  1. Hey everyone, I’m looking for some recommendations for a good jerkbait rod specifically for the dreaded northern pike! Right now I have an avid x 6’6” med heavy fast with 30lb braid with a Lews tournament mb (which the gears just went in) but my problem with this setup is I can’t cast very far with baits such as x rap 12s and husky jerk 14s (which is what I primarily throw) especially into the wind. I believe my problem is having too stiff of a rod that doesn’t quite load up. I’m looking for something in the 6’6”-6’10” range. I can’t seem to find out what would improve my casting distance more, a medium rod with a fast tip or med heavy with a moderate tip. I’d like to stay with the med heavy because there are some pretty decent pike up here. I’ve also heard about some rods that are stiffer than rated like a medium would feel more like a med heavy. Also should I stick with a casting rod or would a spinning rod work better? If you have any other tips on how I could improve my casting distance without getting a new rod that would be greatly appreciated. thanks for your input, Dave
  2. Has anyone use the avid x 6’9 mlxf for jerk baits or even 1/8 rooster tails? i know a lot people use this rod for dropshots and things like that. The lure rate for this rod is 1/8 to 1/2. Thanks for any info
  3. I have recently purchased a avid x and revo x spinning rod and reel. the rod is a 6’9 ml extra fast action I believe the revo x is a size 30. Was wondering if the reel will be to big for this rod? Thanks for any info!
  4. Ok I’m tired of crap gear and so I’ve decided to spend the money to finally get something decent and dependable. After much research I’ve decided to get the Shimano Stradic Ci4+ 3000 FB and I’m trying to decide on a rod to pair it with. I’m looking at the St. Croix Avid X Spinning Rod (AXS70MF). My only decision is which model of the Avid X to get? Their site lists several, but I’m partial to the 7ft models. They have medium/fast, medium light/fast and medium heavy/fast. I also want a single piece rod. Anyone have any experience with these Avid X rods? Just looking for some advice on which one to pair with the Stradic.
  5. Ok, it probably isn't going to be my last rod. However I am a kayak fisherman and I really want to limit the rods I take to 6. Any more just gets to be too much to juggle. Here is what I have now: Casting: St. Croix Avid X 7'4" HF St. Croix Avid X 6'8" MXF Megabass Orochi XX EMTF 7'5" MHF Cashion 7'MMF Cranking rod Spinning: St. Croix Avid X 6'8" MXF (Wish I had of gotten MLXF. Anyone want to trade?:) So Im thinking of adding something around 7'-7'2" in MH and moderate-fast for spinnerbaits and medium cranks. But I want to make sure i have the versatility I need to cover anything during tournaments. Given what I already have, would you suggest something else? Im trying to stay in the $150-$220 range. Thanks!
  6. Purchasing two rods next week 1 spinning 1 casting. I like the feel of the Legend tournament bass rods. Thinking about pulling the trigger on 6'9" MhMF "Sniper Spinnerbait" rated up to 5/8 or 7'MhMF "Sweeper Spinnerbait" rated up to 3/4. Never handled these rods but I'm wanting to use them for 5-6ft squarebills and 1/2oz lipless cranks around grass. Does anyone own these rods if so what do you personally use them for? Also curious about the 6'10 MlXF "Drop shot/ Finesse" spinning rod. Would mostly use for weightless plastics, senkos, and ocassional shakeyhead, or 1/8oz weight. Anyone own this also?
  7. Evening all, I’m looking to buy my first St.Croix and have a question about the Avid X. Which model would you recommend for these baits. Z-Man T.R.D + 1/10 & 1/6 jigheads Gitzit 3.5" Tubes + 1/4 jighead Roboworm Fat Worm 4 1/2" + 3/16 shaky head Rage Tail Baby Craw 3“ + 3/16 jighead ( I prefer spinning) IMO the 6.9ML/XF (1/8-1/2) or 7M/F (3/16-5/8) but not sure about that. Sorry for simple linguistic expression Thanks
