  1. I was thinking about trying my hand at deep cranking this summer with 6XDs and DD22s (maybe even something a little deeper like an 8XD). I was considering a Curado 7'8" MH/Mod glass rod since I've found a place where they're on sale for $100. Would that rod work for this application? Does anyone have any experience with this rod? I'm willing to spend $200 if that's what it takes to get a good deep cranking rod, but since I don't know if it will be my cup of tea, cheaper options would be attractive. Thanks.
  2. Hey BR, Just finished up a video that is seasonally appropriate: Bass Fishing with Crankbaits in the fall - Overview Hope you all like it and Thank You for watching! James N.
  3. When deep cranking everyone says it’s important that have a lot line capacity because a long cast is necessary to get the crankbait to its deepest depth. What is a good cut off as far as line capacity? Would 150 yards of 12# line be enough or is more capacity needed?
  4. I'm looking for a recommendation for a 5:1 reel for deep cranking. I have an Orra Winch and Tatula CT but I'm looking for something a little more refined. What do you guys use?
  5. Ok - so I searched the forums for this - because I know this type of question has probably been asked 100 different times, but I couldn't find anything related to what I'm looking for - and with the summertime here - and the need to go deeper is apparent - I decided to ask this question anyway. Is there an all around cranking rod - that works for shallow and deep cranking applications? I had 6'6" medium action rod that was my cranking rod, and I lost the setup due to an unfortunate incident on the water yesterday - rod, reel, lure and all. So in my quest to replace said equipment, it brought me to wonder about the "hybrid" rod. I am not that experienced in deep cranking - but am reading a MH 7'6" rod is about where I would want to start looking - that seems too heavy for a shallow cranking rod. Is this true? Thanks for any input offered.
  6. Money is not the deciding factor here, but looking for anyone who's fished a 4.7:1 PQ with deep running cranks. I'd really like to have the slower speed for cranking deep for walleye. I like the big handle on the Winch also, but its only 5.4:1. Maybe not a huge difference, but with walleye where I fish, it may be. I dont want the PQ if I'm going to have to sacrifice smoothness. I know I'll already be adding 2.5 ounces if I go with the PQ. Wondering what people think would be better for cranks that run 8-16 feet?
