  1. I’ve been looking to get a new worm and jig rod (with maybe the occasional chatterbait or topwater) and I’ve narrowed it down to either the 6’10”MH Zodias or 72MH Zodias or a 7MH Avid. They honestly both seem like very good rods, and I like the makeup of the Zodias a little bit more than the Avid. However, I also like the Avids warranty and the fact that it’s made in the US as well. The lack of hookeeper on the Zodias does not bother me. For those of you who own the rods, what are they like? Are they too stiff to throw 1/4 ounce t rigs? Are they sensitive? Are they versitile or pretty technique specific? If anyone owns both, which do you prefer? Any and all imput is appreciated! Thanks!
  2. Hello, my name is Kurt Paris, I am an 19 year old from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, yes, I am a Yooper, and yes, we do have electricity in the U.P. But all jokes aside, I categorize myself as a graphic design hobbyist, and fishing enthusiast. I enjoy assisting small businesses and individuals with a very price effective way to obtain slick, clean, and professional looking graphics. I am also an outdoor fanatic, where I spend most of my time fishing, hiking, and just enjoying the wonderful place I am honored to call home. Fishing for me dates back years, back to my middle school days when my mom wouldn't let me go fishing alone, and she would come, pitch a chair, and watch me smoke them on a popper. I have always had a special love for fishing, but it wasn't until early 2015 that I decided I wanted it to be more than just a hobby. After befriending a few local tournament anglers, and joining the fishing community on social media, it took very little persuasion for me to want to do it. With the launch of 2017, I will put my goal of fishing professionally into action. Meeting new people, trying new things, and promoting myself as an avid angler as much as possible. I have intentions to create a YouTube channel dedicated to only fishing content, currently run a Twitter where I interact with my followers on a daily basis, and am building my Facebook profile to help me network with others who share the same passion I have for fishing. Through out the year of 2017, I hope to establish a great network of contacts, increase my marketing skills, and work with a few businesses. Being the 19 year old young adult that I am, I strive for success, and I understand that in order to accomplish that level of success, hard work and dedication are required. Time to tie some knots, and get those lines in the water.
  3. Evening all, I’m looking to buy my first St.Croix and have a question about the Avid X. Which model would you recommend for these baits. Z-Man T.R.D + 1/10 & 1/6 jigheads Gitzit 3.5" Tubes + 1/4 jighead Roboworm Fat Worm 4 1/2" + 3/16 shaky head Rage Tail Baby Craw 3“ + 3/16 jighead ( I prefer spinning) IMO the 6.9ML/XF (1/8-1/2) or 7M/F (3/16-5/8) but not sure about that. Sorry for simple linguistic expression Thanks
  4. Hi Everyone, I'm new to forum here. It's a pleasure to be a member here now. I have been bass fishing since I was 12 years old and now I'm 26, so I have about 13 years of experience. I'm just recreational fisherman and not a pro or anything like that, but I'm a passionate about fishing and know what I'm doing. I live in San Franscisco Bay Area, so we have a plethora if species to fish for here in the ponds, creeks, lakes, delta, rivers, bay and ocean. I fish for a lot of different species depending on the time of year and my mood. Some of the species I fish for are trout, bass, catfish, lingcod, rockcod, halibut, stripers, salmon, and sturgeon. Of course there's many more species around here you could fish for, and I do fish for other species other than those that I mentioned, but the species I mentioned are the ones I have most interest in fishing for. Lately, I've been working a lot, and it has been hard to find the time to fish, so I've been keeping it local and catching some bass in the ponds next to where I live. I am writing to you here today because I am ready to upgrade my jig and worm bass rod. I am going to buy either a G. Loomis IMX 6'8" Med Hvy 803C JWR Extra Fast, 12-16lb, 3/16-5/8oz - Jig and Worm series OR I am going to buy a St. Croix Avid Casting Rod 7' Medium Heavy Fast, 12-20lb, 3/8-1oz. I've already done my research. I've looked up all of the threads I could find on this forum and others, but I wanted more information before making this purchase since it will be the most bass expensive rod I will own. I already own a Shimano Crucial and Okuma Helios rod which are about $200 each that I use for flipping, pitching, and punching. However, thoses rods are technique specific, and I want to upgrade my main jig and worm bass rod that I will be using the most. Currently, I'm using a Berkeley Lightning Rod, so either an Avid or IMX would be a big upgrade. From what I found, I think that the Avid AVC70MHXF is the most versatile and is the best bang for your buck, but I don't like that it weighs 4.7 ounces. That's pretty heavy if you ask me for a 7' MH rod because my Okuma 7' 6" Heavy rod weighs only 4.3 ounces. I hear that it's tough and sensitive though, and in a pinch, this is a rod I could also use for halibut, stripers, lingcod, and rockcod throwing swimbaits from the shore. The reason why I want the IMX 803C JWR is because G Loomis is considered the best of the best. The original IMX Rods were the Series that put G. Loomis on the map as the leader in graphite technology. G Loomis has a mystical feel to it; the brand has a certain allure that I cannot explain. Although I don't think 803 JWR will be as versatile, I know that the quality would probably be better. The rod would probably be lighter and more sensitive. Both rods have lifetime warranties. The main difference is in the quality and price. Is the G Loomis IMX worth the extra $100 to upgrade from a St. Croix Avid? I'd love to hear your opinions especially if you own or have fished with both. Thanks, The Pond King
  5. Hey bassresource users. So, my St. Croix premier snapped in half while trying to free a snag. /: I've Been looking on St. Croix website and seen their gold star upgrade plan. I'm looking for a spinning rod to fish soft plastics and small football jigs nothing bigger than 1/2oz.. I'll mainly be using T-Rig and drop-Shot techniques.. Maybe some weightless flukes/super flukes The Avid series caught my attention. Now I need help choosing the best model for it.. I prefer a rod at least 6'6 and nothing over 7'. Which do you guys recommend? Also, how do the original Avids compare to the Avid X in terms of feel and sensitivity. Thanks For your help. Hopefully I can choose soon because I just sent out my premier to the repair center today.
  6. I've been debating picking up a new jerkbait rod for this season. I already own 4 Avid casting rods, and I'm pretty fond of them. I was debating stepping up and getting the 6'8" LTB rod for my jerkbait needs. Having already known how great the Avids are, I figure the LTB has to be even nicer, since it is the next step up in the St. Croix lineup. So last night I went to my local shop and compared the 6'8" LTB and a 6'6" Avid, both in a medium power, fast action. To my surprise, the Avid felt better balanced (with no reel mounted) than the LTB did. Is the blank heavier on the LTB, or could this be because the LTB uses split grips rather than the full cork that the Avid uses? I also felt like the reel seat was much more comfortable as well on the Avid, but maybe this is just because I'm already used to the Avids reel seat? The locking nut on the LTB is definitely different than the Avid. Anyways, I was looking to see if anyone has any experience with either or both of these rods and could give their opinion. The LTB is $50-60 more, which I have no problem spending if its worth it, but from what I could feel in the store, the Avid felt better. Because of the nature of how you work a jerkbait, having a slightly tip heavy rod isn't so bad. I guess I'm just torn between which of the two I should get
  7. Whats everyone's thoughts on the St. Croix Avid X rods? Has anyone used one? Seems the same as the Avid's, but with a new paint job, different guides and and a split handle. I'd like to get some opinions. I'm looking for a another MH rod for the arsenal.
