  1. Hey all, I’m located out in the far west-end if Henrico County in central Virginia and am getting sick of seeing “no fishing” and “residences and their guests only” posted at what seems like virtually every pond/lake I’ve found on google. I understand this area is well developed but not too familiar with the waters around the area and am trying to get into fishing with the quarantine and this free time but it’s super discouraging not being able to properly fish. I’m aware of public parks like Crump and Deep Run Park but they’re so flooded with other fishers that regardless of worms, jigs, and other baits I can’t even get nibbles. Anyone out there with some advice on less populated/visited ponds/lakes within about a 25 mile radius or so of the Short Pump area? I’m currently restrained to bank fishing only but have been getting closer and closer to buying a kayak since I’m seeing them on sale closer to $150-175 but don’t want to purchase if not necessary/no place to use it. I’m willing to travel probably 30-45 minutes, maybe further if the fishing is good. I’m not looking for an absolute gold mine but I’ve resorted to walking wider creeks cause I can’t find places with public access. I’ve only ever caught Bass and catfish but would love to expand past to other fish as well but have zero knowledge on any of that or friends with knowledge on them either.
  2. I bank fish ponds a lot. And I have been wanting to try jigs, but literally have no idea where to start. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
  3. hello all, i live in CA, never before did a bass fishing , and would like to learn, practice, and participate in my first amateur tournament. can you please recommend the first steps in terms of which club membership i need, any classes, practical training you recommend, how to enroll into a tournament? any other useful information that you could share that will help a novice fisherman like myself -- will be much appreciated! thanks a lot!
  4. Hello all, Amateur fisher here. Just starting out and very excited about getting out there! I currently live in Richmond, Virginia, specifically the Short pump area. I do not own a boat so I am assuming my fishing will be limited to shoreline for the time being. I love being out on the water and WILL own a boat in the future, but it's not quite in the cards right now. Anyway, got family coming into town this weekend and we want to get out there and start fishing. I have read a lot about all the lakes at Innsbrook and looked at the VA DGIF website for the list of lakes and parks. All good information there but wanted to get some opinions from people that have actually fished these spots. Any information like the best times to go (i.e., really early in the am, mid morning, etc..), best spots around the lakes, suggestions for different places, suggestions for equipment on small lakes/ponds etc. Thanks in advance for any of your help! I look forward to becoming an active member on this site and posting experiences, and pictures! -Bryan
