  1. Hello all, I bought a Dobyns Champion DC703C rod roughly 2 months ago, and I'm loving it. It balances so well, it's the only rod I pitch with right now because I can do that all day without wearing out my wrist/knuckles/joints, ever! The only problem is that it's a little low on power than what I'm looking for, so I'm deciding to try and upgrade this one or grab a completely new rod. I'm liking Dobyns so much, I'm actually in the market for the Champion Extreme. Being the first $300+ rod, I don't want to make a blind purchase. And, I don't know of anywhere near here that I can actually hold a DX rod. So to the point, I'm stuck between getting a Extreme 704 vs 744. I want a longer rod, but the balance on my DC703 is crazy good, and I don't want to risk getting a DX744 if that extra length throws the balance off (meaning more tip heavy and tired hands). With the reel off, the DC703 (split grip) balances on my finger (parallel to the floor) close to about 5.25 inches off the top of the reel seat (right where the rod starts). Can someone with a DX744 post a picture or measure out the distance from the top of the reel seat to the balance point (reel off, and include handle type)? I feel that is the best way I can gauge how "tip heavy" the DX744 is compared to the DC703, if there is any difference at all. Thanks
  2. Hi all I was wondering if you could give me some guidance on which rod to get. Was thinking of getting a good all around casting rod and was looking in the Sierra or champion XP line and wanted to see what you would recommend? I live in Florida and mainly fish ponds (not much cover and throw Texas rigs 1/8-1/4 (mainly 1/8oz) ,senkos, small Plastic Swimbait a on 1/8-1/4 jig heads, and most of my hard baits are 1/4 to 1/2oz( avg 3/8). Trying to figure out what model to get and which line from. Thanks for any guidance you could give me with my decision.
  3. Which is better for bottom contact?
  4. I finally got to hold some Dobyn’s Champion casting rods in hand. They felt really good in hand and seemed to be of great quality. They had some of their crankbait rods but they were the graphite versions. I’m curious to know if the glass crankbait rods that they offer are full out glass or composite?
  5. So, im looking to buy a new Dobyns Champion XP. I want to get a rod that I can throw between 3/16-3/8 Texas rigs on, 1/4-3/8oz jigs, swim jigs, chatterbaits, kind of like an all-around rod. I've heard the 703 is a lighter rod although it's labeled "medium heavy". What do you guys think? 703 or 704?
  6. Hello All Spring of 2017 I plan to purchase a new / slightly used bass boat. I need some help from everyone. Any insight would be very helpful on what you have owned along with any regrets you may have in your purchases. Currently I have a 2000 pro team 175. I 100% will not buy another aluminum boat. I am sick of getting blown all over on a breezy (not windy) day and lack of storage (especially rods) frustrates the hell out of me. This was my first boat and I have learned a lot from it about what I would like to have in a new boat. The biggest lakes I may fish once or twice a year would be Table Rock Lake or Lake of the Ozarks. Budget is between 30K- 40K. Any input on new vs. used, brand, size, engine mfg. and size, storage, electronics, accessories, features, and so on. I would prefer to stay 5 years or less on a used boat if possible. I do also fish several smaller lakes around my area that have an electric only motor requirement or idle only. I have fished a few tournaments over the last couple of years but would like to do more once I have something that can carry more gear and so on. I know this is fairly vague but I am curious to hear what everyone has to say about possible boats on the market today.
  7. So I have a '95 Champion with accessory lights in the storage areas and on the deck, they came installed from the factory. I'm a little confused on whether mine are wired correctly or not...Hopefully someone can chime in. The lights come on with the main power switch, but is this correct? I would assume they should only come on via the nav light/anchor light switch? My graphs and other accessories run off the main power switch (of course) but this means the lights stay on for the entirety of the day while the power switch is ON. Is this how it's designed??? Or did a previous owner mess up the wiring somewhere along its lifetime? To add to this, the gauge lights only come on via the nav/anchor light switch.
  8. Hey Guys, I am trying to get my rod lineup down for next season so I can be prepared to start fishing club tournaments here in Minnesota. Dobyns Champion 702SF-Drop-shot, Wacky Rigs, Spybaits Dobyns Champion 702C-Shaky-Heads, Small Top-waters Dobyns Champion 703C (I own a 703 Fury but may upgrade to the Champion) -Heavy/Thick Cover Shaky Heads, Small Jigs, Large Top-Water, Light T-Rigs, Light Carolina Rigs, Spinner Baits, Chatterbaits. small swimbaits Dobyns Champion Extreme HP 744C (own)- Jigs, Carolina Rigs, Swimbaits, Pitchin, T-Rigs, Big Worms Dobyns Champion Extreme 735C (own) - Heavy Cover: Pitchin, Flippin, Frogs, Carolina Rigs Dobyns Champion 705CB-Crank Baits, Mid-Deep Divers, Squarbills, Jerkbaits I want a versatile six rod setup and I feel like this covers it all. 9. From the album: Fishing

Fish caught on Pepper's spinnerbait using a Dobyns 765cb glass with braid, and 734c Champion with 15lb maxima mono. More than one way to skin a cat!
  10. Hey fellas, I am trying to get my rod selection down for next season so I can be prepared going into the FLW (BFL, Co-Angler) season next year. I recently fished my first tournament as a Co-angler and placed 28th out of 106 co-anglers. I feel like that is pretty good and know that I have the ability to fish with a lot of these guys competitively. With all of that being said this is what I have so far: Dobyns Champion 702SF-Drop-shot, Wacky Rigs Dobyns Champion 702C-Shaky-Heads, Small Top-waters Dobyns Champion 703C-Heavy/Thick Cover Shaky Heads, Small Jigs, Large Top-Water, Light Texas Rigs, Light C-Rigs, Spinner Baits Dobyns Champion 704C- Frogs, Jigs, Carolina Rigs, Swimbaits, Pitchin', Texas Rigs Dobyns Champion 736C F/H- Heavy Cover: Pitchin', Frogs, Carolina Rigs, Punchin Dobyns Champion 805CB-Crank Baits, Mid-Deep Divers, Squarbills I want a versatile six rod setup and I feel like this covers it all. If y'all could give me some opinions on what I have chosen and whether or not these six rods will do everything I could possibly need them to do. I would appreciate some insight! Thanks, TCN
  11. Wondering how this rod handles: -lipless crankbaits (1/2 oz red eye shad & rattle traps) -shallow to mid depth crankbaits (1/4 - 3/8 oz - most concerned about the 1/4 oz) I can pair it with a citica 200e, curado 200e, or a curado 50e. Planned on using braid being as this rod is moderate action.
  12. How does the Dobyns Champion 735 handle skipping frogs under trees, logs, and docks?
  13. I am getting a new rod soon and have been eyeing the Powell Endurance 714-CEF or Dobyns Champion 703C. This is only my third or fourth year doing serious bass fishing and this will be my first "nicer" setup as I currently own two BPS sticks which were <$100. I plan to put a lot of time on the water this season (in a yak) and really learn to fish and study structure. The Powell is about $50 less than the Dobyns. Unless I can get the Endurance cheaper, I wouldn't mind spending another $50 for a Dobyns. What would you do in my shoes?
