  1. I've been looking for a reel primarily for freshwater, mostly bass but the occasional salt water. I just want a reel that is durable and enough to be worth the money. I have looked at some of the DC reels like the curado, slx and scorpion but ive been wondering if I need the chip. I am unsure if the chip will restrict distance or if it is worth the price. I have also been looking at JDM reels like the SLX DC 71 but do not know how durable they are compared to the curados. It is a concern that there is no warranty and that they are not as easy to repair with parts. I am primarily a bank fisherman so I want to know if the 70 spool size will be enough. Is the I-DC-5 worth getting the JDM vs the I-DC-4? I am an intermediate baitcaster user so I am wondering if I need the DC to help reduce backlashes and also skip lures. (This is one of my weak points) The Tatula I have hard great things about especially when it comes to skipping, but I am concerned about the durability and how smooth it is compared to the Curado. I also do not want a reel that is only good for skipping. I will be pairing whatever reel I decide to get with a Dobyns Fury 734C which Ive heard runs light. I know its a lot so basically: Need a durable, somewhat salt resistant reel An all rounder Left retrieve Under $300 Are DC models worth it? Are JDM models a risky purchase? Are JDM models worth it? Is a 70 size spool enough to hold the amount of line that I need? Is the Curado MGL a good purchase or is the Tatula better? I fish mostly 3/8 ounce lures and above Senkos weighted and unweighted I am a intermediate level angler when it comes to baitcasters Any answers would be appreciated and I am open to suggestions on different reels.
  2. To start off I’m a stats nerd in spinning reels. I tend to fish more saltwater so I know all about what each spinning reel is designed for. However I started bass fishing for bass recently and was wondering if some expert here could help me understand what each of the following reels are meant for? Also how do the different models (I/k) affect the performance. Chronarch Aldebaran Bantam Metanium Antares Exsence Scorpion Also any recommendations y’all prefer? Looking for a long casting, fast retrieve/hg, 150 sized reel as a do everything rod. Hoping to find a used one for under $200. I won’t be throwing large swim baits so most of the stuff will be from 1/8 to 7/8. Would an MGL be too lightweight based? Shimano or Daiwa would be preferred. Thanks
  3. Hi guys, I need some good suggestions about a decent budget/backup sensitive bottom contact rod for light jig/worm application. I usually fish in highland reservoirs with clear water with rocky bottom and some tree and brush piles but very few heavy cover spots. Fishing depth in 10 to 30 feet. Just finished to upgrade my boat with new front unit and a new trolling motor, so no much money to spend in a new rod. I'm looking for a a light jig and worm casting rod for 1/2 at max to use with 12 to 14 lbs line. The rods I can afford and get here in EU are the following ones: Discontinued 2018 Loomis E6X 843, 844mbr, 853 and 854jwr for 170. I read a lot of reviews about them and can't figure out what is the best one for the use I need. Some loves MBR and some prefers JWR flex for b.contact. The new Shimano curado 7'2 M and MH for 135 I would like to try the Dobyns Kaden but no way I'll pay 260 for a rod that in US has the same price of Sierra line that I can consider in 703 or 733model. For +50 I can get the Champ.Xtreme St Croix Mojo that I owned in 7'1 MH felt mushy and not sensitive at all, so I sold it. I hope to have some suggestions from you guys, thanks in advance!
  4. Does anyone know if the Curado 150 MGL spool will fit/work in the Curado MGL 70?
  5. I'm currently looking at the Shimano Chronarch g but haven't had much luck finding reviews on it. does anyone have any thoughts on the Chronarch series and is it worth the extra money over the Curado series
  6. For sale are two Curado K 200 reels. Both are lightly used and have been sitting in my fishing cabinet. 200XG 8.5:1 SOLD 200HG 7.4:1 SOLD TYD $130 each or $240 for the pair. Paypal friends and family only. Original box for the XG, HG will have a box, just not original. Message me for more pics. Thanks
  7. https://www.americanlegacyfishing.com/shimano-curado-k-low-profile-casting-reels.html Looks like they finally added a PG to Curado K line up.
  8. Hello, I’m looking for some help regarding my Shimano Casitas 150HG. The reel casts fine, but when I turn the handle to reel it makes a somewhat loud noise. Im pretty sure it’s the bearing but my question is what bearing should I replace? And does anyone know the size? Thank you
  9. Hi, This might have been posted before, but I was not able to find anything on it..so please forgive me if it has. Anyway...I have had my Curado DC for about 6 months...really like it other than the fact that when I cast (on occasion), my 15 pound braid somehow gets a Birdsnest in it mid cast and will only cast out for a few feet before it stops because of the birdsnests. It's frustrating. Happens in all conditions (no wind, wind, etc.). I use for the most part weightless flukes and use the 2nd setting on it. I have re-spooled it a couple of times to see if that works...even took off about 20 yards of line to see if that would help too. I have noticed when I reel in, my braid is never spooled tight...is this normal? Don't know if this causing the problem. I have read about some Curados being defective...just don't know if this something I'm doing or if it could be defective. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
  10. I’m looking into getting a shimano curado DC 150. I’m not sure if I should use mono or braid?? On my first baitcaster I’m using braid and it’s all right. I will be throwing just about all kinds of baits for bass fishing. But my friend has his spooled with mono and it’s definitely different? So what are the pros and cons? What would you go with? - thanks Anthony
  11. So I had the idea to supertune my main gear and pinion. I heard negative and positive responses so I was wondering if I should supertune my Curado.
  12. Hello . I decided to get my first baitcast combo after using just spinning gear for a long time.I recently bought a Shimano Curado 71 XG and I don’t know wich rod will make a good combo with this reel. I am fishing small ponds using 80% Crankbaits between 1/4 oz - 1 oz. My budget is max 100$ for the rod . If anyone can recommend me anything good that will cast the weights mentioned above, that will be great. And a braided line to go with this also. Thank you! Have a nice day!
  13. My left handed Curado K finally arrived on Saturday while I was out fishing. Once I got home, I quickly opened it up and inspected it. Upon first holding it and spinning the handle, I was pretty impressed with the reel. I was bummed that it didn't arrive in time for my trip out on the boat on Saturday, but then my wife asked on Sunday if we could take the dog for a walk around the one local housing community pond. So this was my opportunity to get some on the water time with this reel. Here's my initial thoughts and first trip out impressions of the reel. Briefing: I've always had a soft spot for the Curado reels. My first baitcaster that my father and grandfather got me was an old green bantam Curado back in the mid 90's. I learned baitcasting on that reel and I still have that reel today and it still works just as well as it did back then. Since that time, I have owned (and some I still own) every model of the Curado that has come along. The model I got was the 201K-HG model. For those that aren't aware, this is the left handed model in a 7:1 ratio (31" IPT retrieve). I also have a standard model on pre-order (6:1 ratio, 26" IPT), but those haven't started shipping yet to my knowledge. Unboxing: These reels come in the standard Shimano boxing that we're all accustomed to. Upon taking the reel out, I was immediately impressed with the looks of the reel. The flat black look awesome on this reel, and it looks much more expensive than a $180 reel. The dark green spool and tension knob were a nice touch of the past. The one thing that struck me as odd was the coloring of the handle and drag star. They are a gunmetal silver color, and in certain lighting it looks more silver than gunmetal. With the coloring of this reel being so muted down, a shiny silver handle/drag star looks a little out of place. Shimano has black handles and drag stars on their other reels, so I'm not sure why they didn't stick to that on this model. Not to be confused with what I said earlier, this gunmetal silver in other lighting does look darker, so it's just a matter of what lighting you're in I suppose. Upon grabbing the handle, I immediately noticed that the knobs are bigger around that what I'm used to on my Chronarch's and Metanium's. They definitely beefed them up on this model. I'm not sure how I feel about these larger knobs, but I know some guys prefer a beefier knob, so I'm sure they'll appreciate this feature. Once I turned the handle, I was really shocked. This reel feels as sturdy and smooth as my Metanium MGL. Shimano has really dialed it in with the aluminum frame and micro module gearing because this thing is so fluid whenever you turn the handle. Comparing this reel to the previous I model, this K model feels light years better in basically every category. I'm not saying that the I series was a bad reel, but I feel like this model Curado is under priced with how refined it feels. On The Water: Prior to heading out, I spooled the reel up with 14lb. Gamma Polyflex copolymer line and mounted it on a St. Croix LTB 7'1" Medium powered rod with a fast action. My reel came with the internal brakes set to 2 on, 2 off, and the external dial set on 3 (adjustable from 1-6). I tied on a 3/16oz. swimbait jig head and attached a Rage Tail Menace grub on it for the sake of taking her out on her maiden voyage. So I left the on the stock brake settings from the factory and adjusted my tension knob until I had the desired fall rate that I wanted. Making the first cast, I was impressed with the reel. It was like the factory settings were made for my little swimbait presentation. I experienced no overruns during the cast and no backlashes upon splash down. Color me impressed considering I didn't adjust anything from the factory other than the spool tension. During the hour or so that I fished, I casted numerous different ways to see how the reel handled everything I threw at it. Side arm, overhead, back hand, roll cast, pitching. It handled everything with ease and no issues at all. I was able to pitch with ease and good distance, considering the presentation I was using was probably only around 5/16oz overall. My standard casting distance was on par with what I get out of my Chronarch's and Metanium's, so I was impressed with that. I backed my external dial knob down to 2.5 and got a few more feet on my casts. During the hour or so I fished, I managed to catch four fish and I lost two others. Everything in this pond is in the 9-12" range, so no monsters to really test out the drag, but big enough to bend the rod and feel a wiggle on the end of the line. The reel felt just as smooth retrieving my bait and reeling fish in as I thought it was when I pulled it out of the box at home. If you haven't fished a Shimano reel yet with the micro module gearing, you're missing out on a super smooth reel. I'm really impressed that Shimano has brought this technology down to the Curado lineup. Conclusion: So far, so good with this new K series Curado. I'm going to try to put as much time in with this reel as I can before we have ice here in Pennsylvania. I can't wait to receive my standard 6:1 reel either. From what I can see so far, Shimano has taken a big step in the right direction with the Curado lineup. I know people were very upset over the G series, but the I series was a vast improvement over the G, and now the K is a big improvement over the I series. Only time will tell, but I'd say that the Curado is back to being king of the $200 casting reel market. In my opinion, this K series feels better in the hands and performs better than all of the various Tatula models I've fished with. I know this was only my first outing with this reel, but I wanted to voice my opinion for everyone who is on the edge about this reel. I am going to put in more time with this reel and I will probably update this post or create a new one once I really break this reel in (just like I did with the Chronarch MGL). So stay tuned for more updates. If anyone has any questions, I'll try to help out the best I can.
  14. I've started kayak fishing (love it) and with that goes the minimizing of gear. I'm fishing in NC (Falls Lake /Beaver Dam /Jordan)- water isn't clear- especially with all the rain we've had. Right now I've thinking: 1. For CBs, Traps, SquareB, Jerks(?)--- Loomis GLX 845C- 7' MH Mod rod with a Curado 200 (6.3:1) and 16# Sniper FC 2. For spinners, chatterbaits--- Kistler Mag2- 6'8" light MH, Fast Mod with a Curado 70 (8.2:1) and 30# braid with a FC leader 3. For Drop, Ned--- Avid X- 6'9" MLXF with a Symetre and 10# braid with a FC leader Not sure what to do about topwater (if and when). I could swap the Curado 70 with a Curado 200 (7.1:1) and use the 70 for top (MXF rod), but was trying to keep the rod count to 3 (or 2!). I've used all three a couple of time and seems good. I'm missing a carolina rig/jig/worm rod though. OR am I overthinking?
  15. Noticed most all fishing sites have the Curado I for sale at $150. This usually only happens when they are releasing a new one, and discontinuing the current one. Has anyone heard of this? Shimano hasn't released any official news about it. Either way, its a great reel for $150.
  16. Im looking at alot alot of different reels for an upcoming purchase and im just wondering, what would you guys use the shimano curado 70 hg for? And the shimano scorpion 70 hg for? Not sure what the difference in applications is between the two reels.
  17. Does Cabelas know something we dont? They have the Curado 200i on sale 30 dollars off. Could we see a new curado released at the classic?
  18. I just got a new curado 200HG and I got a few questions, i have a lews tournament pro g and that is by far the smoothest reel I have felt, this curado I can feel the gears a little, is that normal?that's a dumb question I know but on my lews it's like nonexistent, also when you turn your drag star on the curado all the way down which I do after ever trip, when you spin the handle holding the reel straight does the reel make random clicking sounds? The spool isn't moving when the drag is all the way down so it's not centrifugal breaks, last question, are the knobs on the handles a little harder to spin? They seem to need a little force, as you can see I am new to shimano products and I'm making sure I got a Good one and not a bad one
  19. Which one do you think wins! -This is my pawn shop"
  20. Hi, I was wondering if a Shimano Curado I or Shimano Chronarch ci4+ is a better reel to get. I want one that will last me and will cast a long distance. If you put the price aside, which reel would you pick and why?
  21. I was looking into buying a curado but wondered what the difference was between the curado and the 70.
  22. What do ya'll think is the best choice for the price? I'm kinda suck between a rock and a hard place thinking of if I should just throw in the extra dollars for the Curado or save some cash with buying a Citica... From what I can tell, they're VERY similar reels, but I'd like to hear if any of you have fished them and could tell me about 'em. Thanks a ton.
  23. How can I fix my reel so that it does not backlash while the spool is still giving out line during a cast? I am new to baitcasting reels as of this year and have owned my Shimano Curado 201I for a couple months now. When I attempt a cast every once in a while my bait will stop mid air due to overrunning from the spool. This has recently been happening more often than before. I have tried both tightening and loosening the brakes. Although when tightened I feel like I cannot cast very far, and when too loose this problem seems to occur more often. Inside the cast system I have two of the switches on and two of them off. The dial knob is set at one which may be part of the problem. Also I have it spooled up with 50lb power pro braid(no backing but it is tied through the holes in the spool), and my rod is a 6'6" medium heavy St.Croix mojo bass. Thanks for any help.
  24. Hey fellas, I am an occasional reader of the forum, and though you guys might could offer some advice on a new rod and reel setup for me. I am looking for a new setup to throw a spinnerbait with that is strictly dedicated to that. I like to fish Kentucky Lake at night, and one of my go to baits is a spinnerbait thrown at the points on the main lake. My delima is this. I have basically decided on getting a Shimano Curado as the reel in the 6.3:1 retrieve; but the rod choice is more difficult. I would really like to try the new e6x rods out, but the one that they have denoted for a spinnerbait (the 812c) is only rated for 3/8-1/2 oz baits. As most of the baits i throw in my situation are 1/2oz or bigger this is probably not the correct rod for me, but i was curious about some other models. Does anyone have any experience with the e6x and if so, would the 803c or the 853c be a good choice? If not, are there any other suggestions? I would really like to stay under the $200 range. Thanks for any help!
  25. Hey yall, Just looking for some feedback on what you would do in my shoes. I don't have money for multiple (3+) rods so as of now I have a UglyStick Elite 6'6 MH using 12lb flouro combo baitcaster but I feel like im missing a lot of hook sets and I just recently ordered St. Croix Mojo 7' M and I plan of putting a Shimano Curado reel on it just cant decide what line I want to use, ive been thinking about using all braid for that. I wanted something a little "better" than what I had which is why I purchased the St. Croix. Do you think those set ups are fine for what I do which is bank fishing 80% of the time using jigs, buzzbaits, spoons, cranks, etc. What would you recommend? Line, reel etc Thanks in advanced for the feedback
