  1. Well...not wanting to let this go but thinning the heard of some higher end gear. Selling a 7-6 Daiwa Steez " the one". Rod is in pristine condition and will come with rod sock and tags unattached. I no longer use PayPal so a check in the mail works. I'll ship well packaged and insured. $460 plus freight. I also have a new SC legend tournament bass 7'-4" MH M glass cranking rod (2022) model available (pics on request) $250 + freight
  2. I bought a brand new 7’ Lews Mach Smash spinning combo recently. From everything I’ve read & been told, it’s one of the better bass spinning rod combos out there around the $100 mark. I bought it because I broke the rod on my Abu Garcia Jordan Lee 7’ spin combo. I was expecting the smash to be somewhat as effective as my abu, or even better. Yet, I can’t get that lews to make a decent cast. I got wal mart Shakespeares to cast the same lure even further. So I put the Jordan Lee reel on my lews rod and it casts like a charm. I’ve re-spooled my lews reel multiple times with good line, lighter line, … compared casts with different lure sizes, tried everything. Why does this $100 combo reel cast worse than a $20 wal mart combo? Obviously the reel is the problem. I don’t see any obvious issues with the reel itself so I’m really curious to find out what’s going on with this Mach smash reel. Is it just a bad reel? Am I missing something? Very frustrating! Anyone else own this combo? If so, How is it working out for you? Also, I am new to this forum. How do I edit a post? I spelled “Lew’s” wrong in my subject title. Smh, how can i change it?
  3. So I just got a baitcasting setup and I'm a pretty casual fisherman so I have no clue what I'm doing. I've read all the articles and such and adjusted my spool tension to match my bait(I throw mostly senkos which are about 3/8 oz). I have my brakes around 7-9 out of 9 total brakes. However, even with smooth motions I still end up backlashing when I do overhead casts, and it is often mid cast even though I'm thumbing the spool and making it stop before it hits the water. Any tips on how to fix this? Also, using the measure distance tool on google maps, I estimated that in general I'm only casting around 25 yards tops(usually around 20-25 yds). And I've heard that most people can throw most lures around 30-40 yards. Casting distance is needed for me since I fish from the shore on ponds and some areas are inaccessible on foot. On my spinning setup which is just a 50$ combo from bass pro I can cast around 30 yds pretty easily. And I thought that baitcasters in general cast further than spinning rods. As for my equipment, I didn't buy anything super expensive since I'm just a casual fisherman. Rod- *** Fate Chrome 7'1" Medium power Extra fast action. Lure weight 1/4oz to 3/4oz or something like that Reel- KastKing assassin (I heard good reviews about this reel) Line- Powerpro super 8 slick 20lb braid.
  4. Hey all, I’m replacing all my rods real soon as I really only have two good ones. All the other are either real nicked up or broke. I’m on the search for a real good rod spinning mainly but as well as bait casting. I’ve been looking at St. Croix mojo bass or the dobyns fury. Any suggestions? Would love to hear everyone’s 2 cents!
  5. Ok...I've got to sell a few of my rods! All cork has been U40 treated when new. And rod sleeves come with each rod. I am pretty meticulous with my gear. 1. 7. I found an old Abu Garcia Ambassador 4600 CB in my shed, my granddad had given it to me. It’s from the 70s or 80s. It’s gear ratio is 4.7:1, what could I use this reel for?
  8. Hi! I'm just going to be as straight forward as possible: What is your opinion on the best 200 or less, VERSITLE, worm and jig rod? Or a rod over 200 that can be had for 200 or less, for example on TW's Black Friday sale is 20% off. Thanks for any input and tight lines! Harrison
  9. Hello, I’m looking for some help regarding my Shimano Casitas 150HG. The reel casts fine, but when I turn the handle to reel it makes a somewhat loud noise. Im pretty sure it’s the bearing but my question is what bearing should I replace? And does anyone know the size? Thank you
  10. Hello everyone, this is my first official post on here after years of coming back to the site for advice/tips. I recently couldn't pass up on an amazing deal my local tackle-shop hooked me up with, and in turn I now own a beautiful new Shimano Bantam. I know this reel deserves a baller pairing but, with so many great options out there (on top of the fact that I primarily use a spinning set up) I'm a bit lost. My first choice would be a rod in the new Megabass Destroyer P5 lineup/something JDM... With that in mind, here are the exact specifications of the reel: Bantam MGL 151 XG; 8.1:1. Which rod in the P5 lineup do you think suit it best? What applications are best recommended for the reel? What other JDM/Non-JDM options around that $300-$500 price range should I consider? Appreciate all the tips/recommendations more than you all know! Feel free to ask me for more information.
  11. Hello! I was bank fishing the other day with my casting combo. The casting reel is a Shimano Scorpion DC reel with 10lb mono. A gentleman with a spinning combo came and started to fish with me using a weighted wacky rig. He was launching that thing...really far. I wasn't catching anything on my topwater frog so he asked me if I wanted a weighted senko (he pulled in a 5lb bass within 15-20 min). I took his offer. He said my casting reel should be able to launch the wacky rig further than his spinning. His friends apparently can launch it nearly to the middle of the lake. I was not even close, I changed the break to 1. Also, I am fairly new using a casting reel. Only had this for a couple months. What is going on? 3 things I can think of is my technique, type of line/test and rod type? The guy had braid, forgot what test.
  12. Hi, I am looking for a Shimano with high drag like tranx 300-400-500, but I prefer a DC reel. Anyone knows about that? Anyone have idea what is Equivalent reel to Tranx in Japan Market?
  13. So I’m in the Midwest and I’m looking for a decent jig rod for about $100. I want it to be a medium heavy and I’ve been looking at the St. Croix Bass X but the 7’2” comes in a moderate action. Not sure if that will be good enough for jigs or if there are other options I should explore.
  14. What is everyone’s take on using bass jigs or creature baits with casting or spinning set ups? I know casting typically reels faster but what advantages/disadvantages do you see with both type of setups? Im setting up both using braided line with leader. #2 question is I understand the advantages of a fluorocarbon leader, but why not a mono leader with mist green line?
  15. I've been looking into a casting rod for lighter applications, and these two seem to be just what I'm looking for. I actually don't have the scratch for the G Loomis but I'm interested in anyones input who may have used both to hear their thoughts and comparisons. G Loomis 7' GLX 842 MBR casting rod (8-14lb line & 1/4-5/8oz) compared to a Shimano 7'2" Expride A Medium light + (7-14lb line & 1/8-5/8oz) Loomis also makes the 852c JWR in an E6X version. Unlike a lot of people on BR I really like the Gen 2 E6X rods.
  16. Do any of you go handline fishing? If so, how often, what does your handline setup look like? What fish do you like to target with your handlines? How is your luck using a handline? Over a year ago I purchased one of those Squiddies handline reels. I haven't used it yet. :( But I plan to soon. I'm even going to try making one made from an old 1 liter bottle. I like the idea of getting back to the basics of fishing (line, hook, bait, fish).
  17. Hi, This might have been posted before, but I was not able to find anything on it..so please forgive me if it has. Anyway...I have had my Curado DC for about 6 months...really like it other than the fact that when I cast (on occasion), my 15 pound braid somehow gets a Birdsnest in it mid cast and will only cast out for a few feet before it stops because of the birdsnests. It's frustrating. Happens in all conditions (no wind, wind, etc.). I use for the most part weightless flukes and use the 2nd setting on it. I have re-spooled it a couple of times to see if that works...even took off about 20 yards of line to see if that would help too. I have noticed when I reel in, my braid is never spooled tight...is this normal? Don't know if this causing the problem. I have read about some Curados being defective...just don't know if this something I'm doing or if it could be defective. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
  18. I'm looking for some additional spools that I can carry with me on the boat or to the bank. I have a few set ups and there's instances when I want to switch to straight fluoro/mono from straight braid and I don't want to have to respool. Specifically Daiwa spools, casting and spinning and Shimano spinning.
  19. I'm deciding between a few Jig rods in the $100-$150 range, and unfortunately can not hold most of them so I need others experience. I'm buying a 7'-7'3 MH XF/F Casting rod for jigs/Heavy t Rigs. So far its come down to -Dobyns Fury (I own one and like it, but have nothing to compare it to) -IRod Fiber (People love the genesis, this is the same blank with cheaper components) -Cabela's Tournament ZX (sale for $79) -Lews Custom Speed Stick -Possibly wait for refurbished Dobyns Sierra ----- I need to add, There is a 6'8 MH veritas on sale for $40. (I don't mind that it fishes one power up). Ive felt the veritas but thought the material felt somewhat cheap, and I've heard it isn't that sensitive. But $40 is a VERY good price... I also am considering the DAIWA AirDX. I was going to buy it for a frog rod, but heard really good things and some swear that it fishes jigs with the sensitivity of a $150 rod. However, the very low price point makes me skeptical...It would Reallly help if someone could give their honest opinion of this rod. Thanks
  20. Dear all, I have been researching for a good casting travel rod for at least 5 hours straight now (and maybe 11h in total). You all have been very useful on other persons topics. However I was unable to answer my main question which is what brand suits best? The travel rod wanted is fast action 1/4-3/8oz lure weight casting rod with a budget of less than 240$. I found 3 options : - St. Croix triumph casting travel rod with very good reviews but MH instead of M, no real issue though. 140$ - Temple fork traveler casting rod (TAC TRC 704-3) which is very absent in term of review, but the brand is quite good apparently. 200$ - Daiwa Ardito (ARDT70MHF-SC) spinning and casting combo. good reviews and seems very interesting since I have a few spinning reels and if was to love it you could switch between reels. I am afraid to pay 50$ of the 140$ for that extra option though. 140$ My first question is, do you have any feedback on them ? My second is are st.croix and temple fork rods on the same level of quality ? because the Temple fork rod is nowhere to be reviewed but is still more expensive. Thank you for all your answers !
  21. So I need a good casting rod for all around bass fishing but nothing to expensive probably 50-60 bucks.
  22. Do you think this would be a good setup for a shallow (1-12ft) crankbait rod reel combo? My budget is ~ $100-$170. This rod would be getting a TON of use and I don’t really know brands too well so I just wanted to ask you guys what you thought and if I could trust these brands to hold up for at least a few seasons. Shimano Curado Crankbait Casting Rod 7’2” Medium Moderate Action Glass/Graphite $159.99 Quantum Smoke S3 PT Baitcast Reel 6.1:1 $169.95
  23. Hey guys, im looking to buy a nice casting rod. I don’t know what to look for in a rod as far as power and length go. I’ve read a moderate action paired with a medium heavy power will be good for pretty much anything I throw (cranks, spinners, and ChatterBaits) but I don’t know about length or good brands. Any input you guys can give would be great. Right now my budget range is $100-$175 i cant really fathom spending more than that seeing as how I’m still trying to pay rent while in college lol.
  24. So I’ve gone out once a day (for at least 3 hours) the last 4 days. All the ponds around me are still partially/totally frozen. For the ones that aren’t totally frozen I’ve been throwing jigs to the deepest spots of the pond, or at least the deepest spots I can cast to and I’ve had no luck at all. Not even a bite. It’s honestly really discouraging and I’m about to hang up my hat and wait until it gets warmer out. It sucks getting all bundled up and standing in the cold snow and wind to just get frustrated. What do you guys think, should I just wait until the water warms??
  25. How many casts do you guys generally give an area before moving on? Say you bring 3 or 4 rods with you, do you try to use them all before moving on to the next spot? How and when do you decide to try a different lure or a different color?? I’m new to lure fishing and I find myself getting stuck throwing one lure over and over again even if im not getting anything on it.
