  1. Hi BR, Here is a video that centers about what I would pack into a Fall Bass Fishing Box. 3 baits for Deep and 3 Baits for Shallow to simplify things during what could be one of the top times for Junk fish. Hope you like it! JN
  2. I was wondering if when using a wacky rig in deeper water if i need to keep the bail open and let line out or if i can just close it as soon as it hits the water like normal. Sorry if this is a stupid question but im just curious as i have gotten fish in deeper water but at that time i was just letting sit at the bottom like live bait and now i cast it and watch slack to see if fish starts running with it
  3. I don’t know if any one else has the problem I do I am good at bank fishing and shallow fishing i live in Huntington Texas about ten miles from lake Sam Rayburn one of the biggest lakes in Texas but i fish it all the time how ever I don’t really know how to fish in deep water and target big fish also there is only large mouth in the lake so if anyone has any info on what baits I could use and what I need to do to successfully fish deep.
  4. Hello and thank you in advance for the help, I always seem to get it here. I want to learn to fish from the bank more. I did have a jon boat and was getting off the bank, but that is no longer an option. So until I buy a kayak I am stranded on land. So I was wondering how I can fish deeper from the shore, I see people cast to the middle of the pond / lake, and I have never seen success in that. I have always seen bass a shallow water fish even though I know that is not the case. I have been fishing large ponds small lakes, whatever you might call it. I fish the banks for hours with every bait I have and there is little to no luck, So how should I go about fishing deeper and just chucking a lure into the middle. I think it will be hard to do that without having any clue what is on the bottom.
  5. I bass fish primarily in farm ponds and detention dams in Kansas, and typically use shallow cranks, lipless, and spinnerbaits. With summer here, I want to try deep cranking, but it's a technique I've never done. Depth is usually 7 to 20 feet in the areas I'd do this at. Water is stained, but not muddy most of the time, but can be clear or muddy on occasion. What lures would you use, and what colors? There is perch, crawdads, gizzard shad, and baby bass for the natural forage.
  6. My bass club is wanting to have our annual classic tournament on pickwick August 12 out of Waterloo boat ramp. I've never fished pickwick or any Tennessee River lake for that matter. I've never really fished a ledge I usually pound tree tops or boat docks on my local lake to get decent keepers. I see the length limit is 15 inches on large and smallmouth and I think if I can get 5 measuring fish and maybe a decent kicker we can win. Is there anywhere in that area someone can point me to that'll help. Our boundary is kroeger island to state line island if that helps any. Any help will be greatly appreciated
  7. I am looking for a good rod to use with deep crankbaits. I currently have a 7'3" Abu Garcia Villian Casting Rod with heavy power and fast action and a 7'0" BPS JM CarbonLite Casting Rod with medium heavy power and fast action. I just saw on sale a 6'6" Quantum Team KVD Casting Rod with medium heavy power and fast action and a 7'4" Quantum Team KVD Casting Rod with magnum heavy power and moderate power, both described as having lightweight graphite and fiberglass construction and hefty backbone to deliver a true parabolic bend. I was also looking at cranking rod from the Duckett Ghost Series. Which of those five rods is better to use with deep crankbait? Any other rods better for deep crankbaits at around $100 or below?
  8. Hey guys, my family owns a cottage on a small lake. The dam on the lake broke during hurricane sandy, but now that it is filled in again with a new dam, I'd like to put some cover in to help promote fish growth and spawning success and so on... you get it. I know that the time to do it would have been when it was high and dry, but I couldn't find a time to do it. I'm Thinking of making some concrete and PVC "xmas trees" and sinking them in various places, but I'd like some input as to where those places should be. Also, I've thought about putting down some sort of pea gravel in places... would this make a good spawning spot? Any suggestions are welcome, Thanks! I've included two pictures below.. one of the lake with no water and one with it full, although the name is blanked out... for obvious reasons
  9. when you are breaking down a map how msny spots will you mark? is it dependant on lake size or what you think will hold fish? i typically dont use topo maps as there is only a few spots to fish deep (15+) on the 2 lakes close to me and ive fished the lakes numerous times... but the lake im looking at is a powerplant lake ive never fished of about 2500 acres with an average depth of 18 and max depth around 45... ive started breaking the map down by main lake, and each arm and coves. i have about 30 spots marked that i would like to check out over time as i fish it... also ive searched and read multiple forums and watched videos about breaking them down. any good videos youd recommend?? thanks
  10. Hey ya'll! I was just wondering how I could find fish when I'm fishing from my boy, or more or less where I should be fishing. I have a small job boat and can't really troll so I was wondering what spots I should look for to stop and how long I should spend at a spot. The lakes I fish have cover hanging in the water everywhere and it's not resonance to fish them all on a small trolling motor and stopping all the time and dropping anchor. So what should I look for? Also I know it doesn't apply as much this time of year but does anyone have tips on fishing deep without a depth finder? Thanks in advance!
  11. I have a tournament coming up this weekend. I haven't had a lot of success in practice but I have seen huge groups of spotted bass in 40 feet of water. They are anywhere from the bottom to about 10 feet off bottom. The water temperature is around 48. I've thrown a lot of different things at them and no luck. Any ideas on what to do? Keep in mind the water clarity is always stained on the Alabama River. Current is normally from 10pm to 8am then no current the rest of the day.
  12. Yet again, it'll give new users as well as some of the old vets a way to learn and 'teach' through their opinions The second installment will be on CRANKBAITS and your thoughts. Questions to Consider: What is your favorite crankbait? (who makes it, price, where you bought, color?) Under what circumstances will you throw any type of crankbait? How do you determine what color crankbait to use? What factors tie in for you? How do you set the hook when you know you've got a fish on? Are there any crankbaits that you've tried that you do NOT suggest? What techniques do you use for your selected crank? Name a good squarebill and in what situations to throw it! NOTE: QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER ARE QUESTIONS YOU CAN USE IN YOUR ANSWER TO SHED LIGHT AND MORE DETAIL TO YOUR THOUGHT PROCESS FOR THOSE WHO AREN'T VERY "KNOWLEDGEABLE" ON THE SPECIFIC TOPIC. NOTE: After all the topics are covered, I'll take a vote and see if any of the same lures were mentioned more than once and we'll get a community consensus. Could be interesting to see!
  13. My buddy recently showed a video to me about deep crankin' hosted by David Dudley. It totally changed my view on deep crankin' and the rod I should select to crank deep for hogs. Ive noticed a few other guys on here like to use Medium-Heavy rods to deep crank, but I own a 7' Heavy power Fast action Duckett Micro Magic and was wondering if it would work just as well. I can't afford to go out and buy a new rod just for this technique, because I am saving up for my first spinning set up for a tournament I am going to be fishing in May. If you guys could just give me some opinions on this deep crankin' theory that would be awesome. I would also like to hear if y'all agree with me using a Heavy power rod instead of a Medium-Heavy. Anyone out there will tell you a Duckett rod has extremely fast action, that is why I believe my Heavy power Duckett will work. Thanks, TCN P.S. Heres the video if your interested-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0hacikQwoc if that doesn't work just search "David Dudley Deep Cranking" on youtube and you should find it pretty easy.
  14. Hey guys, I've got a pond I fish in a neighborhood near here. It's in a small neighborhood. It usually produces pretty nice fish and it is a fun place to go on the days I can't make it to the lake. It's got (as far as I know) only bass and bluegill in it, that's all I've ever caught out of there and all I ever see. Since the post-spawn dog days of summer, the fishing has quite literally completely come to a halt. Where I used to be able to successfully throw about anything during spawn and just after spawn, now it doesn't seem to matter what I throw, nothing bites, literally nothing. I've tried everything the forums and articles on this site recommend. I've tried topwater at dawn and dusk, and kept the fishing slow and deep during the day. I've tried varying retrieve speeds. I've experimented with every color in my box. I've tried rattles, non rattles, shiny, deep diving, shallow running, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, cranks, swimbaits, weedless frogs, finesse worms, jigging, swim jigs, senko worms, wacky rigs, carolina rigged, texas rigged, even scent vs no scent, quite literally EVERTHING in my tackle box/bag system. There seems to be nothing that will trigger a strike of any kind. As you can see below, it's not a large pond. The middle island is about 150x150 feet. There is a small bridge at the top of the island with about 6 pilings in the water. Fishing around these isn't any more fruitful than anywhere else. The two small white dots in the middle of the water are fountains. I've tried fishing as close to them as I can get without actually hooking the fountain itself......nothing. Around the edge are some very small groups of weeds, the water there is about a foot deep. In the spring they're a hotspot, but now they seem to be void of life. The overall depth according to a resident who moved in before the pond was dug some 17 years ago says the water isn't any more than about 10 feet deep in the deepest part. It's relatively clear but not so much that I'd consider water clarity a hinderance. Those "pointy" pockets at each corner are pretty shallow and you can usually see the smallest bluegill in there meddling around, but I've never caught a single bass out of those corners. So guys, here I am, ready for all of the wisdom you can dish. I can't catch fish here, and with my wife about to have a baby, this is about the closest spot to me that I might be able to break away for a quick line in the water when things at home slow down. Here's an aerial picture of the pond attached.....help!!!
  15. I'm getting into crankbait fishing and i need to know when to use a lipless crank rather than a regular crank. What time of the year is the best, what kind of conditions, where to fish, how to fish. Everything i need to know.
  16. My favorite lake to fish is a very deep, clear water lake with an abundance of hydrilla. For those of you that fish similar waters, how do you decide what depth to target? Thanks in advance, Paul.
  17. Any one have any tips for fishing Lake Guntersville during the warm summer months? I was thinking crankbaits, carolina rigs, and football jigs around deep structure. But what about fishing weedlines?
