  1. Hi, I am a casual fisherman who spends a decent amount of time on the water. I’m looking for a single rod that can do just about everything. What would the specifications of said rod be? Do I want medium power? Fast action? Help.
  2. Purchased a Star Rod Stella 7ft Medium-Fast and Diawa BG 3000. Thanks for your help! (Please criticize everything I'm using/buying if you think necessary. Please bless me with your wisdom. I'm pretty new to the gear world.) *Looking for a rod around $100 for freshwater bass.* Preferably 7', 1 piece, Fast & M or MH or H (which rating. suggestions?) "Best" power rating? Is there a big difference between 2pc&1pc aside from convenience? Much more sensitive? I was told the action begins at the base on a 1pc and at the middle/only the tip on a 2pc. That same person also said there isnt a difference btw 1&2pc so now I dont understand... *Purchasing a Daiwa BG 3000 spinner* Using: - 4"-5" senkos yum dinger or gambler fat ace & occasionally some spinners - 3/0 VMC widegap offset hooks - 3/16oz bullet slip sinkers - Powerpro braided line. (15lb test or 10?) If you have any suggestions on a rod and anything I should change for my rig please let me know. I was told today at a local shop that I shouldn't use braided line on a spinner and floro would be better. Especially when casting. Opinions? I've done a ton of research and been talking to a buddy from Florida. Theres so much gear I'm having trouble finding the right rod and my chat with a local shop manager contradicted most of what I've learned. I live in metro NY so serious fishing buds are hard to find. I've been fishing for a while but never really got into the gear side of it. Thanks in advance. Sorry for the long post.
  3. Hey Guys, I’m looking at getting a rod for frog fishing but don’t want to go over $110. The two I’ve picked out is the Shimano Exage 7’2” or 7’6” Heavy not really sure, and a Dobyns Fury 735. I’m not sure which one to get, and the Dobyns is $10 more and I was wondering if it was worth it.
  4. Powell Max 3D Review I purchased this rod at my local tackle shop for 160$, feels like I payed 200$ plus.. This rod is lighter than my crucials, carbonlites, st. croix mojo bass, and many more, same for sensitivity... this is by far my most sensitive rod, you feel everything, every bump of the bottom, and the smallest bites. Quick tip, a way to test the sensitivity of your rod is to tie your lure on, let some line out and close your eyes, have someone tap the line, and see if you can feel it. I can feel the slightest taps when I do this. I have the 6'8 Med Heavy, extra fast tip version, and I can throw virtually anything on it, swimbaits, spinnerbaits, jigs, Texas rigs and a bunch more. Don't worry about the extra fast tip, it can do anything your typical fast tip can do, if not better. It has 10 Fuji guides that are smaller than most guides but not near as small as micro guides. It loads up great, has great hooksetting power, has a great tip and is brutally tough. It is rated for 1/4-3/4 but I have thrown 1oz lures fine on it. I have this paired with the Shimano Curado I and its a beast, extremely light and well balanced. I am in love with this rod and would recommend it to anyone who wants a rod that excels at everything... If you have any questions please ask I'll be happy to answer them, Thanks Bassinick

  9. I'm surprised this isn't a pinned topic already so here we go let's get it started! Note these rods and reels do not have to be a combo just your favorite. Three rod choices three reel choices. What are your favorite by weight class? Rods for under 150$(+/-)? Reels for under 150$(+/-)? Rods for 200-330$(+/-)? Reels for 200-330$(+/-)? Rods for 350$+? Reels for 350$+? This topic does include baitcasters/spinners and both sides of the rod. To be helpful please try to explain a little about your choices and post a link to the item. I'll tag it so hopefully please can search for this for a long time to come. Just an idea and let's see how it goes. I'll post mine once I get to a computer to copy links. Good fishin' boys.
