  1. Hello peeps, I just bought a new jerkbait rod and settled on a Dobyns kayden 610-4cb the struggle now is I need a reel, I was torn between A curado k and a 13 fishing concept a2. However, I found a curado dc for 200$. Does anyone own a dc, for me longevity is important and the dc seems like it would take away some of the durability. i have owned some older curados and loved them but the concept a2 looks sweet as well and I’m thinking about it for a jig rod reel with that 25lbs of drag. However I have heard the curado k feels more powerful bc of the gears. Does anyone own these reels if so do you prefer the dc or the k for lighter baits, have you had any issues with reliability on the dc, and what are the thoughts on the concept a2 ?
  2. Hello everyone! New to the forum as a member, but been a lurker for a little while now. I am currently wanting to get some advice on what my next purchase should be. I own the Dobyn's Xtasy DRX 742SF and love it! Not one complaint about it, but I am now wanting a casting setup. I am going to be picking up another high end rod for bottom contact, and it will be paired with a Shimano Metanium DC. I am going to use it for 1/2oz to 3/4oz jigs + trailer, smaller swimbaits, T-rigs, etc. Occasionally I'll even throw the Z-Man Giant TRD with their Mag Shroomz Head that will weigh around 1oz. Jigs are definitely the main purpose, though. I am considering getting another Xtasy, the DRX 755C, or venture out and try the NRX 894C. I know the 894C is rated up to 3/4oz, but I'm discouraged to move up to the 895C, because I hear how tip heavy it is. I have also heard the 894C can handle up to 1oz lures fairly well. A Dobyn's Champion Extreme DX 744C split grip is also on the board, but I am really focusing on the Xtasy or NRX. What are the opinions out there? Has anyone tried either, or both of these specific models? If you were in my boat (pun intended), what would you do? Thanks everyone!
  3. does anyone know if the shimano slx dc will work in salt water
  4. I've been thinking of getting a DC reel for a while now. It's quite a big step up for me as I'm just a college student with a part-time job. The Curado DC has been my target for a while and they retail at 350$ CAD up here in canada. After our ludicrous sales tax, it comes out to $400. Ive been eyeing one on Facebook Marketplace for the past week and the seller is asking for $300. He said he's willing to negotiate and he says it's lightly used, only 16 hours on the water. Is there any way to tell a DC reel is still in good shape aside from the aesthetics of the reel (scratches and whatnot on the frame) just by feeling it in my hands? For example, to make sure braking system still works and so on. (By the way, it wont be going on sale around here at local tackle stores for black friday but i have no idea about boxing day) Thank you in advance! And yes i realize im only really gonna get to use the reel next spring but that wont stop me from making casts in any open water I can find ?
  5. Hi, This might have been posted before, but I was not able to find anything on it..so please forgive me if it has. Anyway...I have had my Curado DC for about 6 months...really like it other than the fact that when I cast (on occasion), my 15 pound braid somehow gets a Birdsnest in it mid cast and will only cast out for a few feet before it stops because of the birdsnests. It's frustrating. Happens in all conditions (no wind, wind, etc.). I use for the most part weightless flukes and use the 2nd setting on it. I have re-spooled it a couple of times to see if that works...even took off about 20 yards of line to see if that would help too. I have noticed when I reel in, my braid is never spooled tight...is this normal? Don't know if this causing the problem. I have read about some Curados being defective...just don't know if this something I'm doing or if it could be defective. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
  6. So I’ve had a 13 *** for a while now (little less than a year) and it’s starting to slow down on me , I can feel the gears and loud on the retrieve, I was looking at the Shimano Scorpion DC 17 as a possible replacement as I still have a warranty on the 13 so I could just return it and pay 30 dollars extra for the Shimano , I love the look and feel of the 13 but the DC tech is tempting. Thoughts ?
  7. New to the Washington DC area, college student from Fairmont WV interning in DC for the summer. Looking to do some bass fishing and was wondering if anyone was familiar with the area and would want to do some fishing. I don't have a car so would have to uber.. Should be interesting with all of my fishing gear lol. Cant go this summer without wetting a line. Let me know if you're interested in doing some largemouth or smallmouth fishing in the DC area. 8. Greetings! I'm a new member recently moved from Boston, MA to washington D.C. and I'm looking to gather information on lakes/pond in D.C, Maryland, and Virginia that I could fish Smallmouth/Largemouth bass from the shore and is too far from D.C. I'm also looking for convenient bait shops near me or fishing spots. Any places y'all can point me to would be greatly appreciated, I plan to go fishing fishing tomorrow or at least explore some of the surrounding area.
  9. Hey All, I moved from northern CA to the DMV about a year and a half ago. I've fished for years all over northern california, but have yet to fish on the east coast. I've got a good all-purpose smallmouth pole (the rest of my poles will be coming this summer), and I'm looking to get into some good fishing. I do not have a boat, canoe, float tube, pontoon, or any type of fishing / floating device. So I'm limited to shore fishing and/or boat/kayak rentals. I'd love any tips on spots to get into later this spring. I'd appreciate any and all responses! Thank you!!
  10. Hello! Long time reader, first time poster. I did a search for this title and haven't exactly reached a straight answer. I want to simply know which one of these great reels is overall the better reel paired with a G. Loomis NRX 894c spooled with 20 lb. braid fishing with jigs/spinners/swimbaits/senkos/t-rigs/c-rigs/buzzbaits in the Northeast of the US. I have my bro selling me his lightly used 2011/12 Calais 201 DC for $300, and I know a new Metanium DC goes for 350-400 on the bay. So help me decide which one is the better reel out of the two. Thanks! -Will Bro
  11. Hello, My name is Tim Clarke and I am posting this topic in hopes that I could join someone on their bass boat in the Northern Virginia, Maryland, and/or Washington DC areas this upcoming Summer. I don't have my own bass boat yet and usually rent jon boats at the local marinas that allow. If anyone has an open seat and wouldn't mind some company on the water, please message or email me at tsclarke30@gmail.com I'm pretty knowledgeable for a 26 year old and am eager to learn as much as possible. I'm willing to help with expense cost or any other requirements. Thanks! Tim Clarke
  12. I'm not from the US so I have no idea how this works and I didn't find any info about this elsewhere: can I fish in Virginia and bring a fish to Washington D.C. (for example to cook)? How does the regulation work? Thank you!
