  1. So, while I have fallen victim to my share of broken lines and lost lures, I often wonder whether or not I’m pairing my line with the right tackle; obviously not! In my search for answers, very specific answers at that, I’ve come across what seems to have been the most thorough and yet efficient article on ‘bassfishin’ website titled fishing-line-guide [I couldn’t add link for some reason]. I mean, yes!!! Finally, a very detailed article, but... wow! I couldn’t help but feeling like my three rod, three reel arsenal will get me no where. I realize that there ideal setups per technique or presentation but where’s the middle of the road? How can I make the most out of a reel without having to switch out the line with each lure change? For example, if one of my rod and reel combos can work many techniques and handle (obviously) the weight of many lures but technically based on the article requires a different line for each, how do I get around having to switch out the line? Does anyone have better recommendations? I fish (freshwater) with monofilament because I’m fairly new to fishing and that’s what’s always recommended to me. My current reels and rods are as follows: G.Loomis Mag Bass 782c 6’6” Med Fast Mag Bass 844c 7’ Heavy Fast Crankbait 864C DF 7’2” Med-Heavy Mod Shimano Chronarch 200E7 7.0:1 Curado K 6.2:1 & 8.5:1
  2. For lack of better words, can someone please explain Line Capacity/Test as if you were teaching a child! I've read many posts on the subject but there's so much fisherman jargon and technical terms that I'm a tad confused. I'm new to fishing in regards to finally purchasing my own tackle, rather then just showing up to the lake/ocean and fishing with a buddy's gear. As an example, I got an amazing deal on a few highend rods and one of the reels I purchased new and nearly free, was a Chronarch 200e7. The specs on the box read: Nylon Mono / lb. (yds.) -- 8(180) • 10(155) • 14(110) PowerPro Braided -- 30(190) • 50(120) • 65(80) Nylon Mono -- 8(180) • 10(155) • 14(110) Fil Tresse PowerPro -- 30(190) • 50(120) • 65(80) Lol, I'm so confused! Help, please! I'm looking to purchase a Mono, Braided, and Fluorocarbon Line but I don't know what I'm suppose to purchase for this particular reel or the others for that matter.
  3. What type of fishing line (braided, monofilament, fluorocarbon) do you guys prefer for bass and why?
  4. anyone have preference of braided line over mono? have a braided and mono lined rods. braided seems to vibrate on the eyes of the pole i don't love it. am i using it wrong? caught a 5.2 lb lm on mono this morning
  5. I have a rod 6'6" action medium, 6-12lbs line and reel which can hold 10lbs line. What lbs braided line can i put on my rod for cats and carp fishing? What are the equivalents mono to braided?
  6. Hello all. I recently purchased a Pflueger Summit (SMT30X) spinning reel and I'm planning on buying a St. Croix Triumph 6'6" MF spinning rod. After reading through the forums I've decided to use PowerPro braided line with a fluorocarbon leader. I'm still undecided when it comes to backing with monofilament line first, or to solely use the braided line after placing electrical tape on the spool. What, if any, are the pros and cons of either setup? The main question I have is what pound line is recommended for my reel? Note that the Pflueger Summit (SMT30X) has the same spool size as the Pflueger President (6930X). Regarding my setup, it appears as though most individuals run either 10, 15, or 20lb. braided line. However, I haven't seen anyone mention the 30lb. line. According to PowerPro's specifications, their 30lb. line is equivalent to an 8lb. monofilament line. If I'm understanding what I've read correctly it doesn't appear as though individuals run with anymore than double their casting length with braided line (obviously this doesn't apply to an electrical tape setup). Therefore I fail to see the size of line mattering in regards to spool capacity. Can anyone can help me understand why I shouldn't just use the largest size? My final question regards what size monofilament line, and fluorocarbon line to use. My assumption is that I just go with whatever diameter matches up with the braided line I choose. Ex. PowerPro 20lb. braided would be backed with 6lb. monofilament , and a 6lb. fluorocarbon leader. All answers, corrections, clarifications, and further advise is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  7. Well, dumb question, new to the forums. I'm not going to go into how often I fish or anything. I have a Penn Fierce 6000 reel, and I have some PowerPro braided, hi-vis yellow braided wire on my reel. But, I am thinking of respooling soon , but I don't remember what strength line I'm using. I really like this line wight, regardless of what weight I should use, I like this weight, but don't know of its 20 or 30 lb test. Anyone know how I can tell which it is? Thanks guys!
  8. I just recently picked up an Abu Garcia Veritas 7' MH rod and an Abu Garcia Promax2 7.1:1, 8 ball bearing reel and I'm wondering what I should run on it. It holds 12lb mono 145 yd and 30lb braid 145 yd... I'm going to run 30 lb braid but which of the following should I do? a. (x)lb mono backing and 30 lb braid (Don't know exact lengths of each) b. 30lb braid only c. 30 lb braid with a (x)lb mono leader (Don't know exact length of each) d. 30 lb braid with a (x)lb fluorocarbon leader (Don't know exact length of each) Much appreciated, thanks!
