  1. Alright. I mainly wanted to ask why do my reels make a audible noise upon retrieve with a somewhat rough feeling coming from the gears. All my reels seem to have this issue. My Johnny Morris Carbonlite 2.0 ( bought 6 months ago ), my lews mach II( bought a year ago, so I can kinda understand, but it also started this noise issue a couple months after owning it) and my recently acquired *** *** reel. I know that these 3 reels aren't super high end, but I expected all of them to not acquire almost the exact same noise/feeling in such short periods after owning them. I know I don't take the best care of my reels either, but I do keep them in my room, and have cleaned them. I can almost pinpoint the noise too. It always feels like it is coming from right where the pinion gear meets the spool bearing/main gear. I wouldn't worry about them making the noise if I couldn't feel the vibration going into the rods blank, just feels like it messes with me. Just wondering if there was a way to quiet it down a notch, or if I am stuck with the noise due to it being lower end reels.
  2. I have been looking into buying another bait caster this will be my 3rd, the first one was kind of a pos so I will not include that one. I am looking at buying a daiwa tatula ct 6:3:1 gear ratio and a st croix bass mojo. I don't know if I should get medium or medium heavy, and fast action or mod fast. I am decently new to bass fishing. This rod will be more of a general purpose because I only have 1 other combo. The combo that I own is a Abu Garcia orra sx 7:1:1 with the abu garcia vendetta medium heavy fast action that I mostly throw spinner baits and swim jigs on.
  3. Edit: See post #22 for my detailed review I just ordered myself a new Stradic 3000, and naturally, I need a rod to go with it. I'll be using this rod for throwing light lures that I can't quite handle on my baitcasting setup; small squarebills, small shad raps, small jerkbaits, you get the idea. My price range is in the $100-200 range and I have owned/used most rods in that range (Crucial, Premier, Avid, Savy, E6X, Veritas, Veracity, HMG). Some of these same rods are currently up for consideration as well, however I am also looking at the new Abu Ike Series rods, which sit at around $130 retail. I know these rods are fairly new, and none of my local stores carry them, so I wanted to see if anyone here has held/used one? What are your opinions on them? The blank is a 36 ton graphite blank, just like the Veracity, which I really enjoy and own 2 of already. They've got a Fuji reel seat, which I also like and am used to on many of my other rods. Both features of which are a nice piece of mind, but I'd just like to know some personal opinions before I go dropping any money. Hopefully some of you guys can help me out. Thanks.
  4. I have a 7' MH Abu Garcia Veritas 1.0 that I really like and I'm going to get 2 more rods before tournaments start in August. I am in high school so I don't have a ton of money to spend. What are some good rods I can get for a reasonable price? Nothing over $100
  5. Anybody ever use an Abu Garcia Cardinal I am wondering if they are any good
  6. I like to give credit where credit is due. Plano: Sent a plastic lid replacement to my tackle box that I broke(I told them that) to me free of charge(offered to pay). Abu Garcia: Sent me a bale assembly for an old Ike dude reel free of charge. The old one came loose and I lost the wire bale. I was just calling them to ask if any other reel parts were compatible and they hooked me up, 3 days later the reel is fixed Good companies stand behind their products!
  7. Hey Bassresource. Is there anybody who owned or used these two rods? I need help choosing my next reaction bait Rod. I'm looking at the Abu Garcia Veritas and the Abu Garcia Villain. I can get either one for under $100. Which is the better choice? I hear a lot of bad reviews of the villain but it was originally priced at $180. Is it better than the veritas? I Own the veritas in 7' MH/f and really like it for reaction baits. The guides aren't the straightest and has blobs of epoxy glue all over but it's done the job well and is more sensitive than my St Croix Premier.
  8. What is up with companies not having a left handed model in every gear ratio?! So far, besides the Orra Winch, I can't find a reel with a lower gear ratio in a left handed model
  9. Im looking to buy a new Abu Garcia reel and I am set between the Revo MGX or the Revo Rocket. I realize the Rocket is a faster reel and 50 dollars less but other than that are there any differences between the two. -BeenReel
  10. I am thinking about upgrading from the Abu Garcia Revo SX to the Revo Rocket. I realize the gear ratio is much faster but is it worth the $300?
  11. Looking to buy another casting rod. Im going to be putting an Abu Gacria reel on it (Most likely a Revo). I already own 2 veritas casting rods but was told the Mojo is something to check out. Any opinions on either rods? -BeenReel
  12. This summer I fished the wacky rig almost exclusivley and had a blast. We caught bass using 5'6" Ike the Dude Combo, 6'6" St Croix Triumph and 7' MH Vendetta. I liked using the smaller rods more so. I want to now purchase a nice rod/reel combo that is light and fun to fish with; reel less than 8.0 OZ. A nice setup to me is around $200-$250 total. I was considering the following three rods; I do like Abu Garcia and Saint Croix products, the reels I have used are Abu Garcia, Pfleuger Priesident(really like) and cheaper Lew's reel which I like but is on the heaver side. Any suggestings for a Wacky Rigging setup would be great. Abu Garcia Veritas Spinning Rod; 6'9", Medium-Light Extra Fast $79.99 St. Croix Mojo 6'8" M-Power Extra Fast $109.99 St. Croix Rage Spinning Rod, RS68MXF $149.99
  13. Hi Guys! I just recently saved up the money to buy a decent combo (200ish) and I was wondering a few things. Revo SX vs. Lew's Speed Spool - Both 6:4:1 After picking the reel would you rather have a Mojo Bass 7ft MH or a Veritas 7ft MH, or your choice around 100 Is Lew's Discountiuing the Speed Spool because of new product in its place? If you have any of these combos for sale send me a PM! Thanks Guys! Brennan New to the site and sorry if I went against any of the community culture on anything
  14. I have been buying and trying a couple different reels, like the Lew's Tournament MG and the Daiwa Tatula. To be completely honest i was not that impressed with the casting distance of the Tatula (given i was in my yard, with both reels) It seems like i could bomb a half oz. jig with half the effort with my Tournament MG on half breaks, whereas i had the Tatula on almost freespool! (2). So what i'm getting at, is I'm trying to find reels in the $100-$150 price range. My first reel, a while back was a Blackmax, it can cast really far, but it seemed very finicky and picky for me. So i have been eyeing up the SX, mostly because of the deeper capacity than a Lew's Tournament and I'm pretty sure it can cast well and far. I would just stick with tournament mg's but it seems like everyone on here thinks the regular Tourny's are much better, by looking at the specs, I can't find too much of a difference except it has a wiffle/smaller capacity spool, dual cast adjustment, looks a little different, and i think that's about it. Sorry I'm kind of rambling. Something about Abu and their reels really gets me. I constantly eye them up, but never pull the trigger. Probably half my problem is when i read reviews on Tackletour, it's like every reel but Daiwa and Shimano is bad... (except Lew's.) The quality of Lew's is great. I just want to try something else. I heard the gen. 2 SX reels were better, but I'm looking at gen. 3. So what do you guys think of the new generation SX, and think i should do? The S could possibly be an option, but i'd probably rather by an Orra SX for that matter. Thanks. I appreciate it, if you bared with me during that post, haha!
  15. Once these Duckett Ghost rods come out, I'm looking for a few options to try on these rods. There is something about Abu that really draws me to their products, but I never really bought them. I have last generations Quantum Accurist, which I like a good bit. It's almost like you have to be an idiot to get a backlash with it. So yeah seeing which one you would prefer, I already know how good Lew's are, so I'm leaving them out of this topic. So the Quantum Catalyst, Abu S/SX. Although I was thinking is the Abu S much different in quality and casting distance as the new Orra SX? Sorry for some questions that may seem kind of repetitive on other posts, I just like to have a lot of opinions. I'm constantly thinking of my options and what I want to do next, it's almost unhealthy! Thanks
  16. So has anyone tried one of these reels out yet?! They've been out for a little while, they seem pretty appealing to me, but I can't find anyone who has used one or posted a review on one. If you used one, can it cast lightweight cranks well (1/4oz.)? Also tell me what you like and dislike about it. What other reels for cranking do you think are better (in the price range, other than the BB1, lol)? Thanks
  17. I'm looking for a new spinnerbait and shallow diving crankbait rod. Which would you recommend $120-$170. This will be paired with the new Lews BB-1 or Tournament pro.
  18. Shore fishing last fall and I pulled in a Berkley Lightning Rod and an Abu Silver Maxx... I know nothing about baitcasting reels and was wondering if this was able to be saved? Most of the internals look to be rust free, the only rust i see are on the drag magnets?
