  1. Which would you choose for an “all around cranking rod”? Fenwick Lunkerstik 7’3 MH/M OR Okuma EVX B cranking rod 7’ M/M-MF (I’ve heard they run heavy so I’m going down to the Medium)
  2. Hey BR Got to fish a charity tournament with a friend last weekend and put together a video of the Day day...enjoy! thanks for watching!
  3. Its that time of year where we begin to come out of summer and the fall is getting closer. In this video I share some baits and ideas that work well for me during this transitional period. Hope you like it and good fishing!
  4. I disconnected my boat's starting/cranking battery and when I went to put the new battery in I realized that there was a 3rd wire that seems to come from toward the front of the boat. I connected the 2 wires from the motor, red and black, and it worked. So I don't know where this 3rd wire (black) is from (left disconnected). Is it from the boat's battery gauge, and if it is, does it go on the positive or negative terminal? I know it's not for a charger as I have that disconnected.
  5. I did a post a while back about cranking rods, finally went with the IMX Pro 845c. Now looking for a reel to go with it, daiwa or shimano fanboy, kinda looking now at either a used antares, a metanium MGL, a bantam mgl or daiwa steezs. Any experience on this topic and ideas on what would balance the rod best? WRB talked in my older post about IPT on 100 sized reels, I would like to take this into consideration. what to do? Sincerly, Nathan,
  6. Hey guys, im looking to buy a nice casting rod. I don’t know what to look for in a rod as far as power and length go. I’ve read a moderate action paired with a medium heavy power will be good for pretty much anything I throw (cranks, spinners, and ChatterBaits) but I don’t know about length or good brands. Any input you guys can give would be great. Right now my budget range is $100-$175 i cant really fathom spending more than that seeing as how I’m still trying to pay rent while in college lol.
  7. Looking for suggestions for 2 different cranking rods under 90$ each. One to throw 8-15 foot divers and another to throw 15 up to big 10xd cranks. Anything helps as I am not very familiar with crankbait rods. Need something that will allow me to deflect off of the stumps or rip rap I'm often fishing cranks around. Thanks.
  8. Is it really worth it to buy a cranking rod? I want to stick with 4 combos and have 3 already, is it worth it to add a cranking rod or should get a 6'10" medium casting rod and use that for treble hook lures(crankbaits) and other finesse applications... Thanks
  9. Ok - so I searched the forums for this - because I know this type of question has probably been asked 100 different times, but I couldn't find anything related to what I'm looking for - and with the summertime here - and the need to go deeper is apparent - I decided to ask this question anyway. Is there an all around cranking rod - that works for shallow and deep cranking applications? I had 6'6" medium action rod that was my cranking rod, and I lost the setup due to an unfortunate incident on the water yesterday - rod, reel, lure and all. So in my quest to replace said equipment, it brought me to wonder about the "hybrid" rod. I am not that experienced in deep cranking - but am reading a MH 7'6" rod is about where I would want to start looking - that seems too heavy for a shallow cranking rod. Is this true? Thanks for any input offered.
  10. So I am saving up for a good all around squarebill/lipless crank/jerkbait rod. I am really leaning towards the Powell Inferno lineup due to price and previous experiences with Powell rods. Out of the three below, what would you guys suggest? (I'm looking on TW) 6104CB 704CB Glass 705CB Thanks! I'm open to other rod suggestions as well, just preferably not more than $20 above or below $100.
  11. My home lake has a lot of bank beaters, and there is really not much deep water structure. I'm wanting to give punching and flippin' cypress trees a break and start fishing the huge grass flats that the lake has. Any tips on how to attack giant grass flats that run anywhere from 2ft-4ft? For example, 1. What to look for? any subtleties? 2. Bait choice? (square bill, trap, chatter bait, fluke).... 3. When to move? 4. Cast in the grass or parallel it? 5. Work top of grass? middle? or bottom? ( how to attack each zone?) These are just a few that i can think of, but any tips that y'all have would be great. Thanks guys.
  12. Anybody got their hands on the new Halo Cranking II series? Looking for a dedicated trap Rod. If anybody has any info on that or even the other new gen Halos would be great.
  13. Alrighty guys I'm looking to get more into flat sided crankbaits this spring on hard cold fronts and how to fish them more effectively. I like the Jackall Bling 55, 6th Sense Crush Flat, and the DT-Flat. What rods do y'all use for your flat siders? The majority of my fishing is shallow wood and grass lines.
  14. i am new to jerkbait fishing and am more or less lost when it comes to fishing them. Any advice on brands, rods, gear ratio, technique, and what time of year to use them?
  15. Hey guys, so I want to get a dedicated cranking setup and have 2 rods in mind. I use shallow to mid depth (~12ft) cranks ranging from 1/4 - 3/4oz. The two rods I am looking at is the Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0 Winch in 7ft Med/Mod or the *** *** Black 2 Crankbait rod in 7ft Mod. Now I have the first gen *** and love it but I haven't heard too much about this rod in particular and I've heard nothing but good things about the Abu rod. So I'd like your guys opinion on which you think would best suit the task. Thanks!
  16. It's between a AbuGarcia Black Max and a Shimano Citica 200e. The rod is a st Croix mojo crankster.
  17. Im looking for a medium powered cranking casting rod, preferibly between 6-7 feet with a moderate/fast action. I like rods with reel seats that have the through blank, and split grip. what are some good cranking rods like this in the 80-100$ price range?
  18. At the moment i'm using my medium heavy moderately fast 7 foot berkley lightning rod for cranking. I hear a lot of talk about how you should use medium power rods to crank. I find that if you get a medium heavy with a mod/moderately fast tip you shouldn't have a problem cranking. I've never ripped a hook out of a fishes mouth, does anyone else crank with rods of higher power than medium? I think too many fishermen do what they're told and not what they feel.

  20. I'm looking to get more into crankbaits. I don't necessarily want to spend a ton of money on one. I have an Abu Veritas 7' med, with a med-fast taper, but it feels pretty stiff, so I don't know. Though I won't skimp on the reel, it'll probably be a BB1. So was looking at Bass Pro's crankin sticks. I was wondering how well these actually work for regular med-deep diving crankbaits. They are labeled as fast action, which I was a little confused, and I would think it would be better to have a more whippy tip to throw cranks? I also looked at the W&M Skeet Tessera S glass, but I wasn't sure. I know the crankin sticks go on sale. So do they basically have a cranking stick for any application, like sq. bills through deep divers? Thanks
  21. So has anyone tried one of these reels out yet?! They've been out for a little while, they seem pretty appealing to me, but I can't find anyone who has used one or posted a review on one. If you used one, can it cast lightweight cranks well (1/4oz.)? Also tell me what you like and dislike about it. What other reels for cranking do you think are better (in the price range, other than the BB1, lol)? Thanks
  22. hi, i am looking to get a cranking rod for around 150 dollars, i am probably going to get the powell max 704CB, is that a good rod? does anybody own it? i am open to suggestions around the price range and maybe slightly over it thanks alex
