Wide Zoom Width: Wide I understand depth has a lot to do with the settings, so just as an FYI, the deepest I have fished is 32' with it and will probably never see 50'. Always freshwater, always Bass. Thanks for all the help.
  7. Hey Y'all I fish smallies on a small lake. It becomes difficult when it is very hot in the middle of the day and I don't have a depth finder to find good deep water structure or bait fish. Any tips?
  8. Hey all, I already have a nice dash mounted Hummingbird 597ci HD unit which I do like. The high def is nice and the GPS is essential. I'm lacking a depth finder on the bow however. I'm looking for recommendations for a unit I should install. My budget is about $500.00 or less. I'm guessing GPS is not necessary since I have it already on my dash mounted unit. I do want a color screen though. Thanks!!
