Well today was one for the books as they say. From the beginning, yesterday I put on a new to me trolling motor on the 12' tin boat.It is an old Evinrude with the offset shaft.Love those units as I have used them before. I could not wait to try it out, so off I go to a nice little pond an hour away. The cross wind on the highway was fierce. I cleared a wooded area and the truck lurched about 3' sideways and the trailer began fishtailing several cycles @ 60 mph. That was my cue that a problem was happening. I ignored it until about 5 miles later until a trailer bearing was screaming bloody murder.I limped on to the ramp where it was safe to assess the damage.
Be prepared== I had everything needed except a seal to make a quick repair. Fortunately the spindle survived fairly well.35/40 minutes it was road worthy to get home, but not before I wet the new motor. It worked very well even straight into a 20 mph wind. Very pleased with it. I did catch about 6 pickerel,2 lmb just shy of 3 pounds and 2 yellow perch, all on jerks.
The wind picked up even more, the sky got really dark, low and rain poured like the hammers of haties.I continued to fish until the boomers began. I just smiled and thought OK,OK I`ll leave.
Having mechanical problems on Christmas eve afternoon could have made for a bad day ,had I not been prepared. btw it is a utility trailer that don`t use much and this one caught me off guard. All said today was a good Christmas gift.
