    I am a bank fisherman, who is also on a budget. I want to start using the Texas rig more. I have 1 quality bait-casting combo, an Abu Garcia Black-Max Vengeance 6'9'' M. I currently have it spooled with 20 lbs braid. Again, I am a BANK FISHERMAN. My question is: Should I use a leader to help with stealth? Or just use my braid like I have been? Also, should I use a leader all the time for different lures like lipless crankbaits, or jigs? I feel that if I use one and get hung up, I will only lose my leader, and a lure instead of 30 plus feet of braid. I have some 8 lbs mono, and can't really afford to go purchase an entire roll of F.C. Plus I don't want to get away from my braid because I use the same combo for top water frogs, jigs, and everything else I decide to fish with. You guys here at BassResource.com have always pulled through and gave me quality advice, so please don't let me down now!

    Hello and thank you in advance for the help, I always seem to get it here. I want to learn to fish from the bank more. I did have a jon boat and was getting off the bank,but that is no longer an option. So until I buy a kayak I am stranded on land. So I was wondering how I can fish deeper from the shore, I see people cast to the middle of the pond / lake, and I have never seen success in that. I have always seen bass a shallow water fish even though I know that is not the case. I have been fishing large ponds small lakes, whatever you might call it. I fish the banks for hours with every bait I have and there is little to no luck, So how should I go about fishing deeper and just chucking a lure into the middle. I think it will be hard to do that without having any clue what is on the bottom.

    I started fishing in July and I’ve been fishing mostly the neighborhood ponds on the east side of orlando. I got pretty good with a Senko or trick worm, learned the ponds, and generally could catch 2-3 fish an hour (including dinks) with my son. I haven’t been fishing since September due to work but I’ve been a few days in a row now and I can’t catch squat. I tried a few different colors in the 4” length, I even tried a ratt-l-trap and a one-minus which I’ve never had luck with before but why not. I’ve tried a lot of searching online and most tips are related to bass boats I assume as they describe 7+ft of water. Any tips? What am I missing? I’m not even getting a bite. :-/

    A recent conversation with a friend left me pondering a question: What is the number of combos a bank angler should? Then how do you determine the combos? Do you take all finesse? Grab two stouter rods and something light? Yes you might have quest it, I am a bank angler and currently sitting on six combos. When I go I never take more than three with and frankly it's the same two every time. Typically don't fish a lot of cranks just because it's hard to find areas that are weed free or crank friendly. I'd like to hear what the community thinks. Please refer to the questions above.

    Hey all, Read some previous post about some spots around Albany but most seemed to be lakes or large ponds that you would need a kayak or small boat. If anyone is familiar with any small ponds around the area that hold good bass or anything that would be great. Looking to do some bank fishing and pond hopping once the season gets started. I am not trying to steal anyone's secret spots but any information would help! Thanks, and tight lines! - Jake

    Hello KC area anglers, I'll be visiting the KC area this week and was going to do some bank bass fishing in the evening for a few hours. Does anyone have any recommendations? I've read previous threads that there isn't much bank bass fishing in the area but Lake Jacomo and James A Reed lakes were mentioned. I've been to Lake Jacomo once and found a couple of spots where I've caught a couple decent fish from the bank but wasn't sure if it was worth trying the James A Reed lakes instead. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Tom

    Hey, I just moved to Georgia right outside of Stone Mountain State Park. I want to know where are some good spots to bank fish at and catch decent sizes. I have two little boys and I want them to have fun. I've been looking for a boat and trailer but in the mean time need a place or two. I've been inside Stone Mountain Park but only caught baby cats. Any ideas will be appreciated

    I fish from the bank and have one bait casting combo and one spinning combo. What type of line should I use if I only have 2 rods and don't want to carry a lot of rods.

    Hey guys, im fairly new, as in it's been years, to bass fishing. I do not own a boat, and will not be getting one in the near future, so I pretty much fish from the bank. I would like some recommendations on a good 2 rod/reel setup that I can easily walk the bank with. Thing I'm looking for include: - 1 spinning and 1 baitcasting setup - can be used for multiple bait types and presentations - rod action/strength/length - line type/strength for both reels - reel gear ratios and size for spinning reel In a perfect world, I know it would be better to have multiple setups. But since I'm walking, I like to keep it to 2, 1 spinning and 1 baitcasting. Any recommendations would be much appreciated. Thanks guys!

    I've always been restricted to bank fishing, as my father and I have never had a boat. I've managed to make some good catches on a bank, though. I used to live down a dirt road, with a pond about 1 mile away. The last day I got to fish it, I nailed a ~5lb largemouth on my first cast with a strike king mini bleeding spinner bait. Any of you guys regularly bank fish? Do you have any preferred lures or tactics for it? I've typically always fished small jigs or ran a spinner bait by the cover on the bank, as most small bodies that I bank fish are fairly featureless. *Please note that the bass in the photo is not the 5lb one I was speaking of, this was a completely different day, years apart.

    looking for multi purpose set up although mainly for big catfish i would also like to have the line capacity and max drag to fish off of the jetties and beaches without a boat. i want something (both spinning and baitcast) that can hold a good amount of 30 pound braid (300 yds at least) and around 20 pounds of drag. i was looking at some abu garcia ambassadeurs but im kind of dissapointed in their max drags (11 to 15 pounds?). dont get me wrong, thats all fine and dandy in open water but most of the time im pulling good size flatheads in and i want to get them up and out of cover as fast as possible so that 20 pound drag is pretty important. as far as spinning reels i think ill probably go with a penn fierce 5 or 6 size, although ive heard they have graphite rotors so im not sure how that would effect the life of the reel.

    Hello from Texas, Has anyone else notice how hard and long you have to work this summer just to bring in a halfway decent largemouth? Is this just a North Texas thing or what? Yes, it's hot, REAL hot hear in Texas. And yes, we did have some flooding about 2 months ago. In fact most lakes are still above normal levels. My lake, which is lake Joe Pool, is still closed to the public. That being the case I've focused my efforts on some local ponds which have never disappointed me in the past. These ponds are rarely ever fished and have always been what I would call "Honey Holes". Well, I don't know what happed or what changed but the Honey is gone. The 3,4,&5 pound beautiful healthy looking bass have all but vanished From all three ponds I fish. Ill snag some tiny ones and the occasional 2 pounder but its rare. I know the fish are in there. What's the deal? It's like a switch was flipped off. Any ideas or thoughts on what causes bass in different ponds to just stop??

    Looking to get into bass fishing, and need help with a baitcaster or two. I only have experience with spinning gear and pan fish. So, what would you recommend specifically for bank fishing as I am boatless. My budget is right around $200-250 per set up. As a newbie, I would appreciate complete setups (rod/reel/line/baits). Mostly shallow ponds and reservoirs around me. Lastly, would you recommend a left handed reel to ease the transition? Thanks

    Caught my personal best this weekend fishing from a dock on a small pond at our deer lease in Centerville, Tx. We didn't have a scale but compared it to pics and videos online and we estimate 7-8 pounds. Caught on a 1/2 oz. Booyah spinnerbait during light rain in about 3 ft of clear water.

    Caught this on Nov 22, 2014 standing on a dock on a small pond in Centerville Texas. Used a chartreuse and white 1/2 oz. Booyah spinnerbait with a colorado blade. 3 ft. of clear water during a drizzle.

    Largemouth on UNT Pond (Denton, Tx)
    Caught on a 3/16 oz. Booyah Pond Magic spinnerbait just as it was getting dark. Probably 2 lbs. This pond is off Highland Park Dr. in Denton on the UNT campus.

    My name is R.j. and I am relatively new to bass fishing. I am a soldier stationed at Fort Riley, KS. I started just a few months ago and thanks to the numerous amounts of videos online, I already have a very decent knowledge base to fish with. I normally cruise to local ponds and small lakes and bank fish. On any given day I can catch 3-4 small to decent sized fish in just a couple hours. I primarily throw small spinnerbaits, texas rigged worms, wacky rigged worms, top water frogs, and a crankbait every now and then. These have seemed to give me pretty good success in various places. I recently started throwing soft plastic creature baits, but I feel that from the shore line it is difficult to target those larger bass that with a boat I would be able to flip the lure to. I am very much so an amateur and will take any tips you guys can offer! I only have 1 good baitcasting rod/reel and 1 "okay" spinning rod/reel. I don't make all the money in the world so building up my arsenal is taking a while!!!$$$ I've included a picture of a decent fish I caught this morning in a weedy pond with a frog. Hope to get some advice from ya'll, and maybe give what little advice I have.

    Hi, Allow me to introduce myself. I am an Army transplant stationed at Fort Drum. I grew up in Kansas. Kansas has a total of about 5 lakes. It was a 2-3 hour drive to get to any one of them. They were all state parks which meant that you could just go there, walk to the shore and start fishing. Also, there were no trees (it was Kansas) so the entire lake was more or less available on foot. Since moving to upstate, I have made several efforts to get out to a lake and do some shore fishing. I have been to Lakes Bonaparte, Black Lake, Indian Lake (this one was ... interesting to get to) Black River Bay, and a few other places and what I run into is that any available shoreline is taken up by residential or is not walkable due to trees etc. I am resisting buying a boat because I move every two or so years and I (my wife) think it would be a pain to move it across the country every few years. I have scoured the internet to find a post or two about shore/bank fishing and have found very little. People don't want to broadcast to the entire internet where the good spots are. This is understandable, but maybe someone could give me a tip on how better to find some fishable bankline.

    What's y'all's take on fishing from bank or boat? For me, a 6 hour fishing trip on the bank will bring me dozens of perch and if I'm "lucky" 1 or 2 smallmouth! I do not have a boat but those who do would you say almost a better chance of catching those largemouths!? But being a 17 year old I don't really have the capability of purchasing a boat so it will stay bank for me! Where would a bass worthy spot be located?? As far as vegetation, weather, condition of water and what not. Haha And don't hesitate to leave some tips and tricks on how you bag those lunkers! Thanks guys, tight lines. -Steven

    I'm a beginner, trying for largemouths for a while now, but no luck. Been to a lot of bass sites, read a lot of magazines--Bassmaster, Bass Angler, FLW--and also watched some videos (like Bigmouth), but still haven't hooked into one yet. I'm not trying to land trophies at this point, just hoping to have some fun. Do you know any really easy spots from the shore/bank? I'm pretty much land-bound. Looking for anywhere up to a two-hour drive from Oakland--anything around the Greater Bay Area or Delta, etc. I was on another forum (which will remain nameless ), but all the members could give me were general bodies of water (like "I heard Discovery Bay, Shadow Cliffs, etc. was good"...). I appreciate the advice, but I don't have the skills yet to identify potential spots by sight (though I've tried really hard). And, so, I've decided I should try to ask on other forums as well. If you don't mind, I'd be truly grateful to hear about some of the productive places you fished. If you have specific locations with descriptive landmarks to make them easier to find that would be great! God bless!
