  1. Hello, I was simply curious about the specific differences between these two P5 rods. I'm trying to decide between the two as my jig and Texas-rigged soft plastics. For anyone who has it, what would you say is the ACTUAL lure weight range in which each of these rods excels (if you could please say the total weight, i.e., jig + trailer, etc...). I am also planning to purchase a P5 Bait Finesse and a P5 Windbuster, so the baits that this can cover may also have to be taken into account. I plan on using the BF for all around finesse plastics and finesse jigs, the WB for drop-shot/free rig/small jerks and small cranks/light topwater, and the TS or X-Bites for jigs/Texas-rig soft plastics. I will say that I plan on fishing cover, shallow water, docks (skipping*** and pitching***). Lastly, I do everything other than punching, throwing large swimbaits or glide baits, and heavy top-water (mainly finesse plastics, fb/compact/finesse jigs and other bottom-contact like drop-shot and T-rig). Will these 3 rods cover all those techniques? Thank you in advance, I apologize for asking so many questions. I tried to be as concise as possible, but I have been looking for answers to these questions without much success.
  2. Hello, I just had some questions about these two P5 rods. For anyone who has either of them, what would you say is the ACTUAL lure weight range in which each of these rods excels (if you could please say the total weight, i.e., bait + hook/weight). I plan on using the BF for all around finesse plastics and finesse jigs, and the WB for drop-shot/free rig/small jerks and small cranks/light topwater. Lastly, I do everything other than punching, throwing large swimbaits or glide baits, and heavy top-water (mainly finesse plastics, fb/compact/finesse jigs and other bottom-contact like drop-shot and T-rig). Will these 2 rods, plus a Tachyon Shaft cover all those techniques? Thank you in advance. I appreciate any and all of your information.
  3. Recently had a mishap with a megabass Destroyer and warranty issues are making me want to stop doing business with them entirely. Wondering for a replacement who'd be the better replacement. A rod from St-croix or Gloomis? Would love to hear everyone's thoughts!
  4. Hey, I guess I've been looking and studying fishing kayaks for too long. I thought I was decided on a model, but now I'm confused. I'm tired of fishing out of a rec kayak. I've narrowed my choices down to these models. Some of them are cheaper than others. I'll be carrying it on top of my car. Which one would you recommend? Old Town Topwater 106 Old Town top water 120 Bonafide RS117 Bonafide SS107 Wilderness Systems Radar 115. Should I buy cheaper and get it better equipped or the other way around? Thx.
  5. All of my reels are Shimano’s, so naturally, I was excited when the 2020 Metanium came out. I have a couple of Bantams and I love them. The Metanium looked like a smaller, lighter Bantam. I have not found the new Metanium to be as long casting or forgiving as the old Metaniums I had. Has anyone else had this experience? I always use 2 brakes on, 2 off and side brake to 1 or 2. On the new Metaniums, I can’t seem to do that. I have to tinker with the tension to keep it from backlashing and casting distance is diminished.
  6. If you had to choose a single technique to use all year in clear, inland lakes in Michigan, what would it be (Largemouth primarily)? I ask because I am familiar with dozens of techniques, but not a "master" at any and I want to prioritize my learning. Thanks in advance for your advice.
  7. So I mainly fish a very heavily pressured lake and just want some tips and tricks to catch a nice fish on a pressured area. It won't take much, my PB is only 3 3/4 Which is really embarrassing considering how much I fish.... Thanks!!
  8. This is gonna be a lot, but i appreciate any advise/help that is given. Originally on my boat i had a Lowrance HDS 7 Gen 2 touch at the console, and at the front i didn't have anything. Well, Cabelas/BPS recently had a sale on 9" Elite Ti units that came with a Totalscan transducer, and a navionics chip. So i picked one up and took my boat to the shop to get it installed. So i got it back yesterday, and i'm having some issues. I put the new Elite 9 Ti on the bow, and its hooked up to an HDI transducer at the trolling motor. I left the HDS 7 Gen 2 where it was (Console), and got him to put the Totalscan transducer at the back of the boat. The total scan is hooked up directly to the HDS. I also got him to connect both units via NMEA 2000 Network cable. Now to the issues/questions, 1. When i go to sonar, or structure on the HDS it doesn't register the depth and the sonar screen and the structure screen are blank. I went to Settings>Sonar>Installation and tried to set the transducer to Totalscan but Totalscan isn's in the list. I thought this may be due to connection issue with the cable, but then i saw where it was registering the water temp so the transducer is fine and is connected fine. Any ideas here? 2. Is there a way to view Structure Scan from the Totalscan transducer on the Elite Ti? The Totalscan transducer isn't directly connected to the Elite Ti, but that is why i got the network. I thought it would make everything connect. Anybody know if this is possible? 3. Last question, The Elite 9 Ti came with a navionics chip (Navionics US/CAN+). I put it in my HDS because that's where i will be using it mostly. But i saw online last night that you would only need 1 chip for both units. Is this true? If so how do i do this? i tried changing the source on my Elite 9 Ti to Navionics, but it didn't work. (Chip is in HDS) I know this is alot, but i'm kinda lost right now and would love some advise. I paid a good chunk for the depth finder + Install. I would hate to have to spend more. Thanks to all who reply. I really appreciate it!
  9. I have gotten into off shore fishing this summer (mainly deep diving crankbaits). I want to try fishing bigger worms on heavier shakey heads. I am getting ready to order some 9 inch T-Macs and 1/2 stand up jigs for starters. Anyone had success/advice with this technique?
  10. I currently am using a G. Loomis IMX PRO 906CBR for deep diving crank baits (up to 1 ounce). My limit is the 1.25 ounce Spro Super DD and Berkley Dredger 25.5. It works great, but I would like to get longer casts. Does anyone have a Dobyns Champion XP Cranking Rod 8' MH 805 that you use to throw 6XD's, Spro DD's, etc. I have never had a Dobyns rod, but this one seems to meet the specs very well for what I want to use it for. I would love to hear your thoughts.
  11. Hey guys, I recently purchased a bunch of land with a 3/4 acre pond. I have fished in several times and usually catch bluegill, and bass. The largest I have caught was about a 1 lb Largemouth. I am no expert fisherman by any means and just today discovered Senkos. My birthday is around the corner and my wife keeps asking me what I want. I am looking at a Pfleuger President XT 30 reel on a St. Croix Bass X BXS71MF rod. Is this a good combo? My buddy who is a very experienced fisherman came out and fished for a while and caught about 8 1-2 lb bass in about a 1.5 hour time frame. He was saying that more than likely the pond is stunted and the best practice is to throw the lb and less bass on the bank. Is this a good practice and do you think it will promote bigger bass in the future? Thanks for taking the time to read this and helping me out! Tyler
  12. I do not know much about how fish react to storms and low pressure systems...so here I am to learn! Please feel free to share any experiences, good times, bad times, or lessons learned when fishing before, during, and after storms! All advice and tips are appreciated! Stay safe, and tight lines!
  13. I fish a private pond that is, at most, about 6 feet deep. I usually bank fish it as it is quite a small pond. The other day my buddy and I got out on a small paddle boat and fished around the pond. The problem we seemed to have was that there is a very thick, slimy grass covering the bottom and the bass seem to sit above it waiting for salamanders to surface. I forgot to mention that this pond has a very high population of salamanders. We caught a few and hooked them by the bottom lip and fished them under a bobber and that seemed to work. The bass are just not very aggressive yet and a lot of times would only bite the tail off of the salamander. I have tried slow, finesse presentations but with the bass hovering over this thick grass, all that does is get my jigs and bottom baits covered in grass. I tried slow rolling spinner baits and we caught 1 on a small inline spinner but that was all. I need a way to stay out of the grass but be able to fish these largemouth slowly. Tips and advice are greatly appreciated and tight lines to everybody!
  14. So I have a 17ft aluminum boat similar to a tracker with a 60hp engine. My old man has a Fiberglas boat with a 115hp. He's pushing for me to get a 9.9 on my boat to fish all the 9.9 lakes around. I might be willing to do it but if I do I need to know a few things first. I currently use a 86 merc with a steering system. Anything I buy I want to use with a steering system. So If buy a merc 9.9 will the cables work? Anybody know what the options are at getting a 9.9 to work with my system?
