  1. Hello I’m new here and I’m posting due to some frustration from something that occurred two days ago. I got back into fishing about 6 weeks back, first time since I was a teenager. I’ve been out everyday these 6 weeks and only just found a decent location two days ago. Broke my dry spell and was catching LMB and peacocks, 2-3lbers. Now I want to first paint a picture here. This was a park in south Florida with a small narrow canal on one side and a small lake/canal on the other. The small narrow canal has bushes where I was but the further end of it is clear. I was standing in the small clearing between the bushes. Entire park is about 1 mile from side to side. When I arrived there were two guys fishing near the entrance, so I walked to the far other end away from them so I wasn’t fishing on top of them. I ended up going to the small narrow canal on the opposite side of the park from them, and after a few catches I noticed several pretty big peacocks that were spawning. The biggest easily being 10lbs, biggest peacock I’ve seen in person. so I spent a good 15 minutes working my senko and I was getting hits and having it chase but never hooking. After about 30 minutes total in this one narrow small spot the 2 guys from before walk up, now with an additional 3 guys, and crowd around either side of me and start trying to catch them too. I mean literally on top of me shoulder to shoulder. It wasn’t a large area at all. Honestly it was barley enough for even two people to stand in and fish comfortably. I decided I would stand my ground and never stop casting and this upset them, they had the audacity to tell ME to go away as if I was the one intruding. Here’s the part that really gets me. They were using shiners. Just planting them directly in the nest. You’re all but guaranteed a catch at that point. Had it been a lure, okay at least then it’s just a matter of who has better luck/skill. But it was akin to shooting them in a barrel. I didn’t think much of it and figured whatever they’ll catch it, release and be on their way and then I’ll have my space to cast and catch it after, not a huge deal. Then after catching the 10 pounder the guy knifes the fish in the head and harvests it. Then they do it again, and again, and again and harvest every spawning peacock going over the bag limit. 10+ fish into their bucket. What should or could I have even said to make them give me my space? They could have at minimum easily waited for me to catch and release and then harvested it after. They were gone before FWC would have been able to show up and do anything. I wanna clear up potential confusion. I don’t necessarily have an issue with harvesting if someone’s following regs. But I find it a little crappy to harvest a huge nesting game fish/management species. But that’s neither here nor there, my main issue is them standing all on top of me and basically screwing me out of the catch spent time working on. It was crappy and they know what they were doing, I have no clue what I was supposed to say. I can easily foresee them responding bad to anything there is to say like “oh well you don’t own the water.” It was just super messed up. also, these are not invasive at least in this area. They’re considered “Introduced nonnative” and are a management species to help keep actually detrimental invasives such as carp or snakehead under control. Removing the bigger ones is heavily discouraged by the FWC because of this. Harvesting them causes more harm than good. But again my biggest problem is idk how to deal with a situation like this, then trying to bully me out of my spot and just fishing on top of it.
  2. Hey all, I’m located out in the far west-end if Henrico County in central Virginia and am getting sick of seeing “no fishing” and “residences and their guests only” posted at what seems like virtually every pond/lake I’ve found on google. I understand this area is well developed but not too familiar with the waters around the area and am trying to get into fishing with the quarantine and this free time but it’s super discouraging not being able to properly fish. I’m aware of public parks like Crump and Deep Run Park but they’re so flooded with other fishers that regardless of worms, jigs, and other baits I can’t even get nibbles. Anyone out there with some advice on less populated/visited ponds/lakes within about a 25 mile radius or so of the Short Pump area? I’m currently restrained to bank fishing only but have been getting closer and closer to buying a kayak since I’m seeing them on sale closer to $150-175 but don’t want to purchase if not necessary/no place to use it. I’m willing to travel probably 30-45 minutes, maybe further if the fishing is good. I’m not looking for an absolute gold mine but I’ve resorted to walking wider creeks cause I can’t find places with public access. I’ve only ever caught Bass and catfish but would love to expand past to other fish as well but have zero knowledge on any of that or friends with knowledge on them either.
  3. looking for a casting rod to throw Texas rigs anyone have any rod suggestions
  4. Hi all, I recently got into bass fishing due to this COVID situation. Unfortunately, I don't have a boat or kayak and so I have to fish from the bank. Unfortunately, the only place I've caught bass is my local neighborhood pond. The other neighborhood ponds don't hold many bass. Are there any ponds in Vero Beach area I can fish? Thanks!
  5. Was out fishing the other day with my brother and a friend of his and landed my PB LMB 6.89lbs! Just wanted to share it with the group since I am beyond pumped about it and don't have to many fishing friends to share the great news with. Just wanted to brag a little ? haha Honestly I thought I snagged a log/limb and was mad about possibly loosing a lure when out of no where my line ran to my left and pulled drag! I have recently gotten back into fishing about a year ago as something to do with my son like my father did with me, but at no point did I ever expect to see or catch a Bass this large.
  6. I fish from the bank exclusively and use 2 rods. One is a 6 foot spinning rod and one is a 7 foot baitcaster. The 7 footer I find is too long for me to do a lot of pitching and flipping with. I just can't seem to get it down because it feels too long. I can do a lot with the 6 foot spinning rod. Should I downsize my baitcaster to a 6 foot rod?
  7. Hey Guys and Gals, I was out fishing the last few days and saw something I haven't seen before. I have a good idea of the patterns of bass when they spawn. I live in central Indiana and the spawn has just started really. While I was out bed fishing at my local ponds, I saw something weird that I personally haven't ever seen before. While working on a bed fish, I would notice that the fish would leave the bed for a minute or so and go into the grass line. Which in my eyes is normal. The thing that was weird was the same fish would go to multiple beds and stay there for a few minutes then head off to another bed. Has anyone ever heard of bass having more than one bed? If you have any ideas on why they would do this please let me know, i'm curious.
  8. Hello guys, I need some advice. I'm in the southern part of Indiana, and have been struggling to catch fish consistently. I am pond hoping around ponds I've caught fish from before. The water color isn't brown but is murky. I can see about six ft from the bank. The last week has had little rain and sunny days. I've tried many diffident baits like jigs, swim baits, soft plastics, spinners, cranks, and about anything else I have in my bag. As I look around the bank I see bait fish and bluegill. I have caught some fish on beds and around points. I just cant see to find them for the last few days. If you have any tips or tricks please let me know. I'm open to anything.
  9. I've always been restricted to bank fishing, as my father and I have never had a boat. I've managed to make some good catches on a bank, though. I used to live down a dirt road, with a pond about 1 mile away. The last day I got to fish it, I nailed a ~5lb largemouth on my first cast with a strike king mini bleeding spinner bait. Any of you guys regularly bank fish? Do you have any preferred lures or tactics for it? I've typically always fished small jigs or ran a spinner bait by the cover on the bank, as most small bodies that I bank fish are fairly featureless. *Please note that the bass in the photo is not the 5lb one I was speaking of, this was a completely different day, years apart.
  10. Most of the time as of now I bank fish when I can, so any tips about bank fishing?
  11. I just bought a Spider sling back pack for all my bank fishing. I really wanted a bag with a rod holder but this price was too to pass up. Have any of you found any good ways to attach rod holders or anything like that so I can carry more rods when bank fishing? Thanks!
  12. Ive only been fishing for a few months now and needed some tips. As we all know fishing in the heat of the day is almost impossible. Ive caught a few Bass and am learning quickly where, when, and how to fish for them but really wanted some tips on night fishing for bass. I usually stick to a plastic worm on a Texas rig and that has worked out well. Recently purchased a black jitterbug for top water but never know when to pull it out. Also just picked up a spinner bait as well. Can i effectively use the spinner bait at night? Any tips would be gladly appreciated on what lures to use and how to catch more bass at night. Thanks!!
  13. So recently I have really wanted to get into the realm of bait caster. I have check eBay, amazon, bass pro, gander, and even Walmart just see to what is out there. I have come to the conclusion that there are a ton of choices to pick from with all types of price ranges. I am looking for something under 200 bucks for the combo that can really jump start me into the bait casting world. Something that can get the job done with most rags, soft plastics and lures. I do about 99% of my of fishing on the bank. Any advice or suggestion or links would be Awesome Thank BK226
  14. I caught this right before sunset. I weighed about 2.5. Take what you can get from the bank.
  15. I live in Northeast Georgia and I fish this pond behind my house and some other local ponds once in a while. My main pond has heavy vegetation around it and it is a retention pond so it has about 8-12 foot ledge in spots that drops off but I am not sure how deep the middle of the pond is. I have had some luck in the evenings with a frog but not much else is working so far this year. It is somewhat hard to locate cover but i have a little luck and the bottom of the pond is mostly muddy and slimy vegetation. What is your go to bait/lure in this situation, what color, and how do you fish it?
