  1. I know people can go out and kill it on a spinnerbait but despite countless hours throwing them i can never seem to consistently catch fish on them while I may get a random fish every once and awhile I just feel much more confident in other options as in swim jigs chatterbaits and underspin or regular swim baits. I’m not sure if it’s just the lakes I fish but like a good boy I pull out a spinnerbait everytime the water gets a little dirty but it always seems to come up short I have even spent a good amount of time slow rolling big colorados at night with little success burning willows above shallow rock nothing. What times of the year and what conditions do you guys find most successful for throwing spinnerbaits obviously a spinnerbait or chatterbait is for dirty water as opposed to a swim jig but even in dirty water a underspin or chatterbait just produces more fish for me. When do you guys throw spinnerbaits and when do you have confidence that they will produce more than the underspin and chatterbait
  2. I know chatterbaits are legendary, some people say color dosen't matter. Others claim white, or some version of white is the best. Still others green pumpkin, black and blue, bluegill, etc. i just want to hear your thoughts on chatterbait colors for farm ponds without shad.
  3. Chatterbaits Chatterbaits, a bait I can't describe. I first found out about the deadly bait in Cabela's in Kansas city a couple of years ago. My curiosity struck as my eyes glued onto the three eighths ounce bladed jig that looked like no other. As my mind is puzzled about the straight blade with the bent end on it. I instantly think that this is the bait. The Mothership of all baits. One cast and I catch a big bass. So I decide to grab a “Shad Glimmer” Zman Chatterbait. The next day I tie the bait on and go fishing. The seventy degree day with still, clear water. I cast out. Nothing. Again. Nothing. A few casts later I throw the bait out with hope I will only hook a single fish. And then it happens, A big, chunky three pounder comes up to my bait and engulfs it. That's when I was hooked. I started using this bait every day until I was an expert. The most successful days on a Chatterbait was on cloudy conditions about eighty five degree weather with partially clear water on a beautiful summer day. I would simply just cast the bait out there and reel the bait in occasionally ripping the bait if there was reeds. If I was in a hotter day of the summer I would let the bait sink longer then reel. If it was a colder day all I would do is let the bait sink about two feet deeper then reel. But if it was a fall day when the fish are schooling I would locate a school and follow them around the pond and casting where they would be next making the bait go into the middle of the school. 4. Tough fishing makes for good chatterbait making weather. A few fur and feather chatterbaits, spins, and a rabbit jig mixed in. Bring on the fall bite! -Jared
  5. so I'm wondering what weight do you guys use for what depth? I have mostly 3/8 oz jigs, chatter baits, spinner baits and crank baits and I'm wondering how deep do you guys fish them? when is a 1/2 oz better suited than a 3/8 oz? when would you use a 1/2 over a 3/8 and why?
  6. This morning, in a rush to the lake, I THOUGHT I tied in my Strike King Pure Poision onto my 7'1" MH Duckett White Ice, which is my typical "bladed swimjig" rod. I get to the pond and take a first cast and realize that I tied the PP onto my 7' Medium White Ice crankbait rod. I was furious at myself, but decided to keep fishing anyway. It wasn't bad at all, as I wound up landing three bass in about 45min, which were the only 3 bites I had. I started thinking that maybe this system could work. I had 15lb hi seas fluoro-coated line, but figured I could up it to either 20lb FC, or maybe even 30-50lb braid if I couldn't get good hook sets in. I know guys on tour like Brett Hite use a heavy-action glass rod and 20lb fluoro: Does anyone else use a similar system?
  7. What is your go-to bait that always seems to catch you a fish when having a tough day? For me I'd have to go with jigs, and chatterbaits.
  8. I am still relatively new to the sport of bass fishing with artificial lures. When we go out I throw a texas rigged plastic (worm or creature) or a topwater frog and that is what I catch bass on. My question is, when are lures like spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, and chatterbaits useful and more productive than a texas rig? When (what time of year/time of day) do bass prefer faster more horizontal presentations over a slower moving worm or creature bait? I have heard that faster presentation work better when bass are prespawn and are loading up for the spawn and when they are chasing shad, otherwise during the spawn and post spawn they don't like to chase lures. If some of you could please give me some insight and share their wisdom with me so I can hopefully learn how to use these lures and above all be productive using these lures it would help me a lot. I've thrown smaller spinnerbaits with a colorado blade with no bites, and I've thrown a 3/4 and 1/8 ounce chatterbait later in the evenings with no bites. I tied on a buzzbait yesterday evening just before dark just to see how it would run in the water before we left. No bites. The waters I fish are generally lightly stained to murky ponds 1/4 acre on up to 1 acre plus. Some have heavy grass cover, some heavy wood cover. Crappy bottoms that hang lures easily so crankbaits are pretty much out for me until I get a boat and go out to the lake. Help me out guys..
