  1. To start off I’m a stats nerd in spinning reels. I tend to fish more saltwater so I know all about what each spinning reel is designed for. However I started bass fishing for bass recently and was wondering if some expert here could help me understand what each of the following reels are meant for? Also how do the different models (I/k) affect the performance. Chronarch Aldebaran Bantam Metanium Antares Exsence Scorpion Also any recommendations y’all prefer? Looking for a long casting, fast retrieve/hg, 150 sized reel as a do everything rod. Hoping to find a used one for under $200. I won’t be throwing large swim baits so most of the stuff will be from 1/8 to 7/8. Would an MGL be too lightweight based? Shimano or Daiwa would be preferred. Thanks
  2. I just bought a Shimano Bantam Coriolis co-100 from eBay and I cannot find the right owners manual online. There is a lever next to the spool tension knob and I have no idea what it does. The only marking says "F" and I wanted to know if anyone here knows what it does. image of what I'm referring to: https://postimg.cc/jn5TBx9q
  3. I recently received this Shimano BGX 2200 SG reel. It is a great reel to cast. I really enjoy the ability to back reel like some of my spinning reels. I would like to know its approximate age and gear ratio.
  4. Currently have a 7’3” Tatula MH with a Fuego CT w 30# PP ssv2. Although a great reel for the price, I’m looking to upgrade the fuego and hopefully gain on a couple key things: 1. Casting distance (fishing clear water) 2. Casting light rigs (down to 1/4oz rigs) Budget is flexible, mainly looking to match with the Tatula and not overprice a reel on a reasonably priced rod (can’t see going more expensive than a metanium) So far I’ve narrowed it down to the following but am also open to suggestions: 1. 2020 metanium MGL 2. Bantam MGL 3. 2021 Zillion SV TW what would you pick? I don’t have experience with higher end reel OR shimano.
  5. I am fortunate to have come across a very rare Shimano reel and I've had it for almost a year. Excellent condition. This is a Shimano Bantam Beastmaster BBM-VR. This apparently was Shimano's Top of the line reel during the 80s. Two speeds, 6:1 and 4:1. Notoriously, they had some issues changing smoothly between gear ratios. messing with the handle enough gets you aligned and geared up. If you'd want to make this fishable, I would suggest replacing some silicone parts that deteriorate over time. $150 shipped, open to offers and trades.
  6. Hello everyone, this is my first official post on here after years of coming back to the site for advice/tips. I recently couldn't pass up on an amazing deal my local tackle-shop hooked me up with, and in turn I now own a beautiful new Shimano Bantam. I know this reel deserves a baller pairing but, with so many great options out there (on top of the fact that I primarily use a spinning set up) I'm a bit lost. My first choice would be a rod in the new Megabass Destroyer P5 lineup/something JDM... With that in mind, here are the exact specifications of the reel: Bantam MGL 151 XG; 8.1:1. Which rod in the P5 lineup do you think suit it best? What applications are best recommended for the reel? What other JDM/Non-JDM options around that $300-$500 price range should I consider? Appreciate all the tips/recommendations more than you all know! Feel free to ask me for more information.
  7. Hi there, first time posting! Recently ordered a Shimano Bantam MGL XG from Japan and upon recieving the reel and trying to spool it up, when i depress the thumb bar the spool overruns severely. wondering if this is typical of a bantam or if I might have a defective reel. This is my first Shimano MGL reel, however i do own a curado k, DC and an SLX Xt, all of which this does not happen with. If I tighten the spool tension knob quite a bit, the problem seems to go away. any input would be great!
  8. Hi guys! Time has come for a new reel! My Lew's Custom Pro Speed Spool SLP is already 4 years old.. I'm fishing 20lb fluoro so spool capacity is important. I will use it with chatterbaits, small swimbaits, jerkbaits, flipping small craws.. I'm looking for something that can cast really far (I fish from the shore in really deep waters) and that it's buttery smooth on the retrieve. I'm looking for a Shimano or Lew's, price range max 350$. I was thinking about the Shimano Bantam mgl but I'm concerned about the casting distance (line guide issue). Anyone is using the Lew's Pro-Ti SLP? The custom pro felt geary since day one, now I want a reel that is silky smooth. Unfortunately my local fishing shops doesn't have them in stock. Every suggestion is appreciated. Thank you for your time!
  9. I did a post a while back about cranking rods, finally went with the IMX Pro 845c. Now looking for a reel to go with it, daiwa or shimano fanboy, kinda looking now at either a used antares, a metanium MGL, a bantam mgl or daiwa steezs. Any experience on this topic and ideas on what would balance the rod best? WRB talked in my older post about IPT on 100 sized reels, I would like to take this into consideration. what to do? Sincerly, Nathan,
