  1. Hey everyone, I’ve been fishing for several years now and and just bought my first boat this spring. I’m really starting to get the hang of finding bass in ponds, lakes, and bays (Lake Ontario). With that said, I am relatively clueless about bass fishing in rivers & streams. I’ve done some trolling for walleye and caught plenty of catfish and such casting worms on a dropshot off of dams on the canal… but never a largemouth or smallmouth out of a river or stream. I live in western central NY up between the Finger Lakes and the Great Lakes. The lake fishing is great, but we also have the Erie Canal, Seneca River, and a bunch of small streams and such. I really want to learn how to catch bass on the rivers and streams around here. How similar to lake fishing is river fishing? Are you still looking for lay-downs and weed edges? Do they prefer main channel or offshoots? Deep current or shallow breaks? I feel like it’s a totally different animal, and any education would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  2. Any good canals in West Palm Beach area with shoreline fishing access? I had a great place on the south west corner of the Turnpike and Lake Worth Rd, but it’s been replaced with new development. My access is gone now, like a few other areas I knew about. Wish Palm Beach would make canals of certain sizes or larger with public access on the easement and service roads. Make mini parks or walking and biking trails out of them. Developers put up privacy walls along these areas but then gates and/or no trespassing signs goes up along the canals. A lot of places in Ft Lauderdale, sunrise, Davie, etc, all make parks out of them. Wish Palm Beach would also. So much water in S Florida with so very little access to any of it. You would have to row for Many miles if you try to get to some of these areas by kayak. Several other areas you could pull off the road and fish or walk it. But as traffic has increased, guard rails goes up followed by no parking signs.
  3. Need a little help from the group. I just bought a house that's blocks from the Glades and a major canal that runs from the Glades easterly towards the shore smack between Coral Springs and Tamarac. Mostly bank fishing or a little pier open for public use. However I'm inexperienced especially in fresh/brackish waters and I'm curious as to what kinds of fish I can expect to find, baits or lures to use? Line to use? Sinkers or floaters? Any specific knot? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm dyeing to learn what'll become my new fishimg spots
  4. Hey everyone. I'm in Delray for the week, and where I'm staying is right on a run off from the c-15 canal. https://www.google.com/maps/@26.4271615,-80.085407,66a,20y,57.21h,45.12t/data=!3m1!1e3 <---This Is the canal I'll be fishing from. I tried fishing it today with some stick baits and a shad imitator, but only got one hit on the stick bait. My question basically is: what can I catch here and how. Thanks
  5. Newbie here, I'm going to be staying very close to MCO soon and I was wondering if anyone from around there could tell me where some good places to fish are. I won't have my boat or my car so it would have to be somewhere where I could fish from the shore that is no more than ~10 miles away. Thanks!
  6. I fish the SRP canal in Arizona just about everyday but i have only been able to catch a few bass out of it. I have been fishing the canal for about a year and I have become obsessed with trying to the catch big bass that i see in the canal everyday, but I have been unable to do so. The canal has a light flow, and it run from 3-7 feet deep. The water is usually a little stained and clear on some days. Almost everyday is a nice sunny day with temperatures going as high as 100-115 degrees in the summer, 65-80 degrees in the fall and spring, and 35-50 degrees in the winter. The canal walls are made of concrete with some cover ranging from tires, shopping carts, buckets, garbage cans, dead submerged bushes, and plenty of other things that shouldn't be in there. Even with all the cover the bass never really move to far from the flow gates. As far as life in the canal goes there is 1-7 in. tilapia, 1-5 in. bluegill, bass ranging from 4-17 in., there also catfish and a whole lot of carp. I don't see any crayfish or crawdads but I have seen bass caught on soft plastic craws, though I've never caught any on them. I've also seen different types of urban lizards around the canal. I'm looking for any advise, tips, or techniques you think might help. Anybody know something I don't, I'm all ears.
  7. Okay guys, I was fishing tonight in one of the canals here around the fountainbleau,Doral area and I catch one on this. I don't know what kind of fish it was and the picture is pretty bad because i couldn't take a better picture before the line snap. I didn't want to grab it by the mouth because i didn't know what kind of fish it was. It took with him $8 rapala back to the water ( d**n it). Do you guys know what kind of fish is this? That's for the help
