  1. Hey all, Here's my question. "You get to put together a small fishing kit. You get to fish only on a lake that has all of the basic freshwater species in it (panfish, bass, trout, catfish, pike, pickerel, muskie, gar, bowfin, carp, etc.). You can pick only three different lures to use. They should be lures that are able to catch multiple fish species (not just 3 different bass lures, or a trout, a bass, and a panfish lure, or whatever). You can also include enough terminal tackle to make one rig, if your lure is a soft plastic that requires it." Let's hear some answers!
  2. I had an unsealed deep cycle battery tip inside my boat last year causing battery acid to go everywhere. I swore I'd never have that issue again so I bought 2 Cabelas brand sealed AGM deep cycle batteries. Fortunately they happen to go on sale when I needed them and I got them for around $100 I believe. Now I need a new marine starting battery and only want to go sealed. I can't find any from Cabelas. I have a 2014 Stratus VLO with a 2014 Evinrude 115 horse Etec. How many cold cranking amps do I need? What is the best value sealed (maintenance free) marine starting battery out there? I'm hoping to find something in the $100 price range if that is realistic/possible. I see Lowe's carry's Deka sealed marine starting batteries for $107 with 800 cold cranking amps. I do get 10% off at Lowe's being a military veteran, so there's that, if that is a good choice.
  3. I just finished my attempt to create a dying gizzard shad. Any opinions or tips for me? Just curious what would be the most you guys would be willing to spend on a bait like this one?
  4. Hi all, So I'm a bit confused on how some people just know exactly what to go to on the water, lure wise. I go out and I base what to throw on time of season, water color, and water temperature. For example if I go out to a lake loaded with shad and the water is 56 egress I'm gonna throw a shad pattern crank, swimbait or spinnerbait because I know the fish are feeding up on shad in preparation for the spawn. My confusion lies in this, what other I do when the fish don't hit what they're "supposed" to? I've saw guys on the water that make moves to oddball rigs like neko, ned, split and drop shot, but how do they know that if the baits for the time of season and water temp aren't working what to try next? When I see the crank, trap, jig, or spinnerbait bite isn't on I spend my day just wailing away on a wing and a prayer that they like what I'm chucking at them. So, how do I know when to go to a neko VS a spinnerbait, or a ned VS a jig or whatever? What do you guys go to when the "usual" ain't working?
  5. Any good lakes to take my new kayak out onto in western pa?
  6. From the album: Dylan Embree

Mouth like a Hoover...the fish, that is.
  7. Looking for a decent spinning reel around $60 for weightless senko fishing, going to be making short casts with 15lb braid. The things I'm looking for it to have is good reliable drag, a drag that can be finally tuned, and a somewhat lightweight reel, preferably a smaller reel because I will be making a short casts to the bank.
  8. Hey guys, I need to pick up some new lures and stuff for the new year coming up and wanted to know, when does bps have their biggest sale. what about Cabela's. Thanks!
  9. Hey guys I am searching for a good pithcing reel. I looked at recent blogs and the reels that they said I could never find any on sale. So I was wondering if anyone knew a reel that I could buy at bass pro or tackle warehouse that can be under $200. Thanks for your help!
  10. What are some of the best ways to utilize monofilament line, 6-20 lb test, in bass fishing? (Lure Type, Rod Type, Casting/Spinning, etc.) Thanks, Rick
  11. Hey all, I was recently asked a simple question - if you could only have one lure ever, what'd it be? The question is so simple yet so difficult to answer. I replied with "I'll get back to you later on that one". I simply couldn't think of a single lure that I would want to fish. So I'll ask you guys - "if you could only have TWELVE baits to fish, what would they be?". Even then, it's pretty vague. List colors, sizes, how you'd rig them - everything. If you want to include a rod, go right ahead. Here's mine, in no particular order: A red stickbait. I like the 4" Yamamoto Senko in red/red flake (good luck finding those), but they're hard to get now. I rig them with a 1/0 EWG hook, wacky rigged through the middle Rebel big ant. I need to have one of these in each color. Firetiger if I can't choose more than one, though. In case I want any panfish or small fish Baby kahara frog. One of these for a smaller frog lure in the chartreuse crawdad color Spro Bronzeye Frog 65. Camouflage, green black, outback, and white black are all good colors Berkley Havoc Scott Suggs' 4" Rocket Craw (Perfection green fleck) + 4x4 T-Roy's Signature Series Swim Jig (Goggle Eye, 3/8 oz) Zoom lizard 6" in Red shad, mossy pumpkin, or black red flake. I rig them with a 3/16 ounce bullet weight, clear bead, black crane swivel, 12 pound fluorocarbon leader, and 3/0 EWG hook Mann's Hardnose Snake. I'll get the 4-pack, with one of each color. The scarlet color is also good to get though. Rig them with a 6/0 Owner screw-lock for huge fish, or a 4/0 EWG for smaller ones Zoom Trick Worm. I couldn't have enough colors of these. I like weightless on a 2/0 EWG or a 3/0 Straight shank I feel like I need to include a hard bait, but they're not really my thing. I would throw in a Storm Arashi Squarebill in red craw, though Another frog, let's do the *** Lunker frog in texas toad or rocky toad One more frog, I have to do the Livetarget hollow body frog. I prefer emerald brown in 45T and/or 55T Let's throw in a Leland Lures Panfish Magnet Kit. I still feel like I could have all this gear, and not catch a fish :| Well, let's hear yours!
  12. What is the best type of Rod to use in order to fully utilize Zara Spooks? (Power and Action)
  13. I didn't see any post like this from conducting a brief search so I figured I could make one. Given what you are fishing for and the category, what're your GO-TO lures? Whether you're fishing for bass, pike or catties; post 'em up. Bass Topwater: Boo Ya Pad Crasher; Zoom Horny Toads[zero luck with either yet this year, frustrating] WINNER-->Jigs: Mister Twister Yellow Twister Tails[bounced of bottom or brought up through moving water. caught all my bass & walleye with it this year] Cranks: Minnow Crankbait; Rebel Crawfish Drop Shotting: Watermelon Finesse Worm; Senko; Leeches[zero luck catching so far, had one bite with a senko] I see all this talk about brush hogs and what not so I'll definitely have to try that out as well. I recently got a jig with the skirt and put a trailer on it but I haven't had success yet but I love the way it looks so I'll never give up on it. Also, when I drop shot; I don't use a palomar and tie it directly to my line. I use Eagle Claw Baitholders with the pre-tied hook and tie that on my line with the weight below it. Does anyone else do anything like this? Hopefully I lure ya'll in to this post rather than spook ya'll.
  14. Im in the market for a new frog rod and it got me wondering, what's your best/favorite frog rod you've ever owned?
  15. I'm new to this site so I figured Id start a forum on something I wanted to know. So whats everybody's all time favorite spawn and prespawn largemouth bass lures or baits. Any answer is better than no answer.
  16. Hey guys, I don't know if there is already a thread on this as I checked but couldn't find anything. Anyway, I started bass fishing about a year and a half ago, and I have all the basic lures. However, I have been interested in finding different, new, and reliable lures, both hard baits and soft plastics to check out. Thanks
  17. Let's see what your PB bass is! Pictures would be great! Don't be afraid to share if yours isn't as big as other people's, we just want to see your biggest! I'll start off with my two.
  18. I have 200 dollars to spend on a new baitcast reel. I am planning on using it primarily for pitching/jigging/heavy texas rig stuff. I have been looking at different reviews and on the forum but I am losing my mind. I am trying to narrow it down. I am interested in the LEW's BB1 and tourney pro, Chronarchs, and REVO STX gen 3. Like I said narrowing it down has been hard. I am also open to some of the other brands like Okuma Helios. I am not very brand loyal at this point because I am still getting back in to fishing. All my past reels have been from BPS. Help will be much appreciated. Thanks
  19. Hey guys, I wanted to know your input on a great rod for crankbait fishing under $300. I will be pairing it with a new Chronarch 201E6. I have been Looking at G Loomis Crankbait Rods and the Crankbait GL2, but I'm open for oth brands. I have never had a G Loomis, but hear great things, so I am leaning toward these. Open to any suggestions on other brands and sizes. Thanks.
  20. Whats your favorite baitcaster for $200 and under?
  21. I am going to purchase a St. Croix Premier Casting rod in the near future and I am wondering in anyone has any experience using this rod for frogging. I want a 7 footer but I'm debating between a medium-heavy or heavy (both fast action) because I am worried that the heavy might be too stiff to throw frogs far enough. Any ideas are much appreciated.
